  • Barrett-Jackson’s first automotive lifestyle event in Southern California

COSTA MESA, Calif. – June 24, 2010 – Celebrity rides and charity cars will take center stage this weekend when the Barrett-Jackson Auction Company sells an exciting line up of custom and collectible cars at No Reserve. The celebrity and charity vehicles will be among approximately 400 sold during the inaugural Barrett-Jackson Orange County Auction on June 25-27, 2010, at the OC Fair & Events Center in Costa Mesa, Calif. SPEED will provide 18 hours of live, high-definition TV coverage during the three-day auction.

“Barrett-Jackson has a long tradition of helping charities raise money,” said Craig Jackson, chairman/CEO of Barrett-Jackson. “Since the company was founded, we’ve helped generate over $31 million dollars for charity, including over five million raised at our events this year. Our inaugural Orange County auction will be another great venue to sell some fantastic cars for charity, as well as showcase a little ‘star car’ power, too. In addition to our charity cars, some pretty amazing celebrity vehicles will also cross the block.”

Giving Back

Barrett-Jackson has always supported a number of important causes and even founded the Barrett-Jackson Cancer Research Fund in Memory of Russ and Brian Jackson this year. Barrett-Jackson waives both seller and buyer premiums on charity cars. Nine charities will benefit from the sale of a car at the Orange County auction.

All proceeds from the 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS custom coupe, known as the Project American Heroes Chevelle (Lot #350), will support the Armed Forces Foundation mission. It is the third in the series of muscle cars built by Route 66 Motorsports and documented in “Super Chevy” magazine.

The Darrell Gwynn Foundation will receive money from the sale of two major vehicles. A limited edition 2008 Barrett-Jackson Edition Ford Shelby GT, Lot #386, is being donated by Ron Pratte. Ford Motor Company and Shelby American built a small number of these vehicles in both coupe and convertible body styles. The Shelby Mustang coupe up for sale is #8 out of 100 total Barrett-Jackson Edition Shelby GT’s manufactured.

A 1990 Darrell Gwynn Coors Extra Gold Top Fuel Dragster replica (Lot #386.1) will also be sold. The 20th anniversary car meticulously replicates the top fuel dragster driven by legendary NHRA champion and proceeds will benefit the Darrell Gwynn Foundation.

Austin Hatcher Foundation for Pediatric Cancer will benefit from the record setting 2006 MK5 Volkswagen Jetta Turbo Diesel race car on Sunday, June 27. Lot # 647.1 is the first professional bio-diesel touring car and was debuted at Sebring in March 2007 in the SPEED World Challenge Touring Series. It was the only alternative-fueled race car in the SPEED World Challenge Tour Car field to date.

A 2007 Ford Mustang Saleen/Parnelli Jones Limited Edition coupe (Lot #330) with 400 hp will be sold for The Foundation for Blind Children while the Teen Project charity will benefit from the sale of a 2007 Chevrolet Corvette Custom Convertible (Lot #644). Complete with Z06 upgrades, LS-2 425 horsepower V8, and a 6-speed transmission, the Corvette was upgraded by Deshler Auto Body. It also features a navigation system, Z06 machined door sills, Corsa stainless steel exhaust and a custom hood.

A car sure to draw attention on Saturday will be sold for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. This powerful, wide body 5.0 Liter 2011 Ford Mustang custom coupe (Lot #365.1) was custom built over the last six months by DUB in Los Angeles. A 2011 model six cylinder custom Mustang built in collaboration with ROUSH Industries (Lot #54) will be sold with all proceeds to benefit the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Barrett-Jackson will also auction at No Reserve an exotic Panoz Esperante convertible (Lot #44) for the Chestnut Mountain Ranch. This hand-built roadster was built in Georgia at the same factory as the GT-2 Panoz race cars that won the 24 Hours of LeMans and the 12 Hours of Sebring in 2006.

All proceeds from the auction of a 1962 Ford Thunderbird Sports Roadster (Lot #62) will benefit the Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital. The classic Ford still has its original V8 engine and was extensively restored.

Star Cars

“We’ve loaded our docket up with some pretty amazing cars to kick off our inaugural Orange County event,” added Steve Davis, president of Barrett-Jackson. “Many of the star cars crossing the block are custom in every sense of the word. From serious horsepower upgrades to interior modifications that are finely tuned, these cars are true works of art.”

Many celebrities are expected to attend the Orange County auction, with several sending their cars to be sold. Jesse James has consigned his 1936 Ford Custom Five Window Coupe (Lot #382) from his personal collection. The hot rod was completely customized by the masters at West Coast Choppers. The two door automobile has a 3-speed automatic transmission and a 350 engine.

Several cars from TV’s wild West Coast Customs team will be offered at Barrett-Jackson. The company will sell four unique and powerful custom-tailored cars. A WCC car with star appeal is a 2006 Dodge Charger custom coupe (Lot #376.1) built to honor the original “Dukes of Hazzard” TV show. Lot #376 is a 2006 Cadillac Custom Four Door built for NBA star Shaquille O’Neal. The WCC team completely reworked the car with custom paint, wheels, audio and interior.

A 2005 Shelby West Coast Customs Mustang Coupe (Lot #364.2) is the first of a limited run of 25 that were initially planned. The 2006 Dodge Charger Custom Coupe from Lot #329.4 has been chopped and lowered with custom interior and audio, as well as custom paint.

A 1970 Mercedes-Benz 280SL convertible (Lot #332) that was owned by daytime television actress Patricia Barry will be sold at No Reserve. Ms. Barry used it as her personal car while she worked on the sets of Guiding Light, Days of Our Lives and Twilight Zone: The Movie.

With a 340 engine, a 1971 Dodge Charger Custom Coupe (Lot #371) used by the Mod Squad will roll across the block. The MOPAR with its distinctive sport stripes, original-style wheels and chrome exhaust tips looks the same as it appeared during the filming of the television series.
