  • An unrestored ’62 Corvette “Fuelie” (Lot #402) with only 29,000 original miles will be an auction highlight in Palm Beach
  • A ’62 Corvette Custom Convertible (Lot #420) featuring a 427ci LS7 engine will be among the bidder favorites
  • A matching numbers ’65 Corvette Convertible (Lot #435) completely frame-off restored by Richard Petty’s Garage will be one of the most notable consignments

PALM BEACH, Fla. – March 20, 2015 – Barrett-Jackson, The World’s Greatest Collector Car Auctions®, will feature a number of impeccable classic and custom Corvettes from the 1950s and ’60s during the 13th Annual Palm Beach Auction in Palm Beach, Florida, April 17-19, 2015, at the South Florida Fairgrounds. Among the top models is an unrestored, fuel-injected ’62 Corvette (Lot #402) with only 29,000 original miles.

“The Corvette has captured the hearts of car aficionados since it rolled out in 1953,” said Craig Jackson, chairman and CEO of Barrett-Jackson. “The first generation was undeniably head-turning, and by the late ’50s the Corvette was earning its reputation on the race tracks. Today the Corvette is one of the most revered American sports cars and we’re excited to have many of the best examples represented during our Palm Beach auction.”

This ’62 Corvette “Fuelie” (Lot #402) is considered one of the most original unrestored 1962 Corvettes in existence. An impressive history began when it was selected as one of three Corvettes presented in the 1976 original Michael Antonick publication, “Corvette! The Sensuous American,” a book dedicated to Harley Earl. This “Fuelie” was also part of the Chip Miller collection from 1980 through 1986 and has earned a total of six NCRS Top Flight Awards, including two National Top Flights. With the original paint, original drive train and only 29,000 miles, it’s as though this Corvette has been locked in a time capsule all these years.

Lot #420, 1962 Corvette Custom Convertible

The Palm Beach auction will also include a meticulously built ’62 Corvette Custom Convertible (Lot #420) powered by a strong, dry sump LS7 427/505hp engine, six-speed transmission and a custom nine-inch independent rear axle with inboard brakes. The immaculate interior is donned in high-grade custom leather upholstery and custom-built gauges. The attention to detail and superior craftsmanship on this Resto-Mod creates a one-of-a-kind opportunity for bidders.

“The Corvette wasn’t born an icon, but it’s become as ingrained in American culture as rock ’n’ roll and baseball,” said Steve Davis, president of Barrett-Jackson. “From the early models to the new 2015 Corvette supercar, this American machine is a true mechanical achievement. I’m confident the Corvettes crossing the block in Palm Beach auction will be among our crowd favorites.”

An incredibly rare ’65 Corvette (Lot #435) with matching numbers on the engine and transmission adds to the list of amazing Corvettes crossing the auction block in Palm Beach. In 2014, over 600 hours were spent on restoring this classic in the garage of seven-time NASCAR champion Richard Petty. “The King’s” team of experts rebuilt, repaired and rechromed every original part that could be brought back to new condition. The engine, transmission and rear differential were completely rebuilt and the brake lines and fuel lines were upgraded to stainless steel with all hardware being factory replacements.

The ownership history of this ’65 Corvette is just as impressive as the car itself, all of which is well-documented with invoices and letters. The late British actor Sir John Mills originally purchased the car for his daughters, actresses Juliet and Hayley Mills. Juliet and her husband, actor Maxwell Caulfield, owned the car through the mid-1980s.

Other Corvettes included in the West Palm Beach auction include a ’61 Corvette Convertible (Lot #376) and a ’57 Corvette Convertible (Lot #431), both with frame-off restorations and matching numbers. The ’61 Corvette was restored using NOS parts and features a new interior and new convertible top. The ’57 Corvette is the recipient of a NCRS Regional Top Flight Award, scoring a 97.7.

Live coverage of the Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction in Palm Beach will be broadcast in live, high-definition TV coverage on Velocity and Discovery from Friday through Sunday, April 17-19.

