VELOCITY AND DISCOVERY CHANNEL TO AIR 36 HOURS OF LIVE COVERAGE OF THE BARRETT-JACKSON SCOTTSDALE AUCTION IN JANUARY 2015

–Entire, Famed Ron Pratte Collection and Jeff Gordon’s 1999 No.24 Pepsi Chevrolet Highlight the Scottsdale Auction Block–

The 1954 Pontiac Bonneville Special Motorama concept car, one of only two designed by GM styling icon Harley Earl, is just one of 142 cars in the Ron Pratte Collection crossing the block at the 2015 Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction in January.

(Silver Spring, Md.)Velocity and Discovery Channel announced today 36 hours of live, world premiere coverage of the 44th annual BARRETT-JACKSON SCOTTSDALE AUCTION beginning Tuesday, January 13 from 6-8 PM ET/PT on Discovery Channel and continuing through Sunday, January 18 from 2-7 PM ET on Velocity. The networks’ broadcast of the Scottsdale auction kicks off an agreement to air 100 hours of live coverage of BARRETT-JACKSON, The World’s Greatest Collector Car Auctions™, across Discovery Channel and Velocity in 2015.

“January’s Scottsdale auction is the most buzzed about in Barrett-Jackson’s storied history,” said Robert Scanlon, General Manager, Velocity. “We pride ourselves in delivering world-class automotive content and our broadcast of this auction represents the very best of Velocity. There is no more exciting way to start off 2015 than partnering with Discovery Channel to bring audiences inside BARRETT-JACKSON SCOTTSDALE live as it happens.”

For the first time ever, the BARRETT-JACKSON SCOTTSDALE AUCTION will air live internationally on Discovery Channel and Discovery World in Canada, and on Discovery Channel and Discovery Turbo in Latin America throughout the week. In addition, the Spanish language broadcast will be available to U.S. viewers on Discovery en Español on Saturday, January 17 from 8-10 PM ET.

“We’re excited to take Barrett-Jackson to a purely automotive network again,” said Craig Jackson, chairman and CEO of Barrett-Jackson. “We’re also thrilled to mark another first in our history by going live to all of North America and Latin America, and broadcasting bilingually to bring the world of collector cars to a whole new audience.”

The highlight of the BARRETT-JACKSON SCOTTSDALE AUCTION will be Ron Pratte’s world-renowned collection of 142 cars, trucks and motorcycles, as well as more than 1,500 pieces of automotive memorabilia. The collection includes the only remaining 1966 Shelby Cobra 427 Super Snake and a striking 1954 Pontiac Bonneville Special Motorama concept car, one of only two designed by GM styling icon Harley Earl. The collection’s very rare 1950 GM Futurliner (one of only 12 ever built) will be auctioned off with 100-percent of the proceeds benefiting the Armed Forces Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit dedicated to supporting and advocating for active-duty military personnel, National Guardsmen, Reservists, military families and veterans.

Another highlight of the Scottsdale auction block is NASCAR championship driver Jeff Gordon’s fully restored 1999 No. 24 Pepsi Chevrolet Monte Carlo. The historic stock car was rebuilt to “as new” condition by Ray Evernham, and last used by Gordon and his then crew chief Evernham in their final season competing together. Now on display in the Barrett-Jackson Collection Showroom in Scottsdale after its multi-city unveiling, the car is scheduled to cross the block during the Scottsdale auction with proceeds going to benefit The Jeff Gordon Children’s Foundation.

Other highlights of BARRETT-JACKSON SCOTTSDALE include the 1955 Chevy used in the counterculture-era cult classic film “Two-Lane Blacktop” starring James Taylor and The Beach Boys’ Dennis Wilson, and a 1952 Woodill Wildfire, the first complete fiberglass car ever available and the star of three films: “Johnny Dark” with Tony Curtis; “Written on the Wind” with Rock Hudson; and “Knock on Wood” with Danny Kaye. Viewers can also expect an incredible line-up of customs and Hot Rods, including a 1971 De Tomaso Pantera Ringbrothers Custom created in collaboration with Nike, and Jimmy Shine’s 1934 Ford Custom Pickup, considered by many to be a “turning point” Hot Rod of the 20th century.

