SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Sept. 3, 2015 – Barrett-Jackson, The World’s Greatest Collector Car Auctions®, will light up the Las Vegas strip with custom, muscle and classic vehicles during its 8th Annual Las Vegas Auction from Sept. 24-26, 2015, at the world-renowned Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino. Among the star attractions on this year’s auction docket is a 1965 Chevrolet Nova SS “Dobbertin’s” Custom, a 1974 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am 455 Super Duty and a 1979 Porsche 930 Turbo.

1979 Porsche 930 Turbo

“We’re going full-throttle as we prepare for our 8th annual Las Vegas auction at Mandalay Bay,” said Craig Jackson, chairman and CEO of Barrett-Jackson. “Our docket is filling up with many spectacular vehicles and we’re excited to showcase our event with 24 hours of live coverage on Discovery and Velocity across the three days.”

Highlighting the exciting docket of vehicles set to cross the block in Las Vegas is a 1979 Porsche 930 Turbo. One of only 806 sold in the U.S during the 1979 model year, this Metallic Silver over optional black sport interior has zero rust and only 38,465 miles. Guests will also get a chance to bid on 1959 Mercedes-Benz 190 SL. The classic luxury convertible is powered by a 1.9-liter inline 4-cylinder engine with upgraded Weber carburetors attached to a 4-speed manual transmission.

1974 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am 455 Super Duty

The last of the great American muscle cars will also be well represented with a 1974 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am 455 Super Duty. Only 212 of the 943 that were produced for the 1974 model year were equipped with the Pontiac 455 Super Duty engine and 4-speed transmission, and this is one of them. With less than 9,500 actual miles, this three-owner car features a copy of the Pontiac Division Build Sheet, original owner’s manual, warranty booklet, copy of the Window Sticker from Pontiac Historical Services and a copy of the original title from the owner dated August 1974.

“We’ve ramped up our Las Vegas auction with a fantastic group of vehicles,” said Steve Davis, president of Barrett-Jackson. “The breadth of our docket this year includes something for first-time bidders, as well as seasoned collectors. I’m confident this year’s Las Vegas auction will be a highlight in the collector car hobby.”

1965 Chevrolet Nova SS “Dobbertin’s” Custom

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Aug. 25, 2015Barrett-Jackson, The World’s Greatest Collector Car Auctions®, announced today that QuikSilver, the world’s ultimate custom truck, will cross the block during the Barrett-Jackson 45th Anniversary Auction at WestWorld of Scottsdale, Jan. 23-31, 2016. The award-winning custom truck has amassed countless prestigious awards, trouncing car-based creations that typically dominate the hot rod hobby. QuikSilver took top prize with Best of Show during the 2014 Barrett-Jackson Cup Championship in Reno, Nevada.

“QuikSilver will definitely turn heads at Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale,” said Craig Jackson, chairman and CEO of Barrett-Jackson. “The experienced builder and hot rodder will recognize that few builds have this level of detail and craftsmanship. From the simple precision of the tailgate latch to the hand-stitched interior, this truck represents some of the finest coach-building ever seen. QuikSilver will make a wonderful centerpiece of a collection anywhere in the world.”

The ’57 Chevy pickup was extensively customized over a period of five years by Hot Rod Garage in Sand Springs, Oklahoma. Under the hood is a 540 big block Chevy engine with an estimated 650 horsepower. The engine is fed by a Crower 8-stack intake converted to electronic fuel injection with FAST XFI and is mated to a Gearstar 4L60E automatic transmission. Inside the truck, the dash has been reshaped and fitted with a one-off gauge cluster, gauges, steering wheel, and gas and brake pedals. The bench seat, console, door panels and headliner were designed and handmade by Chuck Rowland using 10 hides of smooth and perforated burgundy Mercedes leather.

“Historically, custom trucks haven’t seen the same level of attention as their counterpart cars,” said Steve Davis, president of Barrett-Jackson. “That’s why it was exciting to see QuikSilver take top prize in Reno during our Barrett-Jackson Cup competition. I believe it set a high standard for custom vehicles across the industry and sent the message that trucks are serious contenders in custom competitions.”

In addition to the 2014 Barrett-Jackson Cup Best of Show championship win in Reno, QuikSilver was in the Great 8 at the 2013 Detroit Autorama and was also named Goodguys Truck of the Year in 2013. The custom truck was a huge star at SEMA 2013 in Las Vegas, driving away with the Mother’s Choice Award, among others.

