Mecum Announces The Jim Parkinson Collection at the Monterey Auction
Mecum Auctions announces it will offer the Jim Parkinson Collection at their annual Monterey Auction, Aug. 13-14, 2010, at the Hyatt Regency Monterey Hotel & Spa on the Del Monte Golf Course.
Parkinson began his automotive career in 1954 as one of the original MG dealers in Burbank, Calif. During the past 56 years, he has had more than 20 franchises in 12 locations throughout Southern California and is currently operating dealerships in Orange County, Calif., with General Motors and Nissan franchises.
"Jim has a long history on the Monterey Peninsula both as an automotive dealer and a successful amateur racer winning many races in his class during the 1950s and '60s," said President Dana Mecum. "In 1955, he raced in the Pebble Beach road race on the 17 Mile Drive circuit, and he also served as a judge on the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance with his good friend, the late Phil Hill. Jim's love for motorcars of all types has resulted in a historically significant collection of automobiles that spans some of the greatest marques in our industry."
The collection includes 13 cars - all offered at no reserve - ranging from a 1953 Nash Ambassador to a 1972 De Tomaso Pantera and a 1984 Rolls-Royce Silver Spur.
Also included in the lineup is a rare 1940 LaSalle (Lot F102) that is one of 425 ever built and one of only 28 documented remaining examples. Two different series of cars were produced during the vehicle's last year of production, including the four all-new premium 52-Series models. This LaSalle Series 52 Special Convertible Coupe used GM's new torpedo-style body and features virtually flawless Corlear Blue Iridescent blue metallic paintwork. It has a heater, defroster, clock and radio for comfort, and added equipment such as dual Guide fog lamps, bumper guards, wide whitewall tires, contrasting tan cloth power top and twin side mirrors add to this vehicle's high style.
