$1,000,200 raised for Wounded Warriors Family Support Through Auction of Shelby GT500 at Barrett-Jackson Auction https://blog.thelastdetail.com/1000200-raised-for-wounded-warriors-family-support-through-auction-of-shelby-gt500-at-barrett-jackson-auction/ Tue, 10 Apr 2012 16:51:02 +0000 https://news.barrett-jackson.com/?p=4586 Omaha, Neb., April 9, 2012 – A wrapped special-edition 2011 Ford Shelby GT500, signed by veterans, their family members and supporters, was sold – twice – at the Barrett-Jackson Palm Beach auction April 7 and raised $1,000,200 for Wounded Warriors Family Support.

“Wounded Warriors Family Support is a small, independent non-profit organization that provides support to the families of U.S. Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines who have been wounded, injured or killed during combat operations,” said Col. John Folsom, founder. “We are so grateful for the generous support of the auction participants and the American people. We are especially grateful for the team at Barrett-Jackson for their tremendous help. The money raised through this auction will enable us to help military families in so many ways.”

At the auction, Col. Folsom spoke to the crowd about the hundreds of signatures on the car. President Barack Obama’s signature is not among them, he said, but the car is signed by people from all across America.

“I am saddened that a handful of detractors have unfairly taken my comment about ‘real Americans’ out of context to start a controversy,” Col. Folsom said. “I meant to say that the car was signed by Americans who were not celebrities. I was not intending to be disrespectful to our President.”

In fact, Col. Folsom has posted comments thanking Mrs. Obama for her work with military families, and he was invited to meet with members of her staff in June of 2010 about Wounded Warrior Family Support programs.

On June 25, 2012, Col. Folsom will begin the third annual nationwide High Five Tour with a 2012 GT500 Super Snake. On the 48-state tour, Col. Folsom intends to meet as many Americans as possible and thank them for their support of military families who have given so much.

“The High Five Tour will make a stop in Washington, D.C., on July 7. I would be honored to have President Obama sign the 2012 car,” Col. Folsom added.

SCOTTSDALE, AZ. – April 10, 2012 – Barrett-Jackson Auction Company, The World’s Greatest Collector Car Auctions™, announced today that its 10th Annual Palm Beach Event, held April 5-7 at the South Florida Fairgrounds, generated more than $18 million in sales of Classics, Muscle Cars, Hot Rods, Resto-Mods, Exotics and Contemporary Collectibles in front of a crowd of over 55,000.

Both attendance and sales figures were up from last year. The three-day event, which featured nearly 450 vehicles, was also enjoyed by millions across the country on SPEED, with more than 20 hours of live coverage.   Attendance and sales figures exceeded last year’s numbers, further signifying an economic upswing.

The 10th Annual Palm Beach Auction also brought in a large number of new bidders with 42 percent having registered to bid at the event for the first time.  Additionally, Barrett-Jackson saw some fantastic individual sales, including the following vehicles:

“We had a very successful 10th anniversary in Palm Beach,” said Craig Jackson, chairman and CEO, Barrett-Jackson. “I’m thrilled to see a continuation in the recovery of the economy. Barrett-Jackson auctions have consistently been a strong leading indicator of the economic climate and this year has proven to be a very positive trend.”

Barrett-Jackson also helped to raise nearly $1.8 million for local and national charitable organizations that included Wounded Warriors Family Support, The Darrell Gwynn Foundation and many more.  The charitable efforts began during the Barrett-Jackson Opening Night Gala on April 4 where a silent auction benefitting The Darrell Gwynn Foundation raised $55,000.  Eight charitable vehicles were sold in total and Barrett-Jackson waived its consignment fees and buyer’s premiums for each one.

“I’m a big fan of Palm Beach and the collectors who come here from all over the East Coast,” said Barrett-Jackson President Steve Davis. “The fact that we see more enthusiasts here every year is a testament to their dedication to the hobby.”

Barrett-Jackson is currently accepting consignment requests for the 2012 Orange County Auction scheduled June 22-24.  For more information, visit www.barrett-jackson.com.
