Mecum Auctions – the largest collector car auction company in the world – will introduce a new auction to its already vast 2014 lineup extending its reach further into the East Coast. With 12 classic and collector car auctions and four vintage tractor auctions on the 2014 docket, Mecum will take the action to Harrisburg, Penn., in July for three days with an expected 1,000 cars crossing the auction block.
Set for July 24-26, this new auction will be held at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex & Expo Center which encompasses nearly one million square feet of indoor floor space and is one of the premier event locations in Pennsylvania.
“People have been asking for years when we would host an auction on the East Coast,” commented Dana Mecum, president and founder of Mecum Auctions. “We’re excited to reach a great community of classic and collector car fans that have long been there. This new location is truly a mecca for many collector car enthusiasts and we look forward to becoming a staple in the impressive lineup of car events already held in the area.”
“We see the Mecum Auction as the final crowned jewel, completing a royal list of annual events now hosted in our region for automobile enthusiasts," said Mary Smith, President of the Hershey Harrisburg Regional Visitors Bureau. “Collectors and connoisseurs know and love the Hershey Harrisburg Region for such world-class car events as The AACA Eastern Regional Fall Meet, held in Hershey since 1955 and now considered one of the largest antique automobile shows and flea markets in the U.S.; and most recently for The Elegance at Hershey, a charity event at The Hotel Hershey featuring a Concours d’Elegance and vintage racing."
Mecum’s newest addition and the Hershey Harrisburg area’s crowned jewel event will open for consignments in February of 2014. Visit Mecum.com for the latest news on all of Mecum’s auctions and events. Mecum’s website also features a live stream of each auction in addition to daily updates of the most recent consignments including photos and descriptions of each vehicle. Mecum Auctions will offer a rare piece of celebrity history at the second annual Anaheim auction this Nov. 21-23 at the Anaheim Convention Center – a motorcycle once owned and ridden by “The King of Cool” Steve McQueen.
As the highest paid actor of his time, McQueen is best remembered for his roles in movies like “The Great Escape,” “The Getaway,” “Bullitt” and “The Thomas Crown Affair.” In addition to his acting career, McQueen was an avid motorcycle and racecar enthusiast and a participant in off-road motorcycle racing. By the time of his death in 1980, McQueen had built up a personal collection of more than 100 classic rides.
While a part of McQueen’s vast motorcycle collection, this 1938 Harley-Davidson WLD (Lot S138.1) is more than just one of a hundred, it’s one that McQueen actually rode, and it is now set to ride Mecum’s red carpet in Anaheim.
“There’s a big difference between a bike that McQueen owned and bike that McQueen rode,” commented Mecum Auctions’ Founder and President Dana Mecum.
The original and unrestored motorcycle was sold at the 1984 Steve McQueen estate sale at the Imperial Palace Hotel in Las Vegas. This rare Solo Sport edition features a Silver Tan and Sunshine Blue paint scheme and shows just 21,000 miles on its odometer. McQueen’s fully documented ownership will accompany the sale in addition to his personal tools found wrapped in a piece of denim in the frame-mounted tool box.
This storied piece of McQueen history will cross Mecum’s auction block on Saturday, Nov. 23 in Anaheim. Doors to the event open each day at 8 a.m. and portions of all three days of the auction will be broadcast live on Discovery’s Velocity Network. Mecum will also present a live stream of the entire auction at www.mecum.com. Mecum’s website is updated daily with the latest consignments including detailed descriptions and photographs of the vehicles. To view the list, to consign a vehicle or to register as a bidder for the Anaheim auction, visit www.mecum.com or call (262) 275-5050.

PAIR OF 2014 “LINDA VAUGHN LV‐1” CAMAROS DESIGNED BY DOC WATSON
UNVEILED AT BARRETT-JACKSON DISPLAY AT 2013 SEMA SHOW
First Two Production LV‐1 Vehicles Set to Cross the Block at Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale to Benefit Dreamakers Charity, January 2014
SCOTTSDALE, ARIZ. (November 8, 2013) – A pair of custom, 2014 “Linda Vaughn LV-1” Chevrolet Camaros designed by legendary vehicle developer Jack “Doc” Watson, the creator of the first Hurst/Olds in 1968, were unveiled Wednesday, live from the Barrett-Jackson display at the 2013 SEMA Show.
The very collectible limited edition LV-1 marks the first time the high performance industry has ever named a vehicle program after a woman. It was created to celebrate Watson’s 50 years of friendship with Linda Vaughn, the “First Lady of Motorsports,” her career and dedication to the performance industry and fans everywhere, as well as a salute to Chevrolet Performance.
