Omaha, Neb., April 9, 2012 – A wrapped special-edition 2011 Ford Shelby GT500, signed by veterans, their family members and supporters, was sold – twice – at the Barrett-Jackson Palm Beach auction April 7 and raised $1,000,200 for Wounded Warriors Family Support.
“Wounded Warriors Family Support is a small, independent non-profit organization that provides support to the families of U.S. Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines who have been wounded, injured or killed during combat operations,” said Col. John Folsom, founder. “We are so grateful for the generous support of the auction participants and the American people. We are especially grateful for the team at Barrett-Jackson for their tremendous help. The money raised through this auction will enable us to help military families in so many ways.”
At the auction, Col. Folsom spoke to the crowd about the hundreds of signatures on the car. President Barack Obama’s signature is not among them, he said, but the car is signed by people from all across America.
“I am saddened that a handful of detractors have unfairly taken my comment about ‘real Americans’ out of context to start a controversy,” Col. Folsom said. “I meant to say that the car was signed by Americans who were not celebrities. I was not intending to be disrespectful to our President.”
In fact, Col. Folsom has posted comments thanking Mrs. Obama for her work with military families, and he was invited to meet with members of her staff in June of 2010 about Wounded Warrior Family Support programs.
On June 25, 2012, Col. Folsom will begin the third annual nationwide High Five Tour with a 2012 GT500 Super Snake. On the 48-state tour, Col. Folsom intends to meet as many Americans as possible and thank them for their support of military families who have given so much.
“The High Five Tour will make a stop in Washington, D.C., on July 7. I would be honored to have President Obama sign the 2012 car,” Col. Folsom added.

SCOTTSDALE, AZ. – April 10, 2012 – Barrett-Jackson Auction Company, The World’s Greatest Collector Car Auctions™, announced today that its 10th Annual Palm Beach Event, held April 5-7 at the South Florida Fairgrounds, generated more than $18 million in sales of Classics, Muscle Cars, Hot Rods, Resto-Mods, Exotics and Contemporary Collectibles in front of a crowd of over 55,000.
Both attendance and sales figures were up from last year. The three-day event, which featured nearly 450 vehicles, was also enjoyed by millions across the country on SPEED, with more than 20 hours of live coverage. Attendance and sales figures exceeded last year’s numbers, further signifying an economic upswing.
The 10th Annual Palm Beach Auction also brought in a large number of new bidders with 42 percent having registered to bid at the event for the first time. Additionally, Barrett-Jackson saw some fantastic individual sales, including the following vehicles:
“We had a very successful 10th anniversary in Palm Beach,” said Craig Jackson, chairman and CEO, Barrett-Jackson. “I’m thrilled to see a continuation in the recovery of the economy. Barrett-Jackson auctions have consistently been a strong leading indicator of the economic climate and this year has proven to be a very positive trend.”
Barrett-Jackson also helped to raise nearly $1.8 million for local and national charitable organizations that included Wounded Warriors Family Support, The Darrell Gwynn Foundation and many more. The charitable efforts began during the Barrett-Jackson Opening Night Gala on April 4 where a silent auction benefitting The Darrell Gwynn Foundation raised $55,000. Eight charitable vehicles were sold in total and Barrett-Jackson waived its consignment fees and buyer’s premiums for each one.
“I’m a big fan of Palm Beach and the collectors who come here from all over the East Coast,” said Barrett-Jackson President Steve Davis. “The fact that we see more enthusiasts here every year is a testament to their dedication to the hobby.”

Philanthropic Deed nets $1.7 Million for The Armed Forces Foundation
SCOTTSDALE, ARIZ. – April 9, 2012 – Steve Davis, President of the Barrett-Jackson, The World’s Greatest Collector Car Auctions™, was recently honored at the 8th Annual Armed Forces Congressional Gala Dinner with the prestigious “Congressman Bill and Mrs. Beverly Young Humanitarian of the Year Award,” for the donation of his personal custom 1964 Ford Fairlane.
Donating for a Good Cause
Davis donated the vehicle to be auctioned for The Armed Forces Foundation, an organization that helps military members and families in times of need, at the 2011 Barrett-Jackson Las Vegas Collector Car Auction this past September. Entrepreneur Ron Pratte successfully bid on the car for $700,000 and then promptly and altruistically donated the car back to the Armed Forces Foundation, to be bid on again at the 2012 Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction in January.
In January, Ted McIntyre, CEO of Louisiana-based Marine Turbine Technologies, successfully bid on the Fairlane for $1 million. The reaction at both auctions was beyond enthusiastic and Barrett-Jackson waived all consignment fees at both auctions.
