Barrett-Jackson To Sell Rare ‘67 Shelby GT500 Survivor Car At No Reserve At Upcoming Scottsdale Auction https://blog.thelastdetail.com/barrett-jackson-to-sell-rare-67-shelby-gt500-survivor-car-at-no-reserve-at-upcoming-scottsdale-auction/ Wed, 26 Dec 2012 19:11:07 +0000 https://news.barrett-jackson.com/?p=5498
  • Rare original ’67 Shelby Mustang invited to be sold at No Reserve during Scottsdale Barrett-Jackson
  • One of the lowest mileage ‘67 GT500 in existence
  • One of the first GT500’s ever produced at Shelby American
  • World renowned experts Stephen Becker and Jim Cowles will attend to help Shelby buyers/sellers

ATLANTA – Dec. 20, 2012 – One of the rarest Shelby Mustangs in the world, a survivor ’67 GT500 (Lot  5024) will be sold at No Reserve during the 2013 Barrett-Jackson Auction in Scottsdale, Ariz., on January 19, 2013. With only 9,841 miles on the odometer, it may be the lowest mileage ‘67 GT500 in existence.

The Shelby is owned by Stephen Becker, president and CEO of Planet Cobra. He specializes in offering 1965 – 1970 Shelby Mustangs to clients internationally. He and Shelby expert Jim Cowles will be on-site to answer questions about the car and meet with individuals and discuss the vintage Shelby market.

“This car was one of the first GT500’s ever produced by Shelby American,” said Becker. “From its design and performance to its heritage and history, there’s truly nothing like it. It is a testament to the uniqueness of this special survivor Shelby that Barrett-Jackson will feature it as they honor Carroll Shelby this year.”

Barrett-Jackson plans to honor the late Mr. Shelby, who died in May 2012, with a party commemorating what would have been his 90th birthday on January 11. From the gala to an amazing group of the most desirable Shelby cars that will cross the block, the Scottsdale event will honor the automotive legend.

“Carroll Shelby was an American icon whose influence will continue to shape the automotive landscape for years,” stated Steve Davis, president of Barrett-Jackson. “The’67 Shelby GT500’s were a major milestone for Shelby American with its big block power and larger platform. Low-mileage survivor cars like this one from Stephen Becker, who is a recognized Shelby expert, are often cited as desirable collectibles. Not only do they provide a way to keep Carroll Shelby’s legacy alive, they are important pieces of history.”

The car has an intriguing https://www.eta-i.org/provigil.html history. In 1966, Edward Milkos decided to order the ’67 Shelby for drag racing.  After the car was delivered on February 27, 1967, he spent the next two years competing in races. Unfortunately, his amateur racing career ended when he suffered a serious injury. By the time Milkos healed, fuel prices had raised dramatically and the car was stored in his basement.

Thirty years later, Milkos traded in the Shelby for a late model car. This GT500 is a Nightmist Blue with black interior, a color combination highly desired by collectors. It is loaded with a 428 Police Interceptor engine and a dual four-barrel carburetion. The car has its original paint, wheel, tires and drive-train. It includes all original documentation including New Jersey license plates and a 1970 inspection sticker

Displayed at the Shelby Headquarters in Las Vegas, the GT500 went on tour in 2010. It was one of 20 vehicles invited to the Shelby tribute at the Quail in Monterey and appeared at the SAAC convention.

“This original, unrestored, well documented, all-matching numbers vehicle is one of the rarest Shelby’s ever built,” noted Becker. “This low mileage Shelby still has its original engine, transmission and rear end. I hope that it will go to someone who will understand and appreciate its value. It would certainly be the crown jewel of any collection.”

The World’s Greatest Collector Car Auctionsto Feature Presidential 2009 Ford F-150 King Ranch 4×4 SuperCrew January 13-20 2013, Proceeds to Benefit the Fisher House Foundation

Scottsdale, Ariz. – (December 12, 2012)Barrett-Jackson, the World’s Greatest Collector Car Auctions™, announced today that it will auction off a 2009 Ford F-150 King Ranch 4×4 SuperCrew owned by President George W. Bush at its Scottsdale auction on January 19, 2013. The pick-up will cross the block at approximately 9:30 pm at the conclusion of the Salon/5000 Series segment. All proceeds from the sale of the vehicle will benefit the Fisher House Foundation, a national program dedicated to assisting America’s military families.

President Bush has used this stunning white F-150 at his Prairie Chapel Ranch in Crawford, Texas, since shortly after he left the White House in 2009. With a 5.4-Liter V8 engine commanding 310 horsepower, this impressive truck has a luxurious adobe King Ranch premium leather interior and 11,200lbs towing capacity. President Bush and former First Lady Laura Bush have since used the truck to work around their ranch; entertain friends, family, and dignitaries and to give tours of their Crawford property.

“The Fisher House Foundation is an outstanding organization, and we are honored to support their efforts and are thankful to former President Bush for his donation,” said Craig Jackson, chairman and CEO of Barrett-Jackson. “Charitable giving is a part of Barrett-Jackson’s culture and philosophy and I can’t wait to see what happens once this truck crosses the auction block.”

The Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale represents a unique opportunity to own a piece of presidential automotive history. The truck on the block has been owned continuously by President Bush since he ordered it new from Jim Click Ford in Tucson, Ariz. The title is in the former President’s name and will be transferred directly to the buyer. Additionally, the right airbag panel features President Bush’s signature and a copy of a video showing him autographing the truck and driving it around his ranch in Crawford, Texas will be included with the purchase.

“With the help of former President Bush and the Fisher House Foundation, Barrett-Jackson is excited to be a part of this incredible sale”, said Steve Davis, president of Barrett-Jackson. “Driven by a President and now benefiting veterans, this truck is an exceptional piece of Americana that would make any collector proud.”

Barrett-Jackson first sold vehicles benefitting the Fisher House Foundation in 2007, selling a CNN Hummer for $1.25 million and, most recently, Jay Leno’s New Holland Tractor (signed by President Bush) for $535,000 at the 2012 Scottsdale auction. A total of approximately $1.7 million in funds have been raised for the foundation through Barrett-Jackson auctions.

The auction of the 2009 Ford F-150 King Ranch 4×4 SuperCrew from former President Bush was facilitated by the Gordon D. Sondland and Katherine J. Durant Foundation and all proceeds from the sale will go directly to the Fisher House Foundation, with the consignment fees waived. The Sondland/Durant Foundation was established in 1993 with a mission statement of “helping families and boosting communities.”  The Foundation has contributed millions of dollars since then toward children’s education, the arts, medical assistance for families and of course, support for wounded warriors and their families.

“I haven’t driven on a street in many, many years, but I have been able to drive this truck on my ranch,” said President Bush. “I want to thank all those who are supporting the Fisher House.  In supporting the Fisher House, you’re supporting our veterans.  And in supporting our veterans, you’re helping America.”

“I’ve been in this business a long time, and have found that every year, there’s a vehicle or two that really strikes a chord with collectors across the board,” said Craig Jackson, Barrett-Jackson chairman and CEO.  “This vehicle is proving to be one of those cars, and is a true desired centerpiece for any discerning race car enthusiast’s private collection.”

It has also racked up a plethora of honors and accolades, including the American Heritage Award 2007, the highest award for non-street Corvettes by the National Corvette Restorers Society. This L-88 has held center stage at numerous high-profile automotive events, including the 50th Anniversary of Corvette celebration at Pebble Beach in 2002, and the Amelia Island Concours in March of 2008. Later that same year, it was a part of a special display of Sebring racecars at Monterey, California’s Quail Motorsports event, and a featured part of the Corvette Racing Tribute at the famed Peterson Automotive Museum in Los Angeles. It was also the featured vehicle at the Corvette Hall of Fame in 2009, at the National Corvette Museum.

“In addition to its unmatched history of racing success, this vehicle includes exhaustive documentation, which can be rare on Corvette models,” said Steve Davis, Barrett-Jackson president. “We anticipate that the auction of one of the most significant Corvette racecars in existence will be among the highlights of Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale this year.”

Holy Grail of TV Star Cars to be Sold for First Time January 19, 2013

Scottsdale, Ariz. – (November 29, 2012) – Barrett-Jackson, the World’s Greatest Collector Car Auctions™, announced today that it will offer one of the most recognized and popular pieces of entertainment history worldwide, at its 42nd annual Scottsdale auction in January – the only 1955 Lincoln Futura concept car which was heavily modified by legendary customizer George Barris to become the original 1966 Batmobile in the live action TV series Batman, as well as the movie adaptation, starring Adam West. The car will cross the block alongside Barrett-Jackson’s 5000 Series on Saturday, January 19th from approximately 5:00pm – 9:00pm.

Still as striking as when it first came out of the paint shop, the original Batmobile has been a part of Barris’ personal collection since he first bought it from the Ford Motor Company for a dollar in 1965. Barrett-Jackson’s Scottsdale auction will mark the first time the car has gone up for sale since then.

Bringing the Batmobile to Life

The original one-off 1955 Lincoln Futura concept car was originally created by Ford Motor Company and a design team at the Lincoln Styling Department. The 19-foot long, two-seat, bubble-topped grand touring car prototype was entirely hand-built in 1954 by Ghia Body Works in Turin, Italy, and unveiled in its original pearlescent Frost-Blue white paint finish in 1955 at the Chicago Auto Show.

The car featured instruments housed in the steering wheel, as well as a push-button transmission, exterior microphones to pick up and transmit the sounds of traffic to the occupants inside, and a host of other innovative devices. According to several reports, it was described as a “rolling laboratory” from which Ford would learn about new technology to apply to their production automobiles. In 1959, sporting a fresh red paint job, the Futura was featured in the film, It Started with a Kiss, starring Debbie Reynolds and Glenn Ford.

Barris then acquired the vehicle and kept it in his garage for several years. In late 1965, 20th Century Fox Television and William Dozier’s Greenway Productions contacted Barris and asked him to produce a Batmobile for the upcoming TV series. With only 15 days and $15,000 budget to build a Batmobile, Barris decided to transform the Lincoln Futura concept car into what is now widely recognized as the original and iconic crime-fighting vehicle.

