Corvette coupe raises $125,000 for cancer investigations at TGen https://blog.thelastdetail.com/corvette-coupe-raises-125000-for-cancer-investigations-at-tgen/ Tue, 24 Jan 2012 19:50:49 +0000 https://news.barrett-jackson.com/?p=4320 Barrett-Jackson Auction funds research in memory of CEO’s father, brother

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Jan. 24, 2012 — Auction of a 1993 Chevrolet Corvette 40th Anniversary coupe (Lot #3044) raised $125,000 at the 41st Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction, benefiting cancer research at the Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen).

Proceeds go to the Barrett-Jackson Cancer Research Fund at TGen, in Memory of Russ and Brian Jackson. The fund is a salute to auction Chairman and CEO Craig Jackson’s father, Russ, and brother, Brian, whose lives were cut short by colon cancer.

The ruby red 1993 Corvette is one of the 40th anniversary models of this legendary sports car. The first Corvette was built in 1953.

The car previously raised more than $200,000 for non-profit TGen research. The Corvette was sold and donated back several times during the 2011 auction, overseen by an emotional Craig Jackson.

This year, the Corvette was auctioned during Barrett-Jackson’s evening prime time in Scottsdale on Saturday, Jan. 21, when many of the most expensive collector cars were featured.

The car raised $120,000 through auction, during which one member of the Barrett-Jackson audience also volunteered a separate $5,000 donation to TGen.

“Auction proceeds from this car are just a part of our ongoing commitment to raising funds and awareness about the tremendous work being done by TGen. I am so energized and honored by the research being done in memory of my dad and brother,” Craig Jackson said.

Besides its annual Scottsdale event, Barrett-Jackson also conducts collector car auctions each year in: Palm Beach, Fla.; Orange County, Calif.; and Las Vegas, Nev.

Money raised by Barrett-Jackson supports TGen’s research into colon and prostate cancer at TGen’s Russ and Brian Jackson Research Laboratory, which is supported by the Barrett-Jackson Cancer Research Fund at TGen. This effort has become a fundraising focus at each of the four Barrett-Jackson collector car auctions. Craig Jackson has acted as a national spokesperson, spreading the word about how the fund supports research into both colon and prostate cancer, and how the research may lead to improved quality of life for cancer patients.

“The Barrett-Jackson team is helping to bring TGen’s personalized approach to patients who are battling cancer right now,” said Michael Bassoff, President of the non-profit TGen Foundation. “This research focuses on providing patients with the right treatment in the right dosage at the right time.’’

Nearly 140,000 Americans are diagnosed annually with colon cancer, which each year kills nearly 50,000 patients, the third-leading cause of cancer death in the U.S.

An additional 240,000 American men are annually diagnosed with prostate cancer, which each year kills nearly 34,000 patients, the second-leading cause of cancer death among men in the U.S.

The Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction helped raise $5.8 million for local and national charities.

Proceeds will go to the Barrett-Jackson Cancer Research Fund at TGen, in Memory of Russ and Brian Jackson.

The car already has raised more than $200,000 for TGen research. The Corvette was sold and donated back several times during last year’s auction, which was overseen by an emotional Craig Jackson.

“The donation, and re-donation, of this vehicle is a remarkable gesture and I am overcome with gratitude for the funds raised for TGen cancer research in memory of my dad and brother,” Craig Jackson said.

This year, the Corvette will go on the auction block about 9:30 p.m. Jan. 21. This Saturday night slot is considered prime time at the auction, when many of the most expensive collector cars are featured. The Corvette has a 350cid V8 engine, 6-speed transmission, both tops, 8,000 original miles, air conditioning, power windows and power brakes.

The Barrett-Jackson Cancer Research Fund at TGen has become a fundraising focus at each of the four Barrett-Jackson collector car auctions. Craig Jackson acts as a national spokesperson, spreading the word about how the fund supports research into both diseases and may one day lead to improved quality of life for cancer patients.

DALLAS and SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Jan. 09, 2012 Airband Communications, the largest fixed-wireless voice and data provider for businesses in the U.S., announced today it has been named the exclusive wireless Internet provider for the 41st Annual Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction at WestWorld in Scottsdale from Jan. 15-22, 2012.  For the third consecutive year, Airband will provide highly scalable Internet access via its fixed-wireless network to enable live interaction for Barrett-Jackson’s bidders and global fan base.

Due to the increasing demand for Internet-enabled communications at Barrett-Jackson auction events, Airband is adding 10 MB of bandwidth at this year’s show, for a total of 80 MB.  In addition, Barrett-Jackson is leveraging the increased bandwidth to support unlimited, free Wi-Fi access in its social media area so that attendees can use their phones and mobile devices to interact and share their auction experience via the web and social media outlets, such as Twitter and Facebook.  As one of the world’s most widely attended automobile auction events offering one-of-a-kind collector cars, Barrett-Jackson requires 100 percent uptime and reliable Internet access to help manage its social media channels, automotive catalog, online bidding, and live video streaming.

