Jeff Gordon’s #24 DuPont Monte Carlo SS

Fan Favorite Race Car Had Two Victories, Two Top 5 and Three Top 10 Finishes

MARENGO, Ill. - Dana Mecum's 23rd Original Spring Classic Auction continues to build excitement with collector car buyers and fans as it announces the addition of Jeff Gordon's #24 DuPont Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS (Lot F216) to its list of legendary vehicles offered at the event. The annual high-profile collector car auction will be held May 19-23, 2010, in Indianapolis, Ind.

"The celebrated success Jeff Gordon attained in this vehicle is hard to match," said President Dana Mecum. "This is a one-of-a-kind car with quite a pedigree and is likely one of the most highly visible race vehicles ever to hit the track. We're very excited to have the #24 Monte Carlo in our flagship auction and look forward to an enthusiastic reception from our attendees."

Four-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Champion Jeff Gordon raced the #24 DuPont Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS (chassis #24-183) 18 times between the 2001 and 2005 race seasons. This car visited victory lane twice during Gordon's 2001 NASCAR Sprint Cup Championship season, winning the UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on March 4, 2001, and the MBNA Platinum 400 at Dover International Speedway on June 3, 2001. In addition to the wins, the Monte Carlo had two poles, two Top 5 finishes and three Top 10 finishes during its lengthy career.

"Mecum has a great reputation in the auction business and knows the market for special interest vehicles better than any other organization," said Jim Perkins, president & COO of The Hendrick Companies, LLC, who has consigned the car. "This is an authentic cup car in every detail that was driven by a remarkable hometown Indiana 'Hoosier,' Mr. Jeff Gordon. There's really no more fitting venue to offer this unique automobile than the Mecum Auction at Indianapolis."

Gordon's Monte Carlo comes completely built by the Hendrick Motorsports #24 race shop and includes a genuine, certified original Jeff Gordon winning SB2 358cid V8 race engine. The car will be sold with certificates of authenticity, extensive documentation and a collection of race day and restoration photographs.

With the introduction of the Chevrolet Impala SS (COT) to NASCAR in 2008, Chassis #24-183, a Monte Carlo SS, was retired to become one of NASCAR's premier collector items.

Jeff Gordon's #24 DuPont Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS will cross the block Friday at 6:35 p.m. and joins more than 1,750 vehicles at Mecum's Original Spring Classic Auction.
