Rise And Shine For The Mecum Daytime Auction In Monterey

Mecum Auctions will revisit Monterey, Calif., to host its fifth annual Daytime Auction near the shores of the bay at the Hyatt Regency Monterey Hotel and Spa this Aug. 15-17. With 750 of some of the world’s most coveted collector cars lining the manicured greens of the Del Monte Golf Course, this year’s incredible lineup will draw an unrivaled crowd of car enthusiasts from around the globe. Year after year, Mecum’s Daytime Auction continues to feature highly sought-after and historically significant vehicles including pre-war classics and ‘50s era cars, vintage racers, high-performance muscle, Corvettes, European sports and exotics and much more.

The 2013 consignments are certainly measuring up to the auction’s high standard with several celebrated autos already adorning the list like the 1955 Porsche 550/1500 RS Spyder (Lot S177), Chassis No. 550-0077, which was first seen by the public in 1956 as the Brussels Salon Auto Show Car and is now being offered for the first time in a quarter century from the Peter and Cheryl Dunkel Collection. The rare four-cam race car serves to headline the auction’s incredible array of collectible Porsches. Other historically significant race cars set to cross the block in Monterey include the well-documented 1964 Shelby 289 Independent Competition Cobra CSX2487 (Lot S145) and the 1984 Lotus Type 95T John Player Special (Lot S138) driven by Nigel Mansell. Worlds apart and hailing from the Brass Era is a 1909 Locomobile Model 40 Type L Toy Tonneau (Lot S135) that received Best in Class Honors at the 2010 Meadow Brook Concours. The extensive list of consignments includes these and everything in between and continues to accumulate more each day.

Auction gates open daily at 8 a.m. and with such a variety to offer, displayed across the sprawling, open grounds of the Del Monte Golf Course, Mecum welcomes everyone to attend and extends complimentary general admission to all. Eighteen hours of the Monterey auction will be broadcast live on Discovery’s Velocity Network in addition to the live stream presented from gavel to gavel on Mecum’s website at www.mecum.com. Mecum’s website is updated daily with the latest consignments including detailed descriptions and photographs of the vehicles.