A 1953 Chevrolet Corvette Roadster driven by NASCAR Hall of Fame members Herb Thomas and Junior Johnson is just one of many great race cars set to cross the block in January at the 44th Annual Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction.

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Dec. 10, 2014Barrett-Jackson, The World’s Greatest Collector Car AuctionsTM, will offer hundreds of vehicles during its Scottsdale auction Jan. 10-18, 2015, at WestWorld in Scottsdale, Ariz. The predominantly No Reserve auction will offer a diverse docket of vehicles featuring some historic race cars. Highlighted by a coveted ’53 Corvette (Lot #5054) raced by NASCAR Hall of Fame members Herb Thomas and Junior Johnson, the auction also features a ’68 L88 Corvette Convertible (Lot #5048) from James Garner’s American International Racing team as well as Carl Grimes’ 1954 DeSoto that was the first car to participate in a national NHRA event.

“Motorsports has had a profound influence on our love for cars,” said Craig Jackson, chairman and CEO of Barrett-Jackson. “Many of the race cars in our Scottsdale docket have incredible stories behind them, and now our bidders can own a piece of that racing history.”

True to the roots of American stock car racing, a ’53 Chevrolet Corvette Roadster (Lot #5054) is set to cross the block in Scottsdale in January. The Daytona Beach NASCAR ’53 Corvette Convertible was created by Chevrolet Engineering for NASCAR as part of Ed Cole’s push to save the Corvette and create a brand image of speed and performance. Throughout its racing tenure, this corvette was driven by a number of NASCAR legends, most notably NASCAR Hall of Fame members Herb Thomas and Junior Johnson. Under the supervision ofthree-time Indy 500 winner Mauri Rose, this Corvette was one of two rebuilt by Chevrolet Experimental Shop and Garage in November 1955, as a project titled “Rebuilding of NASCAR Corvettes for NASCAR Stock Car Racing.”

Also among the most anticipated race cars at Scottsdale is a pair of ’68 L88 Corvette convertibles. One of the first 200 Corvettes built in 1968, a LeMans Blue L88 Corvette Competition Convertible (Lot # 5048) purchased by James Garner for his American International Racing team, will cross the auction block on Saturday, January 17. Raced by Dick Guldstrand, this #44 car took the pole in the 1968 Daytona 24 Hours race. The second, a ’68 Corvette Convertible L88 race car (Lot # 5035), was built and raced by Don Yenko for the Sunray DX-sponsored team. This #2 DX L88 became Yenko’s personal racer on his way to winning the 1968 SCCA Midwest Division championship.

The Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction will also feature an iconic piece of National Hot Rod Association history. The first car to participate in the first national NHRA drag race, a ’54 DeSoto Custom Drag Race Car (Lot #494), will be one of the most prized pieces of the drag racing genre in Scottsdale. The sole known survivor of motorsports pioneer and NHRA Hall of Fame member Carl Grimes, this drag car is famously known as Grimes’ “Wild Wagon.”

“True to Barrett-Jackson, we continue to build a docket with some of the most amazing collector car vehicles,” said Steve Davis, president of Barrett-Jackson. “Our mission is to include something for every car collector who comes to our auction. From high-performance race cars like the Corvette L88s to custom NHRA drag racers, we have something for every motorsports and racing enthusiast.”

Racing legend Graham Hill’s #70, Indy Car (Lot #5069), a 1968 Lotus STP Type chassis 56/3 will also cross the Scottsdale block. Famous for its turbine engine, it is one of the only four original type 56 cars ever made. Nearly 50 years after shattering the qualifying record at the 1968 Indy 500, this car was fully restored by Clive Chapman and Andy Granatelli’s son, Vince, with meticulous attention to detail and engineering.

Live coverage of the Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction in Scottsdale will be broadcast on Velocity and Discovery during more than 36 hours of live, high-definition TV coverage from Tuesday through Sunday, Jan. 13- 18.