McIntyre joined Davis at the who’s who of Washington D.C. event on March 27 where he shared the “Congressman Bill and Mrs. Beverly Young Humanitarian of the Year Award”. During the event, in front of more than 70 members of congress, Army and Navy personnel including Generals and other high-ranking military officers, McIntyre announced that that he would be donating the car back to the Armed Forces Foundation and it would be sold once again at a future Barrett-Jackson auction.
A Commitment to Philanthropy
This donation is just the latest in Barrett-Jackson’s strong commitment to philanthropy. The company has raised more than $39 million for various charitable organizations since 2006, and more than $45 million since its first auction. At the most recent Scottsdale auction in January, Barrett-Jackson raised nearly $5.9 million for at least 20 charitable causes.
“I am beyond humbled to be a recipient of this prestigious award,” said Davis. “To see the outpouring of support we generated for our troops and their families was spectacular. I am so honored to be able to help those who fight for our country; it is these men and women who make me proud to be an American.”

Automotive Great Makes Significant Return to the Hobby with World’s Greatest Collector Car Auction
SCOTTSDALE, ARIZ. (April 9, 2012) – Barrett-Jackson, The World’s Greatest Collector Car Auctions™, announced that it has contracted collector car legend Rick Cole to serve as an Automotive Specialist. The announcement was made live on SPEED from the auction block during Barrett-Jackson’s Palm Beach event this past weekend.
Best known as the hobby’s “Auctioneer to the Stars”, Los Angeles-based Cole will utilize his vast experience in the auction arena to help Barrett-Jackson source consignments for collector cars and add his 35+ years of expertise and knowledge to find some of most highly-collectible automobiles and automobile collections. Cole will work hand in hand with Gary Bennett, Vice President of Consignments.
This won’t be Cole’s first encounter with Barrett-Jackson. In fact, he began his relationship with the auction company at the age of 16, when he befriended Tom Barrett and Russ Jackson.
“Russ and I would shovel gravel together to help keep dust off all the cars stored on a dirt lot,” Cole recalls fondly. “The Jacksons have always been like family to me, but beyond family, came respect for each other’s auction business. As my company grew successfully, Barrett-Jackson did as well; we’ve seen each other through a lot.”
Cole’s long history with collector car auctions started in 1978 when he established Rick Cole Auctions. He held hundreds of successful annual auto auctions in Los Angeles, Newport Beach, Palm Springs and even originated the first collector car auction during the famed Monterey auto week, selling more than 20,000 high-end and highly-sought after classic vehicles throughout his career.
In fact, long before million dollar cars were considered an achievable dream, Cole sold over a dozen vehicles for more than $1 million apiece and in 1988, Cole auctioned a Ferrari 250P racing car for a then unheard of $2.8 million.
Cole has also helped buy personal vehicles for celebrities such as Steve McQueen, Frank Sinatra, Robin Williams, Johnny Carson and Sylvester Stallone to name a few. He’s also sold numerous television and movie cars such as a James Bond DB-5 “007” Aston Martin from the movie “Goldfinger”, a Batmobile for creator George Barris, the 1937 Buick convertible featured in the final scene “Casablanca” and the cream-colored 1953 Roadmaster from “Rainman” to name a few.
Eventually, Cole sold his auction company to RM Auctions, a company that to this day still carries on the tradition of his famous Monterey Sports Car Auction.
“We couldn’t be more honored to have Rick join the Barrett-Jackson team,” said Craig Jackson, Chairman and CEO of Barrett-Jackson. “Rick comes with a truly unique set of qualifications – those, combined with his decades of experience, will help to ensure that Barrett-Jackson will always provide buyers with the finest vehicles on the market. I’ve been associated with Rick for many years and not only is he a good friend, but he personifies what Barrett-Jackson is about: honesty, integrity and a commitment to the business; we welcome him to the team.”

Decades-Long Discussion Concludes With Decisive Decision To Improve WestWorld, Solidify Auction Future In Scottsdale
SCOTTSDALE, ARIZONA. MARCH 21, 2012. It has been talked about for years. Now, thanks to collaboration among Scottsdale Mayor Jim Lane, a majority of the Scottsdale City Council, city staff, Barrett-Jackson, the Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show, Arizona Sun Circuit Quarter Horse Show and others a $40 million expansion of the Tony Nelssen Equestrian Center is a reality.
WestWorld of Scottsdale, site of Scottsdale’s signature horse and horsepower events, has seen a variety of improvements recently, but none bigger than Tuesday night’s landmark decision.
It will create expanded opportunities for new and existing equestrian shows and, for the “World’s Greatest Collector Car Auctions™,” a permanent, main auction arena, replacing the 120,000 square foot tent now dominating WestWorld.
“For over a decade we have been talking with the City of Scottsdale about a permanent facility like this in order to make what has always been a desire for a long-term agreement with our hometown,” said Barrett-Jackson CEO Craig Jackson. “Thanks to the leadership of this Mayor and Council it finally got done.”
