HIGHLIGHTS:

  • $108,766,069 gross sales – A 17% increase over 2012
  • 300,000 in attendance
  • Charity cars – 21 total for $5,005,000

Scottsdale, Ariz. – Jan. 22, 2013Barrett-Jackson Auction Company, The World’s Greatest Collector Car Auctions, generated nearly $109 Million in gross sales of rare, high-end collectible vehicles, exotics, customs, classics, hot rods and resto-mods during its 42nd  annual Arizona auction at WestWorld of Scottsdale, Jan 13-20, 2013. This sale was on par with the 2007 Barrett-Jackson auction that also generated nearly $109 Million in gross sales.

The 2013 Scottsdale auction also set two world records with the largest number of No Reserve vehicles offered at one auction, as well as the largest-ever Barrett-Jackson auction measured by the number of cars sold. In addition to the two auction records, Barrett-Jackson set two world records for individual vehicle sales. (Lot #5034) a 1956 Chrysler Diablo Concept Convertible sold for a record $1.375 Million and (Lot #5019) a 1947 Talbot-Lago T-26 Grand Sport sold for a record $2.035 Million. Both were among the superb Salon Collection, Barrett-Jackson’s premium selection of blue chip collectible vehicles.

“This has made a mark in history for Barrett-Jackson, both in numbers and in showmanship. There has never been an auction as entertaining or as personal as this one,” said Craig Jackson, Chairman and CEO, Barrett-Jackson. “We love that enthusiasts of all kinds have contributed to this sense of charity and community. With a start like this, we can only expect big things for the rest 2013.”

It was clear from the cheers of the crowd and the final sales price throughout the Salon Collection, that the collector car market continues to rise and Barrett-Jackson retains its stronghold within the industry. In fact, reports in 2012 showed a 33 percent increase in the value of collector cars, which was proven once more by the company’s success in Scottsdale.

Overall, the Salon Collection’s presence was far from subtle, selling at a total of $29.2 Million. Within this group of rare and highly coveted vehicles, Hollywood icons such as the 1966 Original #1 Batmobile (Lot #5037) by renowned customizer, George Barris, sold at an astonishing $4.62 Million. Following the Batmobile in top sales was Clark Gable’s breathtaking 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing Coupe (Lot #5001), which sold at $2.035 Million, a price also achieved by the record-breaking Talbot-Lago.

Each of the top 10 sales exceeded $1 Million. Additional milestones include:

  • Lot #5004  1934    Duesenberg J Murphy LWB Custom Beverly Sedan              $1,430,000.00
  • Lot #5007  1929    Isotta Fraschini Tipo 8A SS Castagna Roadster                     $1,320,000.00
  • Lot #5025  1971    Plymouth Hemi ‘Cuda Convertible                                            $1,320,000.00
  • Lot #5016  1949    Delahaye Type 175 Saoutchik Coupe de Ville                        $1,210,000.00

This year also brought the largest offering of Shelby vehicles at one event in honor of one of the world’s greatest automotive icons, Carroll Shelby. 48 Shelby automobiles were auctioned off at No Reserve including (Lot #5036) a 1966 Shelby GT350 Fastback which sold for $225,000, (Lot #5023) a 1965 Shelby GT350 Fastback which sold for $220,000 and (Lot #5024) a 1967 Shelby GT500 Fastback which sold for $175,000.

Beyond the vehicle sales, a record number of committed attendees from around the world included buyers, consignors and enthusiasts. Despite the unusually cold temperatures, 300,000 attended Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale.

The Scottsdale charity vehicles helped to raise over $5 Million for charities that benefit children, military personnel, medical research and community support. As a result of the company’s 42 years of dedication to philanthropy, Barrett-Jackson has raised a total of over $53 Million to date. Scottsdale highlights included the sale of (Lot #3016), the first production Chevrolet Corvette Stingray which sold for $1 Million to benefit Detroit-based College for Creative Studies. A 1969 Ford Bronco Custom SUV (Lot #3020) also sold for $500,000 to benefit the Armed Forces Foundation.

“We are proud and honored to have sold some of the most unique and impressive vehicles ever offered at Barrett-Jackson, as well as to support some of our nation’s most important causes,” said Steve Davis, President of Barrett-Jackson. “No two auctions are ever the same, and Scottsdale 2013 proved that the quality and diversity of our collections only intensify over the years. We are thrilled that our charitable sales again raised millions, including $500,000 to the Armed Forces Foundation during our Sunday offering, a cause very close to my heart. ”

Barrett-Jackson Cruises North, Launches New Auction At Hot August Nights In Reno, Nev. Aug. 8-10, 2013

SCOTTSDALE, ARIZ. (January 20, 2013) – Today, during the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction, a groundbreaking partnership was announced that brings The World’s Greatest Collector Car Auctions™ to the base of the Sierra Nevadas to join the world’s premiere classic car and nostalgia festival. The inaugural Hot August Nights Auction Presented by Barrett-Jackson will take place in Reno Tahoe, Aug. 8-10, 2013. This event marks a historic partnership between two of the most recognized names in the classic and collector car industry.