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (Jan 9, 2012) – New technology will share the spotlight with old in 2012 as Barrett-Jackson, creator of “The World’s Greatest Collector Car Auctions™, is teaming with BizBox to create the Barret-Jackson “Mobile” Social Media Hot Spot for all its events and grass roots efforts nationwide.

The Social Media Hot Spot will make its first appearance at the 41st Annual Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction in Scottsdale on Jan. 15-22. Featuring over a thousand vehicles to cross the auction block, the Scotttsdale event has become a fixture in Arizona over the past four decades, annually attracting more than 250,000 visitors from all 50 states and numerous foreign countries.

“We are very excited to be working with Barrett-Jackson,” said BizBox CEO Rick Sikorski. “The Barrett-Jackson name is synonymous with quality, beauty and ageless technology. They recognize that BizBox allows them to reflect their brand and image in a much more appropriate and innovative setting than has been traditionally available in a tent or trailer. Once again, Barrett-Jackson’s ‘out-of-the-box’ thinking sets them apart.”

BizBox, which has been described as similar to a product you would expect from Apple, is the latest, greatest and greenest evolution in transportable buildings.

Powered by solar technology, BizBox transforms within minutes from a perfect mobile “Branded Box” that can easily be customized to a state-of-the-art office, showroom, food or medical retail store or display center — all at the drop of a hitch. The mobile building features glass walls, hardwood floors, HD display panels and a wraparound deck that can be set up in minutes.

Barrett-Jackson Chairman and CEO Craig Jackson said that the unique look, custom wrap, flexibility and state-of-the-art features of BizBox create the perfect showcase for the company’s many products and services.

“Technology is the chassis of the auction business,” said Craig Jackson, Chairman and CEO of Barrett-Jackson. “We’ve long been at the forefront of new technology, and we’re proud to add this new hot-spot for our guests.”

Scottsdale, Ariz. – Dec. 28, 2011 – Paying homage to Shelby American’s 50th Anniversary in 2012, Barrett-Jackson will auction a limited number of superb Shelbys including five exquisite original models that are among the crown jewels of the upcoming World’s Greatest Collector Car Auction at Westworld in Scottsdale Jan. 15-22.

The spectacular vehicles represent each year from 1965-1969 and one is an extremely rare “barn find.”

“These cars represent a tremendous – and tremendously collectible – era,” said Craig Jackson, Chairman and CEO of Barrett-Jackson. “Carroll Shelby has long been part of the Barrett-Jackson family, and this year, in honor of Shelby American’s 50th Anniversary, the cars that will cross our auction block are particularly spectacular.”

Among the headlining Shelbys is a 1965 Shelby GT350 Fastback (Lot #1263.1), a remarkable barn find that was owned by its original owner for more than 44 years until it was sold in 2009. It has the matching numbers engine and drivetrain with 44,000 original miles, and original paint and interior. The engine and transmission have been freshened and the car is very drivable.  (VIN  SFM5S492)

Barrett-Jackson President Steve Davis added,” With each passing year, these barn-finds become increasingly rare. We are honored to present this tremendous Shelby and many others. These vehicles represent a defining time for an American Legend, and proudly, a man we call a friend.”

“The 2012 50th anniversary celebration will be an exciting year for the Shelby brand,” said John Luft, President of Shelby American. “We’re proud to team up with Barrett-Jackson once again to celebrate this historic milestone in automotive history.  We will pull the silk back on the new limited edition Shelby 50th Anniversary vehicles for enthusiasts to see right here at Barrett-Jackson”.

From 1966 comes a freshly restored GT 350H with matching numbers (Lot #1262.2).  This car is a stunning example with a complete rotisserie restoration, beautiful Dark Ivy Green paint with gold competition GT350H stripes, and Hertz Magnum 500 wheels with period correct Goodyear Blue Streak tires.  This car has been meticulously restored to its classic Shelby heritage.  (VIN SFM6S1047)

Representing 1967 is #2545, a Shelby GT350 Fastback (Lot #1263) featuring a Dark Moss Green exterior and black interior. This incredible vehicle was a special order, very highly optioned car with air conditioning, Magstars and California emissions, and is one of one with option combination. It’s undergone professional restoration and boasts SAAC Concours Gold. (VIN  67213F5A02545)

From the Ron Pratte Collection is an extraordinarily rare 1968 Shelby GT500 Convertible (Lot  #1016.2), this jewel is one of only 153 428cid with 4-speed Shelby GT500 convertibles built in 1968 and underwent a complete rotisserie restoration and was fully documented by Marti Report.  (VIN 8T03S17960102967)

A very rare, mostly original, documented, matching numbers driveline 1969 Shelby GT500 will also be rolling across the Barrett-Jackson auction block (Lot #1257.2).  This particular model is one of only 1,534 1969/1970 GT500 Fastbacks and boasts an original R Code 428/335hp Cobra Jet with 3.50 Traction-Lok and close-ratio 4-speed.  Per the Shelby American World Registry, the car was used as a DST show car, as well as a Goodyear photo car at Ford’s expense. The Shelby was ordered with special paint code F5, Gulfstream Aqua, with a black interior. Elite Marti report is included. (VIN 9F02R480665).