During the unveiling, the Barrett-Jackson team also announced that the first two production LV-1s will cross the auction block at the company’s 43rd annual Scottsdale auction in January to benefit Dreamakers, a non‐profit organization dedicated to providing fundraising for worthwhile charitable organizations through marketing and product development of automotive and technology related programs. This year proceeds will be directed to IKAN, The International Kids Alliance Network, a 501(c)(3) dedicated to exciting teaching tools for kids and stomping out illiteracy.
“Each year SEMA brings together the best of the best in the automotive industry and we were honored to unveil this incredible car with such a legendary duo as Doc Watson and Linda Vaughn,” said Craig Jackson, chairman and CEO, Barrett-Jackson. “We continue to raise the bar in our charitable efforts and can’t wait to see what the Camaros will bring as they cross the block in Scottsdale for a wonderful cause.”
The Dreamakers team also revealed plans for an extensive tour at some of the most prestigious shows in the country, including national and local cruises and races. There will also be special presentations with exclusive television programs and webcasts during which Vaughn and Watson will tell stories, share insights and reveal secrets, while discussing the behind the scenes development, history and legends of the automotive enthusiast world.
Sure to be just as legendary as the original Hurst vehicles, the LV-1 Camaros will be produced in a limited run of 500 vehicles presented in Doc’s iconic Hurst/Oldsmobile color combinations. Only 50 white and gold convertibles, 50 black and gold convertibles, 200 white and gold coupes and 200 black and gold coupes will be offered. Much like Linda Vaughn turned Miss Hurst Golden Shifter into the First Lady of Motorsports, the LV‐1 redefines the character and collectability of very special vehicles. These 2014 Camaros are fully certified and validated, and will carry complete warranty and service policies.
“As a car that was designed by the one-and-only man who brought us the iconic Hurst/Olds, Doc’s LV-1 Camaro is sure to add to the excitement of our Scottsdale event,” said Barrett-Jackson President Steve Davis. “It’s these type of unique vehicles that allow us to donate so much to such great organizations across the country, and whoever walks away with these Camaros is going to be a part of history.”

NOV 5, 2013 | LAS VEGAS
- KISS bassist Gene Simmons and his wife, actress Shannon Tweed, unveil custom 1956 Ford F-100 pickup
- Custom 1956 Ford F-100, aptly named Snakebit, features styling cues that pay homage to classic Shelby Mustangs; power is supplied by Ford’s supercharged 5.4-liter V8 engine
- Snakebit will be auctioned next year by Barrett-Jackson, with proceeds going to help fund a children’s hospital in Tweed’s hometown in Canada
Snakebit, a custom 1956 Ford F-100 with styling cues that salute the great Shelby Mustangs, was unveiled today by KISS bassist Gene Simmons and his wife, actress Shannon Tweed, as part of Ford Motor Company’s display at the Specialty Equipment Market Association show at Las Vegas Convention Center.
Snakebit is part of a fundraising effort to build a children’s hospital in Tweed’s hometown of Saskatoon, in the province of Saskatchewan, one of only two Canadian provinces without a dedicated children’s hospital.
The project was originally conceived by Tom Foster, president of Saskatoon-based customizer Industrial Machine & Manufacturing, as a team-building exercise that could help raise funds for a new children’s hospital.
Called Wheels of Dreams, the project to design and build the custom truck was funded by the Ford dealer association in Saskatchewan. It will be auctioned off in 2014 by Barrett-Jackson.
The winning bidder will get one serious truck. Under the sectioned dual-skinned hood of the 1956 F-100 is a Ford Racing supercharged 5.4-liter V8 breathing through a high-performance exhaust system. A six-speed manual gearbox feeds the estimated 550 horsepower to the 20-inch rear wheels.
The wheelbase has been stretched five inches, while the box has been widened and dressed with a billet machined floor to mimic wood. It is topped with a custom tonneau cover. The headlights and sequential taillights are custom-built, while 18-inch front and the 20-inch rear wheels are also inspired by Shelby Mustangs.
The interior of this metallic gray beauty features handmade panels and two-tone leather. The knobs on the leather-wrapped dash are custom, as are the armrests. The leather bench seat, carefully contoured to match the look of a Shelby Mustang interior, is from Glide Engineering.
“The Wheels of Dreams project symbolizes how people can come together to meet the needs of our children and families by raising much needed funds for the new Children’s Hospital of Saskatchewan,” said Brynn Boback-Lane, president and CEO of the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Saskatchewan. “Just like the hospital, this concept car project started as an idea and a desire to do something better for our community.
“What began as a grassroots idea, the volunteers and supporters of Wheels of Dreams have turned into a major international fundraiser opportunity that will ultimately benefit our foundation and the children of Saskatchewan who require the services and care of a hospital,” added Boback-Lane.