“Barrett-Jackson is the only place I could imagine selling QuikSilver,” said Alan Beers, QuikSilver owner. “It is simply the best auction house in the world. The bidders really appreciate all kinds of vehicles, including custom trucks. Award-winning vehicles like mine typically attract maximum attention.”

QuikSilver was on display at the Barrett-Jackson Reno Tahoe auction and served as the centerpiece of the 2015 Barrett-Jackson Cup finalists. The outstanding pickup will also be exhibited at the Las Vegas auction (Sept. 24-26, 2015) and the 2015 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, November 3-6, 2015.

  • The first car to participate in a national NHRA event, Carl Grimes’ 1954 DeSoto Custom Drag Race Car (Lot #494) will cross the block in Scottsdale

A 1953 Chevrolet Corvette Roadster driven by NASCAR Hall of Fame members Herb Thomas and Junior Johnson is just one of many great race cars set to cross the block in January at the 44th Annual Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction.

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Dec. 10, 2014Barrett-Jackson, The World’s Greatest Collector Car AuctionsTM, will offer hundreds of vehicles during its Scottsdale auction Jan. 10-18, 2015, at WestWorld in Scottsdale, Ariz. The predominantly No Reserve auction will offer a diverse docket of vehicles featuring some historic race cars. Highlighted by a coveted ’53 Corvette (Lot #5054) raced by NASCAR Hall of Fame members Herb Thomas and Junior Johnson, the auction also features a ’68 L88 Corvette Convertible (Lot #5048) from James Garner’s American International Racing team as well as Carl Grimes’ 1954 DeSoto that was the first car to participate in a national NHRA event.

“Motorsports has had a profound influence on our love for cars,” said Craig Jackson, chairman and CEO of Barrett-Jackson. “Many of the race cars in our Scottsdale docket have incredible stories behind them, and now our bidders can own a piece of that racing history.”

True to the roots of American stock car racing, a ’53 Chevrolet Corvette Roadster (Lot #5054) is set to cross the block in Scottsdale in January. The Daytona Beach NASCAR ’53 Corvette Convertible was created by Chevrolet Engineering for NASCAR as part of Ed Cole’s push to save the Corvette and create a brand image of speed and performance. Throughout its racing tenure, this corvette was driven by a number of NASCAR legends, most notably NASCAR Hall of Fame members Herb Thomas and Junior Johnson. Under the supervision ofthree-time Indy 500 winner Mauri Rose, this Corvette was one of two rebuilt by Chevrolet Experimental Shop and Garage in November 1955, as a project titled “Rebuilding of NASCAR Corvettes for NASCAR Stock Car Racing.”

Also among the most anticipated race cars at Scottsdale is a pair of ’68 L88 Corvette convertibles. One of the first 200 Corvettes built in 1968, a LeMans Blue L88 Corvette Competition Convertible (Lot # 5048) purchased by James Garner for his American International Racing team, will cross the auction block on Saturday, January 17. Raced by Dick Guldstrand, this #44 car took the pole in the 1968 Daytona 24 Hours race. The second, a ’68 Corvette Convertible L88 race car (Lot # 5035), was built and raced by Don Yenko for the Sunray DX-sponsored team. This #2 DX L88 became Yenko’s personal racer on his way to winning the 1968 SCCA Midwest Division championship.

The Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction will also feature an iconic piece of National Hot Rod Association history. The first car to participate in the first national NHRA drag race, a ’54 DeSoto Custom Drag Race Car (Lot #494), will be one of the most prized pieces of the drag racing genre in Scottsdale. The sole known survivor of motorsports pioneer and NHRA Hall of Fame member Carl Grimes, this drag car is famously known as Grimes’ “Wild Wagon.”

“True to Barrett-Jackson, we continue to build a docket with some of the most amazing collector car vehicles,” said Steve Davis, president of Barrett-Jackson. “Our mission is to include something for every car collector who comes to our auction. From high-performance race cars like the Corvette L88s to custom NHRA drag racers, we have something for every motorsports and racing enthusiast.”