• A never-titled ’69 L89 Corvette convertible (Lot #5050) with only 352 miles highlights Barrett-Jackson’s Corvette lineup
• The fastest street legal Chevrolet Corvette, a ’78 turbine-powered Jet Corvette (Lot #5070) in excellent condition will be among the auction’s most notable consignments
• ’57 (Lot #5057) and ’07 (Lot #5057.1) Corvettes with matching VIN numbers will be sold as a pair in Scottsdale

LOT #5079, a 1969 Chevrolet Corvette L88 Coupe, is just one of several remarkable Corvettes that will cross the block at the 44th Annual Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction in January 2015.

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Dec. 8, 2014 – Barrett-Jackson, The World’s Greatest Collector Car AuctionsTM, will feature a rare docket of collectible Corvettes during its Scottsdale auction Jan. 10-18, 2015, at WestWorld in Scottsdale, Ariz. The predominantly No Reserve auction will feature a remarkable range of Corvettes, including a ’69 L89 Corvette convertible (Lot #5050) that has only 352 original documented miles and won the 2014 NCRS Top Flight Award.

“The Chevrolet Corvette has become an iconic symbol of authentic American performance to fans around the world,” said Craig Jackson, chairman and CEO of Barrett-Jackson. “Since its birth in 1953 in Flint, Mich., its instantly recognizable design is matched by its exhilarating performance. The Corvettes that will cross our block in Scottsdale are a testament that the sports car continues to be a fierce competitor more than 60 years after its introduction.”

The ’69 L89 Corvette convertible (Lot #5050) will be one of the most sought-after vehicles at the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction. With only 352 original miles, this time capsule has never been titled. Original documentation consisting of the Corvette order form, retail buyer’s order form, scheduled price sheet, receipt for payment and the dealer copy of the order are included. The convertible, which has been registered in Kevin Cavanaugh’s L89 registry since 1989, also includes a notarized letter from Steve Honnell verifying originality of car and original miles.

Barrett-Jackson will auction a one-of-a-kind ’78 turbine-powered Jet Corvette (Lot #5070). Engineered by Vince Granatelli and complete with the same type of Pratt & Whitney ST6B turbine engine that powered the 1968 Indy Car, this Corvette graced the cover of Motor Trend Magazine. The fastest street-legal corvette in the world, Granatelli claimed it could go 0-60 mph in 3.2 seconds.

Among the most anticipated consignments is a rare ’69 Chevrolet Corvette L88 2 door coupe (Lot #5049) in excellent condition. The Monaco Orange L88 is one of 116 with gorgeous body-off restoration by world famous Nabor Bros of Houston, Texas. The restoration was complete with aluminum heads, radio delete, power brakes, transistorized ignition, M22, posi-traction, headrests, F41 suspension, J56 brakes, tinted glass, Rallye wheels and black wall F70x15 tires.

Also included in the rare collection is a pair of classic Chevrolet Corvettes, ’57 and ’07 convertibles with matching VINs, which will be sold together. The ’57 Corvette Convertible (Lot #5057) dressed in Venetian Red boasts only 190 miles since its frame-off restoration. The ’07 Corvette Convertible (Lot #5057.1) has only eight original miles and was factory built to mirror the 1957 colors and options, with a VIN number matching that of the ’57 model.

“It’s exciting to see the continued interest in the Corvette,” added Steve Davis, president of Barrett-Jackson. “The car’s impact on the automotive world is unmistakable, which somehow continues with every new generation developed by GM. I’m confident these Corvettes will be a crowd favorite in Scottsdale.”

Corvette’s racing history will also be well represented in Scottsdale with a ’68 Corvette Convertible L88 race car (Lot #5035) built and raced by Don Yenko on the Sunray DX sponsored team. This #2 DX L88 car became Yenko’s personal racer on his way to winning the 1968 SCCA Midwest Division championship. Also featured will be a ’68 Corvette L88 Competition Convertible (Lot #5048); one of three factory-built L88 cars for James Garner’s American International Racing team. This particular L88 was the GT class pole winner in the 1968 Daytona 24 Hour race.

Live coverage of the Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction in Scottsdale will be broadcast on Velocity and Discovery during 36 hours of live, high-definition TV coverage from Tuesday through Sunday, Jan. 13-18.
