SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Jan. 18, 2010 – The 39th Annual Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction in Scottsdale officially kicks off today, with gates opening at 8 a.m. for Ford Family Value Day benefiting Cox Charities. The renowned automotive lifestyle event runs through Sunday, Jan. 24, with cars beginning to cross the block the afternoon of Tuesday, Jan. 19. Barrett-Jackson has welcomed more than 200,000 visitors to the Scottsdale event each of the last two years, and has an impressive slate of collector cars and lifestyle activities to enjoy this week. For those not able to attend, SPEED will provide nearly 40 hours of live, high-definition TV coverage of the auction.

Scottsdale Mayor, W. J. Lane, has officially declared Jan. 18 – 24 “Barrett-Jackson Week” in honor of the tremendous impact the event has on the local community. To celebrate, the company has planned a series of public events in Scottsdale surrounding the auction that included the first Scottsdale Road Rally and Cruise-In that took place Saturday, Jan. 16; and has expanded the on-site activities to include increased numbers of ride and drives, designer fashion shows, culinary demonstrations, nightlife activities and much more in addition to the hundreds of vendors and sponsors on display.
“Our Scottsdale Auction is the largest and longest running auction of our four locations, so we have an event schedule that’s at full capacity to celebrate,” said Craig Jackson, CEO/Chairman of Barrett-Jackson. “There is absolutely something for everyone, and this year in particular, we’ve added some unique offerings including special appearances, educational seminars, health screenings and some amazing parties at The Stone Rose Garage, our special hangout and music lounge right in the middle of all the action.”
In Barrett-Jackson tradition, charity cars will be also be a focus with some modern Detroit muscle. Highlighting a long list of charity vehicles is the Richard Petty 2009 Dodge Challenger to benefit the Petty Family Foundation (Lot #1277); WD-40/SEMA Cares 2010 Chevrolet Camaro to benefit Childhelp and Victory Junction Camp (Lot #962); original BF Goodrich/Hurst 2010 Ford Mustang Pace Car to benefit Victory Junction Camp (Lot #701.2); and a 2008 SPX FORD MUSTANG FR500S to benefit St. Jude Children’s Hospital (Lot #1027).
“Just like the first Barrett-Jackson auction 39 years ago, premium collector cars will be the nucleus of our 2010 Scottsdale event,” said Steve Davis, president of Barrett-Jackson. “In addition to the top tier collector cars like the pair of small block Cobras and the Dillinger Get-A-Way car, we’ll offer a broad range of vehicles for all levels of collectors. This is a format we implemented a couple of years ago and continue to apply as new participants join the hobby at Barrett-Jackson.”