Racing legend Graham Hill’s #70, Indy Car (Lot #5069), a 1968 Lotus STP Type chassis 56/3 will also cross the Scottsdale block. Famous for its turbine engine, it is one of the only four original type 56 cars ever made. Nearly 50 years after shattering the qualifying record at the 1968 Indy 500, this car was fully restored by Clive Chapman and Andy Granatelli’s son, Vince, with meticulous attention to detail and engineering.

Live coverage of the Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction in Scottsdale will be broadcast on Velocity and Discovery during more than 36 hours of live, high-definition TV coverage from Tuesday through Sunday, Jan. 13- 18.

The 1954 Pontiac Bonneville Special Motorama concept car, one of only two designed by GM styling icon Harley Earl, is just one of 142 cars in the Ron Pratte Collection crossing the block at the 2015 Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction in January.

(Silver Spring, Md.)Velocity and Discovery Channel announced today 36 hours of live, world premiere coverage of the 44th annual BARRETT-JACKSON SCOTTSDALE AUCTION beginning Tuesday, January 13 from 6-8 PM ET/PT on Discovery Channel and continuing through Sunday, January 18 from 2-7 PM ET on Velocity. The networks’ broadcast of the Scottsdale auction kicks off an agreement to air 100 hours of live coverage of BARRETT-JACKSON, The World’s Greatest Collector Car Auctions™, across Discovery Channel and Velocity in 2015.

“January’s Scottsdale auction is the most buzzed about in Barrett-Jackson’s storied history,” said Robert Scanlon, General Manager, Velocity. “We pride ourselves in delivering world-class automotive content and our broadcast of this auction represents the very best of Velocity. There is no more exciting way to start off 2015 than partnering with Discovery Channel to bring audiences inside BARRETT-JACKSON SCOTTSDALE live as it happens.”

For the first time ever, the BARRETT-JACKSON SCOTTSDALE AUCTION will air live internationally on Discovery Channel and Discovery World in Canada, and on Discovery Channel and Discovery Turbo in Latin America throughout the week. In addition, the Spanish language broadcast will be available to U.S. viewers on Discovery en Español on Saturday, January 17 from 8-10 PM ET.

“We’re excited to take Barrett-Jackson to a purely automotive network again,” said Craig Jackson, chairman and CEO of Barrett-Jackson. “We’re also thrilled to mark another first in our history by going live to all of North America and Latin America, and broadcasting bilingually to bring the world of collector cars to a whole new audience.”

The highlight of the BARRETT-JACKSON SCOTTSDALE AUCTION will be Ron Pratte’s world-renowned collection of 142 cars, trucks and motorcycles, as well as more than 1,500 pieces of automotive memorabilia. The collection includes the only remaining 1966 Shelby Cobra 427 Super Snake and a striking 1954 Pontiac Bonneville Special Motorama concept car, one of only two designed by GM styling icon Harley Earl. The collection’s very rare 1950 GM Futurliner (one of only 12 ever built) will be auctioned off with 100-percent of the proceeds benefiting the Armed Forces Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit dedicated to supporting and advocating for active-duty military personnel, National Guardsmen, Reservists, military families and veterans.

Another highlight of the Scottsdale auction block is NASCAR championship driver Jeff Gordon’s fully restored 1999 No. 24 Pepsi Chevrolet Monte Carlo. The historic stock car was rebuilt to “as new” condition by Ray Evernham, and last used by Gordon and his then crew chief Evernham in their final season competing together. Now on display in the Barrett-Jackson Collection Showroom in Scottsdale after its multi-city unveiling, the car is scheduled to cross the block during the Scottsdale auction with proceeds going to benefit The Jeff Gordon Children’s Foundation.

Other highlights of BARRETT-JACKSON SCOTTSDALE include the 1955 Chevy used in the counterculture-era cult classic film “Two-Lane Blacktop” starring James Taylor and The Beach Boys’ Dennis Wilson, and a 1952 Woodill Wildfire, the first complete fiberglass car ever available and the star of three films: “Johnny Dark” with Tony Curtis; “Written on the Wind” with Rock Hudson; and “Knock on Wood” with Danny Kaye. Viewers can also expect an incredible line-up of customs and Hot Rods, including a 1971 De Tomaso Pantera Ringbrothers Custom created in collaboration with Nike, and Jimmy Shine’s 1934 Ford Custom Pickup, considered by many to be a “turning point” Hot Rod of the 20th century.
