Volume And Variety At Mecum’s Second Annual Anaheim Auction

Mecum Auctions returned to Anaheim, Calif., for its second annual auction at the Anaheim Convention Center and with spectators and bidders pouring in, total sales reached nearly $14 million. With 812 vehicles crossing Mecum’s block Nov. 21-23, 412 hammered sold with deals continuing to be made in the Bid Goes On department.

Mecum had originally anticipated a 750-car lineup, but the consignments came in droves bringing the run total to its impressive final count of more than 800. Top sales for the event were strong and proved an accurate reflection of the variety the auction offered with everything from modern-day supercars and classic muscle, to ‘50s era cars and customs making the list.

Two Ford GTs (Lot S114.1 and S196.1) took the top honors with a 2006 and a 2005 both hammering at $210,000. A highly optioned and well-documented 1969 COPO Camaro (Lot S123) was next in line selling for a healthy $180,000. Steve McQueen’s Harley-Davidson (Lot S138.1) also made the top 10 list coming in at number nine with an astounding $125,000 gavel price. Significant sales continued beyond the top 10 with lots like S134, a 1931 Ford Model A custom pickup. Nicknamed “The Grasshopper,” the truck sold for $100,000, ringing true to SoCal’s reputation for a robust hotrod and custom car scene.

The complete top 10 sales list from the Anaheim auction includes (all individual sales reflect hammer prices):
