2014 Continues Barrett-Jackson’s Philanthropic Legacy, Helps Those in Need with Celebrity Support from Gene Simmons, Billy Baldwin, Rusty Wallace, Among Others
SCOTTSDALE, ARIZ. (Jan. 30, 2013) – Barrett-Jackson, The World’s Greatest Collector Car Auctions™, has always had a large charitable focus since its first auction in 1971, and this year was no different. Barrett-Jackson has worked to provide a platform for consignors and charitable causes to align and raise funds. The 2014 Scottsdale car auction sold 14 cars and experiences for charity, which raised more than $4.4 million to benefit a variety of charity and noble causes. Barrett-Jackson continued its strong philanthropic efforts, working side-by-side with auto industry and motorsports to raise money for local and national charities. One-hundred percent of the proceeds raised by Barrett-Jackson go directly to the charity.
The Opening Night Gala kicked off an incredible week of charity auctions items, which included a Billy Baldwin auction of the ultimate 2015 Super Bowl package with all proceeds benefiting the Carol M. Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund as well as a 1987 Oldsmobile Firenza, Warren Johnson’s NHRA Pro Stock Racecar, that was auctioned with all proceeds benefiting the Darrell Gwynn Foundation. In total, the Opening Night Gala raised $160,000.
“Barrett-Jackson has a strong legacy of raising money for local and national charities,” said Craig Jackson, chairman and CEO of Barrett-Jackson. “Whether it’s Lot #3001, a 2013 Ford Mustang 2 Door Coupe, and Lot #3005, a 1979 Oldsmobile Cutlass Hurst Coupe, both to benefit the Barrett-Jackson cancer Research Fund at TGen in memory of Russ and Brian Jackson, or Lot #3004 a 2013 Ford Fusion NASCAR Race Car benefiting the NASCAR Foundation or the Lots supporting the Armed Forces Foundation, the vehicles that crossed the block to benefit charities continue Barrett-Jackson’s long tradition of making a difference. We are proud to do what we can to help those in need.”
In addition, Barrett-Jackson’s Gene Simmons-endorsed Lot #3006 a 1956 Ford F-100 Custom Shelby truck to benefit The Children’s Hospital Foundation of Saskatchewan raised $450,000.
Adding to its legacy of giving back to the armed forces, Barrett-Jackson offered a unique part of military history by packaging Lot #3008 a 1959 Cessna L-19E Airplane and Lot #3008.1 a 1958 Dodge M37 Military Truck to bidders. The 1959 model L-19E Bird Dog was donated by Cessna Aircraft Company with special thanks to experts at Kansas Aircraft Corporation, responsible for sourcing the plane. Proceeds from the sale of the package benefited the Armed Forces Foundation and their ongoing efforts to assist active-duty and retired military personnel.
“Supporting the men and woman of the armed forces is something that I am very proud of,” said Steve Davis, president of Barrett-Jackson. “We are honored to have this platform to celebrate these men and woman and acknowledge their sacrifices.”

The largest collector car auction in the world lived up to its moniker once again with Mecum’s Kissimmee, Fla., event, held Jan. 17-26, offering a grand total of 2,750 cars and more than 3,000 items of Road Art throughout the 10 days of heated bidding and hard-hammering sales. Auction sales reached a hefty $63,435,490 in total with 1,759 of the vehicles exchanging hands for a sell-through rate of 64 percent.
Despite nationwide weather conundrums resulting in thousands of cancelled flights throughout the Northeast and Midwest, the auction still managed to succeed in bringing buyers and sellers together with overall attendance reaching more than 70,000 spectators and an unbeatably diverse lineup of collector vehicles making the trip. More than 48 hours of the auction were broadcast on NBC Sports and Esquire networks drawing more viewers than any other live Mecum auction broadcast in the auction house’s six-year history on television.
