Mecum Auctions is always pushing the envelope in the auction world and the company is doing it again this May 2-3 with the world’s first SuperYacht auction to be held in South Beach, Fla. By bringing an entirely new business model to the yachting industry, Mecum’s Yacht Auctions will allow brokers the opportunity to utilize the auction platform to instill a sense of urgency in their sales, cutting time from the equation while maintaining commission earnings. A promising lineup for the May auction includes more than 20 yachts in total, seven of which fall into the
SuperYacht category of boats larger than 75 feet.
Mecum Auctions has a strong 27-year history of success in the auction world selling classic and collector vehicles, many worth millions. The auction house will now bring its record of success to the yachting world. And buying a yacht has never been easier than it is at a Mecum Yacht Auction. With a minimum 10-day inspection period and the option for advanced sea trials, purchasing a yacht is as simple as raising a hand come sale time. With the drop of the gavel, the yacht will change hands and the high bidder will emerge as the new owner. Among the grand selection to be offered in South Beach are a Delta 124, a 130-foot Hatteras, a 98 Destiny, 105 Custom yacht, an 86-foot Amer, and other other desirable yachts ranging in size from 45 to 75 feet. Detailed descriptions of select lots are included below.
All SuperYachts and yachts will have a general overview survey performed and available to bidders prior to the auction. Interested bidders can also arrange to have their own surveyors inspect a yacht prior to the auction. Bidders need not be present at the sale. Bids can be placed via phone or online. Financing is available via Essex Credit. To register to bid visit MecumYachtAuctions.com. For more information, visit the website or call 1-855-66-MECUM (1-855-666-3286).
Delta 124
This completely custom, one-of-kind, 124-foot yacht is an excellent example of the Delta Marine shipyard’s construction technology, craftsmanship and proven naval architecture. Powered by twin 1,450-hp Detroit Diesel 16V92T engines that give it a top speed of 17 knots and a cruising speed of 15 knots, it is a sea-kindly, go-anywhere vessel. Its range at an economical 10-knot speed is 2,300 nautical miles, consuming just 40 gallons per hour. The Pavlik Design Group created the 124-foot Delta’s airy interior décor, which has a relaxed, beach house ambiance, filled with warm, light woods and fine stonework. Large windows bring in light and views of the surrounding sea. There are spacious accommodations for eight guests in four staterooms on board. The master suite is located on the lower deck, amidships; the most comfortable spot on the yacht for sleeping in all sea conditions. It features a king berth and en-suite marble his-and-hers heads with a Jacuzzi tub and shower. There are two mirror-image queen staterooms with en-suite marble heads lie aft. A VIP stateroom with en-suite marble head is located forward on the main deck. The Delta also offers roomy accommodations for six crew. The yacht’s tri-deck design, which encompasses a bridge deck with sky lounge topped by a sun deck area, large main and lower decks, offers multiple exterior spaces for entertaining, sunbathing, and enjoying a long soak in the six-person bridge-deck Jacuzzi. Launched by Delta in 1998, this classic motoryacht has been meticulously maintained by a professional crew. Its soft goods, entertainment systems and equipment have been updated by continuous refits and refurbishments over the past seven years.
Hatteras
One of the largest yachts to launch from the famous North Carolina shipyard of Hatteras, is this 130-foot, semi-displacement Hatteras Tri-Deck Motor Yacht. Built in 1995 to ABS standards, this spacious SuperYacht features a classic interior by noted designer Dee Robinson. The yachts interior configuration has been designed to comfortably accommodate up to 10 guests overnight in five cabins, comprising a master suite, two double cabins and two twin cabins, while also capable of carrying up to seven crew onboard in four cabins to ensure a relaxed luxury yacht experience. Powered by two Detroit Diesel (16V149) 2,446hp engines and set in motion by twin screw propellers, Motor yacht Charisma is capable of a top speed of 24 knots, and comfortably cruises at 18-plus knots.
Destiny 98
This 98-foot semi-displacement motoryacht is “best in class” when it comes to interior and exterior volume. Styled by well-known SuperYacht designer Evan Marshall, the vessel’s elegant interior is characterized by comfortable, overstuffed furniture, fine stonework and high-gloss woods. Eight guests are accommodated in four luxurious suites, including a main-deck master and lower-deck VIP – both with king berths – plus queen and twin staterooms. A 2012 refit updated the soft goods throughout the yacht. Equipped with twin 16V2000 MTU diesel engines, the vessel offers a top speed of 23 knots and a cruising speed of 21 knots. This Destiny 98 had only one owner, who spared no expense to maintain the vessel in top condition.

