Mecum to Auction Yamaha R1 for Charity at Monterey Event

Mecum Auctions will sell a one-of-a-kind Yamaha YZF-R1 motorcycle at no reserve during their upcoming Mecum Monterey Auction, Aug. 18-20, 2011 at the Hyatt Regency Monterey Hotel & Spa on the Del Monte Golf Course.

The R1 motorcycle will cross the Mecum auction block, Lot T190.1, on Thursday, Aug. 18 at 6pm PST. Designated “auctioneers” for this bike are celebrity Jay Leno and three-time 500cc world champion motorcycle racer “King” Kenny Roberts. The special GYTR-equipped R1, ridden by “King” Kenny in several parade laps around the famed Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca circuit last weekend, features a unique 50th anniversary red/white paint scheme and various genuine Yamaha custom performance accessories.

“The proceeds for this Yamaha R1 will go directly to Bailey’s Café, a fantastic school of the arts for kids in the Bronx,” said Jay Leno. “Once the bidding is over, I’m sure that the performance of this R1 will only be matched by that of the kids in this great school!”

“This is an outstanding addition to what has shaped up to be considered the greatest collection of motorcycles ever offered at auction, and to have both Kenny and Jay involved with helping the charity puts it over the top.” said Gavin Trippe, who heads up Mecum’s motorcycle division.

Mecum’s daytime Monterey Auction is open to buyers, sellers and spectators with free admission and convenient general parking. Attendees can be part of the action while the auction broadcasts live on Mecum’s national TV show “Mecum Auto Auction: Muscle Cars & More” on Discovery Communications’ HD Theater.

Mecum Brings Low-Mileage, Italian Barn Find Trio to Annual Monterey Auction

Mecum Auctions announces three super low-mileage Italian classics will be offered at their third annual Monterey Auction: a 1974 Ferrari Dino 246 GTS with 2,910 miles; a 1972 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona with 9,752 miles; and a 1977 Maserati Bora Coupe with just 978 miles.

Stored for nearly 40 years in a Dallas-area storage building, these vehicles were a rare find under layers of Texas dust.

The '72 Daytona, generally regarded as one of Ferrari's all-time best GT cars, boasts a GT Berlinetta with a four cam (twin overhead cam) V12. The Daytona has a traditional front engine, rear wheel drive layout, an independent suspension front and rear, and a 5-speed manual gearbox mounted in the rear to improve weight distribution. The 4.4L V12 Ferrari engine, topped by six Weber carburetors, produces 347 HP - enough to propel the two-passenger Daytona from 0-60 MPH in 5.3 seconds and achieve a top speed of 174 mph.

Ferrari created the Dino to produce a higher production, less expensive sports car featuring a V6 engine. The Dino first utilized Ferrari's system of coding the engine type and displacement into the model number; Thus, the Dino 246GT decodes as a 2.4L, 6-cylinder GT (Gran Turismo).

The Bora 4.9 was Maserati's mid-engine super car, introduced in 1974 and continued in limited numbers (275) through 1978. A closed coupe, the car features a wedge shape styled by Giorgetto Giugiaro, famous for the critically acclaimed Maserati Ghibli and the stunning Iso Grifo. The 275 horsepower 4.9L V8 gives the Bora the ability to hit a top speed of 177 MPH.

Serving as the only daytime auction on the peninsula, Mecum's Monterey Auction will feature 750 vehicles representing all makes and models crossing the auction block. The auction - which is open to buyers, sellers and spectators with free admission and convenient general parking - takes place Aug. 18-20, 2011 at the Hyatt Regency Monterey Hotel & Spa on the Del Monte Golf Course.

Attendees can be part of the action while the auction broadcasts live on Mecum's national TV show "Mecum Auto Auction: Muscle Cars & More" on Discovery Communications' HD Theater. For complete auction details or to consign your car today, visit www.Mecum.com or call 815.568.8888.

Barrett-Jackson Provides Collector Vehicles For New NBC Primetime Game Show “It’s Worth What?”

Show to Premiere on NBC July 19 at 8-9 ET

SCOTTSDALE, AZ July, 12, 2011Barrett-Jackson Auction Company, The World’s Greatest Collector Car Auctions™, announced today that they served as the exclusive provider of the collector vehicles featured in the new Merv Griffin Entertainment game show “It’s Worth What?” hosted by popular comedian Cedric “The Entertainer”. The show will premiere on NBC on Tuesday, July 19 (8-9 p.m. ET).

“It’s Worth What?” is a game show that taps into America’s curiosity for cost and value, from the hidden gems found in one’s attic to some of the most exotic valuables from around the globe. Pairs of contestants are taken through a series of challenges that escalate in level of difficulty, tasking them with discerning the price of the items in each round. If they successfully complete the challenges, each pair of contestants can win up to $1 million.

Drawing on Barrett-Jackson’s expertise in the collector car market, the show’s producers sought to include unique collector vehicles in each of the nine episodes of the show. Some vehicles featured in the show were sold at previous Barrett-Jackson auctions, while others are scheduled to be sold at upcoming Barrett-Jackson events. Several of the featured vehicles were from the private collections of company Chairman and CEO Craig Jackson and company President Steve Davis. The vehicles provided by Barrett-Jackson and featured in “It’s Worth What?” ranged from the most modern and stunning of sports cars to those that are classic and one-of-a kind.

In addition to providing the unique vehicles featured in each episode, Barrett-Jackson also served as the exclusive provider of automotive memorabilia items for the game show. Items included were historic and rarely seen collectibles.

“We were thrilled to be asked to participate in Merv Griffin Entertainment’s newest game show, as it provides a unique platform for Barrett-Jackson to showcase some of the world’s most incredible collector cars while introducing our name to millions of viewers,” said Craig Jackson, Chairman and CEO of Barrett-Jackson.  “Merv Griffin Entertainment, NBC and Barrett-Jackson share the same approach to delivering unparalleled entertainment, making this a perfect partnership.”

In addition to involvement on the television show itself, Barrett-Jackson, the collector vehicles, and auto memorabilia featured in the games will also have a presence on the show’s web page on NBC.com and will be included in social media promotions that are connected with the show.

“Several of Barrett-Jackson’s top customers were selected to have their vehicles featured on the show,” said Steve Davis, president of Barrett-Jackson. “This was a wonderful opportunity to offer millions of viewers the chance to see some rare vehicles that are typically kept in private collections. The team at Merv Griffin built an amazing set that served as a beautiful backdrop for our rolling pieces of art, and we know viewers will find the show both fun and educational.”

“It’s Worth What?” is produced by Merv Griffin Entertainment. The series is executive produced and created by Roy Bank (“Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?”) and Lara Spencer (“Good Morning America”).  Cedric “The Entertainer,” Barry Poznick (“Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?), John Stevens (“Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?”) and Ron Ward (“Million Dollar Mind Game”) also serve as executive producers.

“Gathering the most spectacular cars in the world for this show was an absolute must, but also a nearly impossible and daunting task to accomplish on our own.  By partnering with Barrett-Jackson we not only knew WHERE to go to find the world’s most amazing automobiles but also the guidance for WHAT is out there to create a ‘wow factor’ in every episode,” says co-creator, Roy Bank.  “They were the perfect partner and brought the show to a whole new level!”

The deal was sourced and secured on behalf of Barrett-Jackson by ROAR, a Beverly Hills-based entertainment and media-focused management company.
