Good Turnout Graces Mecum Auction at the 35th Annual Corvette & Classic Chevy Show

Not even a home Ohio State Football game could keep the crowds away from the Second Annual Mecum Auction at the 35th Annual Corvette & Classic Chevy Show, held Saturday, September 6th at Bob McDorman Chevrolet in Canal Winchester, just outside of Columbus, Ohio. Again this year, portions of the auction’s proceeds will be donated to Nationwide Children’s Hospital of Columbus.

“There were times during the auction where the 250 chairs we had put out weren’t enough,” said Dana Mecum, president of Mecum Auction. “Attendees got to see Bob McDorman’s special car collection and a great afternoon of auction excitement, all while helping Nationwide Children’s Hospital,” he concluded.

A highlight of the show picked up on the medical theme. An Ohio couple purchased a rare ambulance, a 1962 Chevrolet Corvair, serial number 1. They had been in attending the show and when they learned that the ambulance, which had been part of Bob McDorman’s personal collection, was coming across the block, they bid and won. Their motivation for the purchase? Their son, a doctor, is being married in 2009 to – another doctor. The parents plan to have the ambulance incorporated into the wedding day.
