Also clad in blue, Lot #1320.1 is a 1995 Corvette ZR1 that began its life as a GM executive car. The 350cid/405 horsepower ‘Vette is one of 13 1995 ZR1s produced in Aqua Blue.

“This is the best offering of Corvettes we’ve ever had at Barrett-Jackson,” added Steve Davis, president of Barrett-Jackson. “With a total of 125 Corvettes ranging in model year from 1954 to 2010, every generation of this American giant will be represented on our auction block.”

Prior to the auction on Thursday, Corvette Market will host its 3rd annual Scottsdale seminar inside The Garage at Barrett-Jackson from 9-11 a.m. Led by Corvette Market publisher Keith Martin, the seminar will include two segments and cover Restoration vs. Preservation, as well as the panel’s picks to Buy, Sell and Hold. Barrett-Jackson’s Diligence Process Aids Authorities In Locating 1971 Plymouth ‘cuda Reported Stolen In 1976

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Jan. 15, 2010 – The Barrett-Jackson Auction Company, which produces “The World’s Greatest Collector Car Auctions™,” announced today that the 1971 Plymouth Hemi ‘Cuda Re-Creation scheduled to be sold as Lot #1246 next week in Scottsdale, Ariz., will not cross the block. The car was removed from the docket after auction company officials uncovered a VIN issue, which led to the discovery that the car had been reported stolen in 1976. The vehicle was scheduled to be sold at No Reserve during the 39th Annual Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction in Scottsdale on Jan. 18-24, 2010, at WestWorld.

As is done with every car scheduled for auction, Barrett-Jackson’s consignment team was in the process of the final steps of its diligence process when the vehicle and all related paperwork arrived onsite for check-in. During this final step of auction preparation, it was discovered that the VIN on the vehicle did not match the VIN on the title provided by the consignor.

“There are a number of legitimate reasons why a car’s VIN may not match the number listed on a title, particularly with older model vehicles that have been around for many years,” said Steve Davis, president of Barrett-Jackson. “There is a chance that a clerical error may have been made on a title transfer at some point or that a door or body panel may have been replaced during the life of the vehicle, which resulted in the original VIN no longer being in place. It’s also not unusual for a VIN plate to be lost or damaged during restoration. We don’t immediately assume there is an insurmountable problem when a VIN doesn’t match up.”

Once the VIN issue was discovered, a Barrett-Jackson representative delivered the vehicle to the Arizona Motor Vehicle Division to request the agency’s input and research assistance in determining how best to resolve the discrepancy. At this stage, if no problem with the car or its history was detected, it would have been possible for the MVD to issue a new Arizona VIN to clear up the issue.

“After we brought the issue to the attention of the local MVD office, it was discovered that the car had been reported stolen in 1976,” continued Davis. “We were then faced with the difficult task of contacting the consignor, Al Jardine, to notify him of the problem. We reached a representative of the consignor late yesterday, and passed on the unfortunate news. We have no reason to believe that this consignor had any prior knowledge of the VIN discrepancy or any knowledge of the stolen vehicle report dating back to 1976.”

Barrett-Jackson’s diligence process is designed to ensure that all customers are treated fairly. The company acts in the best interests of its consignors and its bidders, and always strives to ensure that surprises or problems do not arise for customers after a sale is completed. The process applies to every car sold at Barrett-Jackson, beginning when preliminary consignment requests are submitted months before each auction, and continuing up to the time consigned vehicles arrive onsite.

“Particularly in light of the circumstances that arose with the ‘Buddy Holly’ Impala earlier this week, we’re obviously very disappointed about this situation,” stated Davis. “We regret that this happened, but are gratified that our diligence process uncovered the problem before the car was sold. At that stage, it would have involved another unsuspecting owner in what is clearly a decades-old story.”

Barrett-Jackson has released the vehicle to authorities for further investigation, and the car will not be offered for sale by Barrett-Jackson pending the results of that investigation.

Barrett-Jackson Removes 1958 Chevrolet Impala From Scottsdale Docket Over Questions About Previous Ownership By Buddy Holly

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Jan. 13, 2010 – The Barrett-Jackson Auction Company, producer of “The World’s Greatest Collector Car Auctions™,” announced today that the 1958 Chevrolet Impala scheduled to be sold in Scottsdale, Ariz., will not cross the block. The decision to remove the car from the docket was made due to recent allegations about the provenance of the car, which was represented by the consignor to have belonged to Buddy Holly. The vehicle was to be sold at No Reserve during the 39th Annual Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction in Scottsdale on Jan. 18-24, 2010 at WestWorld.

Barrett-Jackson’s consignment team carries out the final elements of its diligence process when auction cars consigned to the Scottsdale 2010 event arrive onsite for check-in. As a part of this process and the company’s related investigation, questions arose concerning the provenance of the vehicle scheduled to be offered as Lot 1258.2, a 1958 Chevrolet Impala 2 Door Hardtop. Barrett-Jackson has been unable to obtain satisfactory information to resolve the issues that were raised during the company’s investigation; as a result, Lot 1258.2 has been pulled from the auction lineup by Barrett-Jackson.