With known ownership history since new, this Short Nose was restored in 1999 to as-original specifications with a 3.3-liter engine and a five-speed gearbox. Other event highlights included Matt Farah of the popular TV show “Drive” on NBCSN joining Mecum’s live announce team on Saturday for a special guest appearance. CAR TO BE FEATURED AT BARRETT-JACKSON SCOTTSDALE ON VELOCITY

Jeff Gordon and Ray Evernham’s 1999 No.24 Pepsi Chevrolet to Benefit Jeff Gordon Children’s Foundation

Ray Evernham poses with Jeff Gordon’s 1999 No. 24 Pepsi Chevrolet Monte Carlo at Ray Evernham Enterprises in Mooresville, NC.

LAS VEGAS – Nov. 6, 2014 – Velocity, Barrett-Jackson and Jeff Gordon, Inc. announced this morning during VELOCITY LIVE at the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show in Las Vegas that NASCAR racing legends, Jeff Gordon and Ray Evernham will auction off a 1999 No. 24 Pepsi Chevrolet Monte Carlo used in their final season working together during the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction in 2015. The duo reunited to restore the Busch Series car to its former glory to benefit Jeff Gordon Children’s Foundation, and for a special episode of Evernham’s hit series “AmeriCarna” on Velocity. The car is scheduled to cross the block at the Barrett Jackson Scottsdale auction on January 13 on Velocity.

“The heart of ‘AmeriCarna’ is uncovering long lost 4-wheeled treasures that played a large part in a person’s past,” said Evernham. “The No. 24 car has been an unmistakable artifact of my career, and holds a unique spot in NASCAR history. Reviving the car’s championship glory with my long-time friend, Jeff Gordon, has been a labor of love. We’re proud to revisit its history in an all-new episode of ‘AmeriCarna’ in 2015.”

As the host of Velocity’s AmeriCarna series, Ray Evernham traverses the country in pursuit of telling America’s love affair with cars. Unlike any other automotive-focused series, AmeriCarna sheds light on the profound impact automobiles, of every make and model, have played in American culture.

Among the featured cars crossing the block during the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction is Gordon’s 1999 No. 24 Pepsi Chevrolet Monte Carlo, which won the inaugural Busch Series event at Phoenix International Raceway in 1999. Earlier that year, Gordon/Evernham Motorsports (GEM) was founded to compete in that year’s NASCAR Busch Series season. The team’s Pepsi-sponsored cars ran six races with Gordon as driver and Evernham as crew chief. The last of these six came at Phoenix International Raceway, which was the penultimate race for the driver/crew chief duo, bringing an end to an era in NASCAR competition that was dominated by Gordon and Evernham.

A LOOK BACK AT FORD’S PERFORMANCE HERITAGE

A LOOK BACK AT FORD’S PERFORMANCE HERITAGE

The last retail 2014MY Ford Shelby GT500 convertible auction by Ford Motor Company to benefit the Brain Injury Association of America fetched a whopping $500,000 at the inaugural Hot August Nights Auction presented by Barrett-Jackson in Reno, Nevada, in August 2013.

Barrett-Jackson and Ford have an impressive shared legacy, and both companies certainly know the importance of performance and quality. Collector cars built by Ford Motor Company have long been part of the Barrett-Jackson “scene.” Some of the most noteworthy Ford vehicles to cross the Barrett-Jackson auction block—many raising millions of dollars to benefit worthy charities—have been the famed 1966 Shelby Super Snake Cobra, the last 2014 Ford Shelby GT500 convertible and the first production 2015 Ford Mustang available to the public.

