Multi-Million Dollar Championship Race Car on Display at Iowa State Fairgrounds

America’s Crown Jewel of racing – the 1965 Shelby Daytona Cobra Coupe CSX2601 – will be on display at the Iowa State Fairgrounds for the annual Mecum Des Moines Auction, taking place July 17-18, 2009.

The championship Daytona Coupe reached a high bid of $7.5 million at Mecum’s Original Spring Classic Auction in May. Bidders will have a chance again to own a piece of race history when the car crosses the auction block at Mecum’s upcoming Monterey Auction.

A truly significant slice of American race history, the Daytona Cobra Coupe was one of six cars built by Carroll Shelby to compete against the dominating Ferraris in the F.I.A. (Federation https://premier-pharmacy.com/product-category/other/ Internationale de l’Automobile) World Manufacturers Championship GT race class. After competing at Daytona, Monza, Spa, Nurburgring and LeMans, the car beat Ferrari on July 4, 1965, at Reims, France, clinching the 1965 World Manufacturers Championship for the United States and Shelby American.

Mecum will auction more than 400 collector cars during its Des Moines event, which will take place in the air-conditioned Varied Industries Building at the fairgrounds. The event is open to the general public, with tickets available at the door for $10; children 12 and under are free. To view a complete list of vehicles that will be auctioned, visit www.Mecum.com.