“Barrett-Jackson is proud of its business practices and dedication to transparency, integrity and fairness in conducting our collector car auctions,” said Steve Davis, president of Barrett-Jackson. “This commitment extends to every customer and car consigned to a Barrett-Jackson auction, regardless of whether the car is scheduled to appear early in the week or it is one of the featured cars of the auction.”

The company’s diligence process is designed to ensure that all customers arrive at Barrett-Jackson knowing they will have a chance to bid on a wide variety of collector vehicles that reflect the current demands in the collector car market. The process begins when preliminary consignment requests are submitted months before each auction, and continues up to the time consigned vehicles arrive onsite.

“While we were disappointed to have to pull such a high profile car from the auction, this was a decision we were willing to make in order to ensure all our customers are provided with a fair, trustworthy forum for buying or selling a collector car,” continued Davis. “Everyone is treated the same at Barrett-Jackson, regardless of whether they regularly consign high profile cars or come to us for the first time with an entry-level vehicle. In the case of this 1958 Impala, after receiving the car onsite and conducting a follow-up investigation, our decision was made.”

Barrett-Jackson’s docket for the 2010 event is among the company’s most ambitious in its 39 year history. Over 1,200 vehicles will be sold at No Reserve of every class and type imaginable.

“From a 1929 Hamilton airplane to an original 1963 Cobra, Hot Rods, pre-war classics and celebrity owned vehicles, there is literally something for everyone to enjoy,” added Davis. “We’ve never had to turn away so many world-class vehicles for consignment. And bidder credential requests have never been so strong. This means that once again, real buyers will be vying for real cars, and getting them at real market prices, only at Barrett-Jackson. So the opportunity to buy or sell a quality vehicle will be ideal.”

Barrett-Jackson And Bobby Chan Announce Strategic Partnership For Retail Stores And Exclusive Merchandise

Scottsdale, Ariz. – January 11, 2010 – The Barrett-Jackson Auction Company, producer of “The World’s Greatest Collector Car Auctions™,” announced today a new strategic partnership with clothing brand Bobby Chan, maker of upscale casual wear for men. Bobby Chan will produce a special collection of Barrett-Jackson branded Bobby Chan merchandise – with a focus on the distinctive color-blocked silk, bamboo and knit shirts the clothier is most famous for – debuting at the 39th Annual Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction, Jan. 18 – 24, 2010, at Westworld of Scottsdale.

The line will be sold in a 2,500 square foot Bobby Chan pop-up store, a fully-functioning retail space that will be located inside the Barrett-Jackson Lifestyle Pavilion. The shop will appear at all four Barrett-Jackson auctions in 2010, which in addition to Scottsdale include West Palm Beach, Fla.; Las Vegas; and Orange County, Calif. The shop is designed to reflect the Bobby Chan brand image of casual elegance while incorporating special artistic elements as a nod to Barrett-Jackson and the collector car culture, and is meant to give the consumer a flavor of the Bobby Chan retail stores located throughout the country. The apparel ranges in price from approx. $65.00 to $145.00.

“We’re thrilled to be able to partner with Bobby Chan in such a monumental way,” said Steve Davis, President of Barrett-Jackson. “Having a Bobby Chan store at our auctions is a huge undertaking, but it speaks to the commitment Bobby Chan has to the Barrett-Jackson customer. Connecting with such a well-respected clothing brand to help us showcase the Barrett-Jackson lifestyle is extremely exciting. I personally am a huge fan and have been wearing Bobby Chan for years.”

Event organizers see the Bobby Chan shop as an important addition to the continuously increasing and evolving lifestyle-, community- and family-focused initiatives introduced over the past several years to create a broader event experience. On average, there are approx. 100 – 300 vendors on-site all days of auction offering a wide range of products and services that enhance the distinctive lifestyle of collector car enthusiasts. Bobby Chan executives believe this partnership is an ideal way to align the companies’ similar target audiences, and will help fill a void in the wardrobe of the men that attend the auctions.

“We’re looking to satisfy a niche for this refined buyer seeking value with a higher-end collection, while being reflective of their personal style choices and unique lifestyle,” said Bobby Granatt, president of Bobby Chan. “We offer clothing that is casual and feels great, but still provides an understated sophistication. Barrett-Jackson fans are our kind of guys, and we’re happy to help them look the best they can while enjoying the hobby they love.”

Future plans include incorporating the Barrett-Jackson brand into existing Bobby Chan retail locations, with the companies working collaboratively on various additional projects. Currently, Bobby Chan is sold in five namesake stores, hundreds of country clubs and specialty shops nationwide, and online at www.bobbychan.com.

“Barrett-Jackson is a lifestyle brand and our vision has been to provide the marketplace with a Barrett-Jackson clothing line through brick-and-mortar retail stores located in desirable geographic locations,” said Craig Jackson, chairman/CEO of Barrett-Jackson. “The Bobby Chan relationship is a big step in that direction.”