As a primary sponsor of Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auctions for a decade, Ford has played a prominent role at events nationwide. From Ride ’N Drives to exciting lap experiences, attendees have enjoyed unforgettable moments in Ford-built vehicles. And it’s no wonder. As this video illustrates, Ford has a legendary performance heritage that spans almost every racing series around the world. Lessons learned on the race track help influence Ford’s lineup of performance vehicles for consumers.

Mecum To Offer Wellborn Musclecar Museum Collection At World’s Largest Collector Car Auction In Kissimmee

As a collection that has indisputably achieved world-class status among the expansive community of muscle car enthusiasts from around the globe, The Wellborn Musclecar Museum Collection will now be offered for sale at Mecum Auctions’ 2015 Kissimmee auction. Nearly half of this unparalleled collection will cross the block as the headliner of approximately 3,000 classic and collector cars at the world’s largest collector car auction this January 16-25 in Kissimmee, Fla.

Mecum Auctions has offered some of the most desirable collections of muscle cars in the past 28 years, and this selection of vehicles from the Wellborn Musclecar Museum Collection hits at the top of the list. Tim Wellborn is recognized as one of the top muscle car and Mopar collectors in the world, and while Hemi-powered Mopars are a predominant theme, the collection offers many other prime examples including a 1970 Boss 429 Mustang that is unrestored with 4,700 miles, an unrestored Black-on-Black 1970 LS6 Chevelle and a very rare Stage 1 Buick GSX. Over the years, Tim Wellborn has often referred to his cars simply as “unobtainium.” Now with new plans to begin rotating displays at the Wellborn Musclecar Museum in Alexander City, Ala., this unique opportunity to obtain the unobtainable will become a reality at Mecum in Kissimmee, January 2015.

“We’ve undoubtedly had some truly amazing collections cross our block through the years, but this group probably tops all of them,” comments Mecum Auctions’ President and Founder Dana Mecum. “Tim Wellborn will offer 25 cars from his coveted collection at Kissimmee 2015. As the largest seller of muscle cars in the world, Mecum Auctions was a natural choice for Tim to sell his cars with, but nonetheless, we’re honored to have the opportunity to work with him and his stunning group of cars. Kissimmee will bring with it a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for buyers looking to acquire these extremely rare and highly sought-after muscle cars.”

The Wellborn Musclecar Museum is located in Alexander City, Ala. It was opened by collector Tim Wellborn in January 2010 and boasts the world's largest collection of Dodge Chargers as well as a host of other Mopar legends and classic muscle cars.

Wellborn’s extensive group of carefully collected 1971 Dodge Hemi Chargers will lead the lineup in Kissimmee, which also includes a variety of some of the most iconic muscle cars of the Golden Era with a focus on quality and distinctiveness. Some of the cars have been owned by the Wellborns for 20 or more years, making this exclusive offering especially extraordinary.

Attention SEMA Attendees: The 1971 Dodge Hemi Charger R/T Sunroof will be on display at the NBC Sports booth #11908 from Nov. 4-7.

“The cars that will be offered in Kissimmee really are the best of collection,” Wellborn explains. “I’ve really always considered myself just the caretaker of these cars, and now it’s time to let someone else take on that role. I am familiar with Mecum’s customers, and I trust that they will appreciate these cars and care for them the way they deserve. It’s tough to let go, but I’m confident in Mecum Auctions and its followers, and it’s just time.”

“It is very rare that collections of the magnitude and notoriety of the Wellborn Collection come up for sale,” notes Frank Mecum, Mecum Auctions’ consignment director. “The cars of this collection will undoubtedly serve to set the new benchmark for the future of the collector car market. It is also important to note that most of the cars coming out of the Wellborn Collection have never been offered to the public; collectors are aware of the rarity of such an offering and know that they don’t get many chances at owning collections that have previously been unobtainable.”

Wellborn also commented on the future of the museum. “The goal here is really to make room to continue rotating the museum inventory,” he says. “Space is limited, so we can’t just keep adding to the current group of cars, and we want to keep the muscle car displays fresh – and always the best of the best. This is actually the start of a new era for the Wellborn Musclecar Museum.”