Jackson said the decision is terrific news for the event’s guests, bidders, consignors, vendors and sponsors.
“We get to replace a challenging, temporary tent with a better, permanent auction arena. We can park fewer cars on the polo field with more on higher ground. And, this will allow us to realize a long-time goal of building our new corporate headquarters and car museum on private land I own next to WestWorld,” Jackson said.
Jackson said his relationship with the City of Scottsdale and equestrian users at WestWorld has never been better. While Barrett-Jackson will continue to erect hundreds of thousands of square feet of tents for automobiles, vendors and lifestyle components, WestWorld’s new facility will allow Barrett-Jackson to save money on certain, temporary infrastructure costs, amounts that will now be used to help pay for the expanded Equestrian Center, as the Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show and Arizona Sun Circuit Quarter Horse Show are doing.
The Barrett-Jackson Auction Company was established in 1971 and headquartered in Scottsdale, Ariz., Barrett-Jackson specializes in providing products and services to classic and collector car owners, astute collectors and automotive enthusiasts around the world. Mecum Auctions will celebrate its Silver anniversary at Dana Mecum’s 25th Original Spring Classic Auction. More than 2,100 vehicles will cross the auction block May 15-20, 2012, at the Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis, Ind.
Over six massive action packed days; collector cars, motorcycles, and road art from all genres will be displayed in nearly 1 million square feet of buildings and tents during the world’s largest collector car auction. Since the very beginning, Mecum’s Original Spring Classic has always been the industry’s epicenter for the world’s finest muscle car offerings and 2012 is absolutely no exception. Some of this year’s main attractions include a 1967 Chevrolet Yenko Camaro (Lot S134), one of less than 10 known to exist and the only Butternut Yellow example to have survived the test of time. The 1963 Corvette ZO6 (Lot S165) piloted by the legendary Mickey Thompson at Bonneville, a fully restored 1968 L88 Convertible (Lot S188), and the very last L88 Corvette (Lot S233) to roll down the assembly line highlight the incredible line up of Corvettes to be offered.
On Saturday May 19th, NHRA drag racing legends Don “The Snake” Prudhomme and “TV” Tommy Ivo will watch their history making dragsters take center stage. Prudhomme will offer the record breaking 1982 Pontiac Trans Am “Pepsi Challenger” (Lot S182) from his private collection, and the 1974 Streamlined Top Fuel Dragster (Lot S200) piloted and more famously crashed by Tommy Ivo will go up for sale just moments later.
While the success and exponential growth of Mecum’s Original Spring Classic is most certainly the result of dedicated hard work and customer service, Dana Mecum candidly comments, “This is what I envisioned my auction to be in the beginning, it took 25 years for everyone else to catch up!”
Dana Mecum’s 25th Original Spring Classic Auction is open to the general public with tickets available at the gate for only $15. Gates open daily at 8 a.m. Eastern Time. Mecum Auctions has consigned the impressive MV Agusta Collection to their 2012 auction in Monterey, California comprised of 71 machines ranging from a 1946 MV 98 “3 Velocita” race model, to a 2007 MV F4 1000/312 Bonneville. This one-of-a-kind gathering of exquisite motorcycles is the result of collector Gary Kohs’ lifelong mission to acquire only the very finest examples of what many consider to be the “Ferrari of the motorcycle world,” and has assembled an amazing collection of Count Giovanni Agusta’s legacy of rolling Italian art. This unprecedented offering at the Hyatt Regency Monterey Hotel and Spa on Saturday August 18, 2012 will be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to acquire one of the finest motorcycle collections in the world as a single lot on the auction block.
“A collection of this scale, depth, and quality is a rare accomplishment worthy of international celebration,” says Gavin Trippe, motorcycle division manager at Mecum Auctions. “It is essentially a complete museum exhibit poised for showcasing MV Agusta’s mark of excellence that can be displayed in less than 5,000 square feet of space. We are pleased that Mr. Kohs has entrusted Mecum to offer his world-class collection at our auction in Monterey. Headlined by the 1953/54 ex-works 125 Grand Prix Racer, winner of the Isle of Man TT, virtually every model of motorcycle, race bike, scooter, and agricultural tricycle from the MV factory is represented. This could easily be considered the opportunity of a lifetime.”
Collector and enthusiast Gary Kohs comments, “This is not just a collection of motorcycles, this is a collection of art, and I’m thrilled that Dana Mecum and his staff agree that keeping it together as one is so important. MV Agusta is the only marque that can truly represent the post-war history of the motorcycle, and I look forward to sharing it all with the international motorcycle community.”
The MV Agusta Collection will be on display for preview during the month of May in Indianapolis, Ind., as well as Monterey, Calif. in July and August during MotoGP at Laguna Seca, and will remain on display in Monterey until the auction Aug. 16-18.