The new partnership between Barrett-Jackson and Hot August Nights will offer fans and customers of both the classic car event and collector car auctions a weeklong opportunity to celebrate and revel in some of the most recognizable and historic automobiles in the world. Not only will buyers be able to bid on and purchase from Barrett-Jackson’s famous selection of collector cars, but now they can take them right from the auction block to the streets of Reno Tahoe to participate in one of Hot August Nights’ famous cruises or show-n-shines.

“The only missing piece in Hot August Nights’ successful puzzle was a Barrett-Jackson Auction,” said Craig Jackson, Chairman and CEO of Barrett-Jackson. “Our collectors in Canada, Seattle, San Francisco and the Silicon Valley have been asking — for decades — for an auction in their region. The partnership with Hot August Nights provides the perfect atmosphere of automotive passion to make that happen.”

Hot August Nights Reno Tahoe came as an opportunity for Barrett-Jackson and signifies the next evolution in its series of collector car auctions around the U.S. The auction quickly outgrew the Orange County Fairgrounds, expanding beyond both the site and the tent that the company had to bring in. In a move that will further improve its organization, Barrett-Jackson selected Hot August Nights to serve its buyers in California, the Pacific Northwest and the Southwest, as well as the audience that already attends the Reno Tahoe event.

“Orange County has been good to Barrett-Jackson and Southern California will remain an important market for us,” said Steve Davis, president of Barrett-Jackson. “Though it is time to expand our physical footprint, we do value our partnership with the City of Costa Mesa and the OC Fair and Event Center.”

This isn’t the first time that Barrett-Jackson has had to evolve in order to meet growth demands. From 2001 to 2004, Barrett-Jackson held a Southern California auction at the Petersen Automotive Museum  and then due to popular demand  returned to Southern California with the Orange County Auction in 2010.

Now in its 27th year, Hot August Nights combines the classic cars and classic sounds of the 50s, 60s and 70s creating the world’s largest event dedicated to “celebrating America’s love affair with cars and rock ‘n’ roll.” The event draws hundreds of thousands of visitors each year to northern Nevada providing them the opportunity to participate in organized cruises, drag races, show-n-shines, concerts and more.

The move is also a great way to extend car culture and convenience to Barrett-Jackson fans and bidders attending the auction at Hot August Nights. This allows them to easily proceed into the various automotive activities that follow in Monterey, surrounding the world-renowned Pebble Beach Concours d’ Elegance.

“Since 1986, Hot August Nights has evolved into one of the most celebrated classic car entertainment experiences in the world and has become synonymous with the Reno Tahoe community,” said Tony Marini, executive director of Hot August Nights. “Over the past two years we’ve had the opportunity to work with some of the businesses and companies we admire most in the automobile industry to take this event to the next level. Bringing Barrett-Jackson and its loyal fan base to Hot August Nights creates a long-term partnership that will further establish both brands as the leaders in their respected fields.”

Hot August Nights Auction Presented by Barrett-Jackson will be held Aug. 8-10, 2013 at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center. Consignments are being accepted now and tickets will be available in Spring 2013.

“Hot August Nights has firmly entrenched itself in the community fabric of northern Nevada exposing our region to fans from all over the world,” said Reno Mayor Bob Cashell, who also serves on the board of directors for Hot August Nights. “To bring a highly reputable name like Barrett-Jackson to our community, further establishes Hot August Nights and Reno Tahoe as a top destination for car enthusiasts and leisure travelers alike. “

For more information about Barrett-Jackson and to purchase tickets to the event, visit www.barrett-jackson.com or call (480) 421-6694. For more information on Hot August Nights and to register for the event, visit www.hotaugustnights.net or call (775) 356-1956.

Original 2.9L Straight 6 with Dual SU Carburetors

One of only 6,113 BJ7’s produced in ’62, this Austin Healey was built in August 1962 and shipped to Germany on September 7 1962. It was sold through the Donald Healey Company which held the rights to sell cars to the U.S. Forces stationed in Germany. An officer of the U.S. Forces purchased the car while stationed in Germany. Both the officer and the Healey remained in Germany for several years before returning to Oklahoma. The car passed through several owners in Oklahoma, before going to California, then Canada in 2006 for restoration.

Every mechanical system was rebuilt or replaced using the best available components. The chassis was rebuilt using many new parts, and the body panels were metal finished to perfection before being carefully fitted to the car. The body was then painted in its original color of Old English White with Crimson Accents. The interior was then redone in its original color of Red Connolly Leather perfectly complementing the exterior paint scheme. The legendary 2,912 cc straight six engine, derived from BMC C-Series engines, is adorned with twin SU Carburetors and makes 134 HP and 167 foot pounds. Paired with a 4 speed manual with overdrive, this combination was capable of 114 MPH!
