Mecum to Auction 1934 Chevrolet Street Rod for The Kenny Irwin Jr. Foundation, Dare To Dream Camp

Mecum will auction former NASCAR driver Kenny Irwin Jr.'s personal project vehicle, a 1934 Chevrolet
Street Rod (Lot F206), at the upcoming Original Spring Classic Auction, May 19-23 at the Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis, Ind.

The cleanly rendered Street Rod, boasting a 502/505 HP big block crate engine and a floor-shifted Turbo Hydra-Matic transmission, was an ongoing project of Irwin Jr., who was fatally injured in a crash on July 7, 2000, at New Hampshire Speedway. His father, Kenny Irwin Sr., finished the project according to the original plans in honor of his son. Featuring a Canary Yellow paint scheme with Beige leather interior, the Street Rod has clocked just 300 miles since being built.

Proceeds from the sale will benefit the Kenny Irwin Jr. Foundation and its Dare to Dream Camp - a 40-acre site in Indiana where more than 1,000 underprivileged children are mentored each year. Children age five to 17 attend the camp for activities that help them mentally, physically and emotionally, including swimming, fishing, arts and crafts, nature walks, bonfires, performing arts and more.

The purchaser of this Street Rod, which will cross the auction block Friday, May 21, around 6:10 p.m., will write a check directly to the Foundation and receive a receipt for tax deduction.

"Our main goal at the foundation is to serve at-risk children from across the country, regardless of their ability to pay," said Mike Hudgins, chairman of the Kenny Irwin Jr. Foundation. "As a fellow Midwest company, we have been familiar with Mecum Auctions and the dealership owned by Dana Mecum's father, Eddie, for many years. We are very proud to work with the Mecum team to auction this special vehicle and raise money for a wonderful cause that honors Kenny Irwin Jr.'s memory."
