Dana Mecum’s 25th Original Spring Classic Auction Ramps Up

The excitement and buzz continues to build as Dana Mecum’s 25th Original Spring Classic Auction is fast approaching. More than 2,000 vehicles and over 1,200 pieces of Road Art will take over the Indiana State Fairgrounds May 15-20, 2012 in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Mecum’s famous annual Spring Classic auction has long been known as the collector car auction epicenter, and this year is no exception, as some of the world’s most desirable and collectible cars will be crossing the block next week in Indianapolis. The auction action begins on what Mecum has dubbed “Super Tuesday”, May 15th with over 300 cars offered. Highlights for opening day include 22 cars offered at no reserve from the Charlie Brooks Collection, as well as 24 vehicles from the collection of well-known Indianapolis car dealer Ray Skillman. From a 1933 Dodge Brothers Roadster (Lot G213) to a 1969 GTO Ram Air IV (Lot G192), Day One at Indy promises to set the tone for the 6-day auction marathon.

On Friday, some of the featured cars include the first 1969 Camaro ZL1 (Lot F330) built, originally delivered to Fred Gibb Chevrolet. Thirty-three cars from the private collection of Hobart, Indiana’s Pete Todo will roll across the block, and the record setting 1968 “Speed Spectacular” AMC Javelin (Lot F333) piloted by famous engine builder Craig Breedlove will also be taking center stage that evening.

Saturday will see more racecars, especially significant drag vehicles offered. Don “The Snake” Prudhomme himself will offer, from his private collection, the historic 1982 Pepsi Challenger Funny Car (Lot S182) that he drove to a record breaking 250 mph. Then the famous rail (Lot S200) that “TV” Tommy Ivo rode to flaming glory will be fired up and the bidding will start. Fans and spectators will have a chance to meet both Don Prudhomme and Tommy Ivo, as they will be onsite signing autographs from 12-1 p.m. Eastern Time on Saturday in the Marsh Blue Ribbon Pavilion. A handful of significant Yenko’s will be auctioned, including a 1967 Yenko Camaro (Lot S134), and a 1969 Yenko Nova (Lot S133). Two L88 Corvettes will fall under the hammer, including a 1968 Convertible (Lot S188), and the last L88 ever built, a 1969 Coupe (Lot S233).