This past weekend’s Gone Farmin’ Tractor Spring Classic hosted by Mecum Auctions saw more than 200 vintage tractors and 350 signs and farm relics cross the auction block at the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds in Davenport, Iowa. The auction house’s highest tractor sell-through rate to date was reached with 88 percent hammering sold. Total sales for the auction broke the $2 million mark for the first time in the division’s four-year history.
The top 10 sales list was led by a thoroughly restored and mostly original 1913 Bull Tractor Co. Little Bull 5-12 (Lot S50) that hammered at $81,000. Before being offered at auction, the tractor was purchased from a museum in Billings, Mont., after 20 years of searching by a family wishing to own one just like their grandfather’s. Another fully vintage find, a 1919 Waterloo Boy N (Lot S54) took the second seat selling at $80,000. This still-functioning original tractor was purchased from its second owner in 2013, the first having owned it until 1979. Serial number 16705, this tractor is one of an extremely few original surviving tractors of this age at almost 100 years old.
Other significant sales include several from the Steve Sickafoose Collection, all of which were offered with no reserve. Two of the six tractors in the Sickafoose lineup made the top 10 with a 1971 Farmall 1456 MFWA (Lot S69) hammering at $55,000 and his 1972 Farmall 1468 (Lot S68) demanding $42,000.
The complete top 10 sales list includes (all sales reflect hammer prices):
1. 1913 Bull Tractor Co. Little Bull 5-12 (Lot S50) at $81,000
2. 1919 Waterloo Boy N (Lot S54) at $80,000
3. 1971 Farmall 1456 MFWA (Lot S69) at $55,000
4. 1924 John Deere D (Lot S31) at $46,000

6. 1972 John Deere 4000 Diesel Power Shift (Lot S44) at $36,500
7. 1961 John Deere 4010 Diesel Hi-Crop (Lot S45) at $28,000
8. 1972 John Deere 4000 Gas (Lot S61) at $27,500
9. 1971 John Deere 4020 Powershift (Lot F34) at $27,000

Houston, we have an auction. Mecum Auctions will launch its third-annual sale at Houston’s Reliant Center this April 10-12 with a 1,000-car offering encompassing coveted collector cars from all genres. Among the outstanding headliners ranging from American and European racers, to Pre-War Classics and Corvettes, Mecum will also offer two collector rides formerly owned by the first two U.S. Astronauts ever to travel to space, Alan Shepard and Gus Grissom.
Mercury Astronaut Rear Admiral Alan Shepard was the first American in outer space and the only person to hit a golf ball on the moon. His legacy is cemented in the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame and in several statues and monuments around the United States. Shepard always had an appreciation for nice cars, driving various Corvettes from the late ‘50s on through the ‘70s. Shepard’s commitment to Chevy was solid, but in the mid ‘90s he steered away from the Corvette, and instead purchased a 1995 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 Convertible (Lot F59) with leather interior and the LT1 engine as part of the Z28 package. Shepard’s Z28 will return to Space City this April offered with documentation to prove Shepard’s ownership as well as the original window sticker, license receipts, license plate, and a photo of Shepard with the blue Z28.
Just months before Lieutenant Colonel Virgil Ivan “Gus” Grissom’s life was tragically cut short in the catastrophe of Apollo 1, he purchased a brand-new 1967 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible (Lot S120.1). The car that Grissom barely had time to enjoy has since been fully restored and has participated in several parades at Cape Kennedy where it hosted former astronauts along with the President of the United States. The subject of wide magazine coverage and winner of more than 25 trophies and awards, this Corvette has also earned NCRS Top Flight honors. Extensively documented, the Gus Grissom Corvette is more than a highly desirable collector car; it is a precious artifact from a remarkable era in 20th century American history, now set to make its way back to the city where it all took place.
The Houston auction will be aired in nearly 80 million homes with portions of all three days of the event broadcast on the NBC Sports and Esquire networks. Visit Mecum.com for a complete list of consignments updated daily with photos and descriptions of each vehicle. For more details on the Houston auction, to consign a vehicle or to register as a bidder, visit Mecum.com or call (262) 275-5050.
Mecum will also present the MidAmerica vintage motorcycle auction immediately following the classic and collector car auction on Sunday, April 13, also at the Reliant Center. The motorcycle offering will include more than 200 vintage and collector bikes.