Composed of historical greats and highly desirable rarities, Kissimmee’s Corvette lineup saw 232 change hands for a total of $11,896,560. Encompassed by those numbers are select vehicles from the Dr. Vance Shappley Collection including a 1969 L88 Convertible (Lot S165.1) that sold for $510,000, a 1963 Z06 Tanker (Lot S150.1) that hammered at $475,000 and a ’64 Big Tank Coupe (Lot S181.1) that sold for $350,000. Other notable sales in the Corvette realm include a 1968 L88 Coupe (Lot S179) that gaveled at $530,000 and a Triple Crown-awarded ’67 Coupe (Lot S156) hammering at $240,000. The sale of the 1956 Chevrolet Corvette SR Prototype "The Real McCoy" (Lot S132) has been postponed due to third party claims of ownership of parts used in the restoration.
High-performance Fords and Shelbys demonstrated strong sales as well with the modern-day supercar Ford GTs continuing to demand high dollar. A 2006 Heritage Edition (Lot S196) brought $320,000, and a GT wearing Speed Yellow (Lot T181.1) brought $242,500. A total of 68 percent of the 178 Mustangs and Shelbys offered were sold for nearly $5 million dollars in all with a ’69 Boss 429 Fastback (Lot S141) hammering at $240,000.
Mopars were well represented in Kissimmee with numerous strong prices as 105 of the 155 offered were hammered sold. An unrestored 1971 Plymouth Hemi Cuda (Lot S143) grabbed a sale price of $560,000, and the famous 1967 Plymouth Barracuda Hurst Hemi Under Glass (Lot S200) hammered at $300,000.
Among European makes, Porsche again grabbed the spotlight with 40 of the 60 offered gaveling sold with examples like a Gemini Metallic ’73 911S Coupe (Lot S180) selling for $200,000 and a ’58 356A 1600 Super Cabriolet (Lot S85) coming in at $195,000.
The complete top 10 sales list for Mecum’s Kissimmee auction includes (all individual sales reflect hammer prices):

(Jan. 22, 2014) – Barrett-Jackson, “The World’s Greatest Collector Car Auctions”™, announced today that Barrett-Jackson and Classic Party Rentals were recognized by Guinness World Records for two records. Barrett-Jackson’s GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS® achievements were verified on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014, for “Largest Marquee” – 435,656.95 square feet – and “Largest Single-Unit Marquee” – 351,210.33 square feet. Barrett-Jackson just concluded their 43rd auction at the new auction site, which was held Jan. 12-19 at WestWorld of Scottsdale. Barrett-Jackson’s all-new auction facility is nearly 1 million square feet of everything automotive. The assembled temporary tents exceeded the previous records for “Largest Marquee” by approximately 247,307 square feet and “Largest Single-Unit Marquee” by 124,415 square feet. The former world record holder was a marquee covering an area of 188,350 sq. feet and was erected by the firm of Deuter from Augsburg, West Germany for the 1958 Welcome Expo in Brussels, Belgium.
“As The World’s Greatest Collector Car Auctions™, it is fitting that we conclude our record-breaking Scottsdale auction with two Guinness World Records,” said Craig Jackson, Chairman and CEO of Barrett-Jackson. “The marquee is a key aspect of our auction event at WestWorld and allows for us to stage the blue chip vehicles headed for the block. Barrett-Jackson excels at legendary auction experiences and we designed our site at the new WestWorld facility to exceed the expectations of our celebrities, top car aficionados and collectors year after year. Barrett-Jackson appreciates the partnership we have with the City of Scottsdale and WestWorld.”
A GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS representative was onsite and presented the two records to Craig Jackson and Steve Davis on the block during the Saturday, https://premier-pharmacy.com/product-category/cancer/ January 18th afternoon auction coverage presented on the National Geographic Channel.
“Each year people ask if we can make it bigger and better,” added Steve Davis, President of Barrett-Jackson. “This year we definitely raised the bar. The facility is unbelievable and Barrett-Jackson’s new home is true to the Barrett-Jackson name. As the world’s leading collector car auction, we strive to make each event more exhilarating than the previous year, offering something new every year”.