“The 1966 Batmobile by George Barris is one of the most famous Hollywood cars in history and it has become a true icon that has been carried from generation to generation of Batmobiles to follow,” said Craig Jackson, Chairman and CEO of Barrett-Jackson. “This vehicle not only marks the significant Bat logo that sits on the middle of its door, but a time in television history where they defied the odds of making a car the real star of the show. It revolutionized an entire industry that followed in its footsteps and we couldn’t be prouder to have it cross our block in Scottsdale as it goes up for sale for the very first time.”

The car features a 390-in 1956 Lincoln V-8 engine and a B&M Hydro Automatic transmission. Gadgets include a nose-mounted aluminum Cable Cutter Blade, Bat Ray Projector, Anti-Theft Device, Detect-a-scope, Batscope, Bat Eye Switch, Antenna Activator, Police Band Cut-In Switch, Automatic Tire Inflation Device, Remote Batcomputer, the Batphone, Emergency Bat Turn Lever, Anti-Fire Activator, Bat Smoke, Bat Photoscope, and many other Bat gadgets. If needed, the Batmobile was capable of a quick 180° “bat-turn” thanks to two rear-mounted ten-foot Deist parachutes.

In addition to being featured on various television/movie sets, the original Batmobile has been exhibited at numerous car shows and museums around the nation. The car is also exclusively featured in Christopher Nolan’s Batmobile Documentary, which can be viewed as a bonus feature on The Dark Knight Rises DVD. It will go up for auction along with memorabilia and documentation from Barris’ personal archives.

“There are only a few things in life that are able to capture the soul of an era and the Batmobile by George Barris did exactly that,” said Steve Davis, President of Barrett-Jackson. “There are the real fans that will strongly advocate, till this day, that coming home to watch the Batmobile soar out of the Batcave defines a lot of their first childhood memories. Whether you’re a car collector, entertainment enthusiast, or an average Joe looking to buy his dream car, you’re going to want to witness history being made in January with the sale of this car.”

1971 PLYMOUTH HEMI ‘CUDA CONVERTIBLE

The World’s Greatest Collector Car Auctionsto Feature One of Only 11 HEMI ‘Cuda Convertibles Ever Built

Scottsdale, Ariz. – (October 8, 2012) – Barrett-Jackson, the World’s Greatest Collector Car Auctions™, announced today that it will offer one of the most desirable Mopar muscle cars ever built – the FC7-In Violet Plymouth HEMI ‘Cuda Convertible, one of one in 1971 – as part of its exclusive Salon Collection at its famed Scottsdale auction, January 19, 2013. The vehicle best-known for its “Plum Crazy” color will be alongside other incredible vehicles up for sale at the 42nd annual auction January 13-20, 2013, under the company’s iconic quarter-mile tent.

Through a miraculous turn of events, it was rediscovered by long-time HEMI ‘Cuda Convertible hunter, Harold Sullivan, after the car was stolen nearly 30 years prior.  When Sullivan found the ‘Cuda shell on New Year’s Eve in 2001 it was covered in weeds and underbrush and only five days away from disappearing into a scrap-recycling yard.

After an extensive two-year restoration preparation by Cummins Restoration in Grand Haven, Mich., the HEMI ‘Cuda was completed by Ted Mazurek at Sullivan’s shop in Madison Heights, Mich. This uniquely-painted HEMI ‘Cuda Convertible was inspected, authenticated and appraised to the highest museum standards by Mopar guru, Galen Govier, after its restoration. The dedication Sullivan showed to this vehicle for many years ago paid off when the 1971 HEMI ‘Cuda Convertible took top honors at the 2005 Meadowbrook Concours d’Elegance.

As one of only 11 ever made, this particular HEMI ‘Cuda Convertible features the last factory-assembled 426cid HEMI V8 engine, with two 4 barrel carburetors, 727 automatic transmission, Super Track Pak package with Dana 60 rear end, 4.11 ratio gears and a power convertible top. This was also the only model year the ‘Cuda sported four headlights and fender “gills.”

“As an owner of a 1970 HEMI ‘Cuda Convertible, I am very excited to have such a memorable vehicle crossing the block with us in January,” said Craig Jackson, Chairman and CEO of Barrett-Jackson. ”It is a true automotive milestone and extraordinary example of ‘American Muscle’ at its finest. This year’s Salon offering is the best of the best, and is sure to attract not only Barrett-Jackson bidding veterans but also new bidders.”

Out of the 11 HEMI ‘Cuda Convertibles ever built, seven vehicles were sent to the U.S. and two of them were exported to England. As one of only two convertibles made for Canadian export, this vehicle was featured in Canadian Hot Rods and on the October 2011 cover of Mopar Action.

“After seeing the enthusiastic reaction of automotive fans and event attendees at our Las Vegas auction, we can feel the excitement and growing buzz around Scottsdale,” said Steve Davis, president, Barrett-Jackson. “We are confident that this rare HEMI ‘Cuda and its fascinating history will draw a large crowd at January’s auction.”
