SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Dec. 22, 2014 – Barrett-Jackson, The World’s Greatest Collector Car AuctionsTM is setting the stage with some award-winning and highly acclaimed custom vehicles during its Scottsdale auction Jan. 10-18, 2015, at WestWorld in Scottsdale, Ariz. Among the top customs is a ’36 Dodge Brothers Touring Sedan (Lot #5006) that was named the 2014 Goodguys “America’s Most Beautiful Street Rod.”

The ’36 Dodge Brothers Touring Sedan (Lot #5006) began with an Art Morrison full air-ride chassis and took 13 years to build. Built to the highest level of quality, design and function, the sedan debuted at the 2014 Portland Roadster Show where it won the “Rose Cup” Grand Sweepstakes award. It has only been shown two other times, one of which was the Goodguys West Coast Nationals in Pleasanton, Calif., where it was crowned “America’s Most Beautiful Street Rod.”
Lot #5004, a ’34 Ford Custom “Jimmy Shine” pickup took the Hot Rod world by storm when it graced the cover of the Rodders Journal in 2001. It was followed by 65 magazine features and has appeared on eight different TV series, including “Hard Shine,” “American Icon” and “Hot Rod Build Off.” The engine is a 277cid H&H Flathead with Navarro heads and intake, and two Stromberg carburetors on top of an S.C.O.T. supercharger. The transmission is a ’39 Ford mated to a ’41 Ford differential on a heavily modified Henry Ford frame designed by Shine with solid front axle and wishbones.
“The workmanship that went into these customs is simply outstanding,” said Steve Davis, president of Barrett-Jackson. “Customs are a truly unique part of our American automotive culture and we have some remarkable examples crossing the block in January.”
Included in the docket is 2013 Popular Hot Rodding Muscle Car of the Year, an ’81 Pontiac Trans Am Custom Twin Turbo (Lot #1081) that boasts an incredible 1,042hp to the rear wheels. Built by Schwartz Performance, the car features a quick-shifting 4L80E overdrive Bowler Transmissions to reliably harness the horsepower. The chassis has a multi-link rear suspension in place of the factory leaf springs, as well as tubular front suspension. To slow the Trans Am down, Schwartz Performance included 14″ monobloc 6-piston disc brakes. The car also features Ridetech triple adjustable remote reservoir coilover shocks and rack & pinion steering.
A fully customized ’72 De Tomaso Pantera (Lot #5072), built by the Ringbrothers, combines Italian styling with American horsepower. With 600hp, this custom supercar is built to be as beautiful on the road as it is blindingly fast. At the heart of this Pantera lies a Wegher Motorsport LS3 mated to a ZF 5-speed gearbox from Bowler Performance Transmission and a B&M shifter. To bring the interior of the car to life, the Ringbrothers collaborated with Nike’s innovative Skunk Works design team.

This 1978 Tupolev N007 Gullwing Boat is one of more than 140 vehicles from the Ron Pratte Collection crossing the block at the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction in January.
In 1961, the Russian military ordered the Tupolev Aircraft Company to design and build an amphibious craft small enough to be transported inside the Russian MK6 giant helicopter. It was to be used for the recovery of Russian cosmonauts downed in Siberia after completion of their space flights. The craft had to be capable of crossing lakes, swampy tundra and hostile terrain while also being capable of operating at temperatures well below freezing at speeds of above 100km/h.
Aleksei Tupolev (1888-1972) was a Russian aircraft designer and is considered the father of Soviet Aviation. His designs include the Tu-95 Bear, which is a famous Russian bomber, and the Tu-444, which is also known as the Russian Concord. He built Tupolev into one of the most successful aviation companies in the world employing more than 11,000 of Russia’s finest engineers.
In 1965, Tupolev first introduced his prototype we call the “N007″ at the “Exhibition of Achievements of the National Economy of the USSR” in Moscow. His design won the “Diploma of Finest Engineer in the USSR.”
In 1999, “N007″ was acquired in dilapidated condition. A German metal craftsman restored the body by hand and the engine was overhauled in Bacau, Romania, by the original factory. Restorations of the propeller and the interior of the craft were also necessary. After completion in 2004, the craft was shown at boat shows all over the country and featured in many TV newscasts and written publications.
In 2005, “N007″ received the “Corinthian Award” at the “Keels and Wheels” Concours d’Elegance in Houston. In 2006, the craft not only received the “Corinthian Award” again, but also the “Award of Excellence” in a prestigious show called “Concours d’Elegance” in Greenwich, CT.
The exact number of these cosmonaut rescue crafts has always been kept a secret, but “N007″ is the only one known to exist in the country. Engine MP14B, Turbocharged 360hp and 350-liter fuel capacity for long range. Length is 6.11 meters and width 2.16 meters with a height of propeller at 2.20 meters. Its weight is 2,100kg and payload on water is 300kg.
This being one of the last models built, it was equipped with a leading edge differential for control system. It has a 500psi air pressure system to start the engine and operates without the need of batteries in extremely cold temperatures.

Originally conjured in 1953 by Italy’s Iso Works (maker of kitchen appliances), German automaker BMW licensed the manufacturing rights to the Isetta in 1955. Though 1955 and early ’56 Isettas were woefully underpowered by their single cylinder, 247-cc BMW R25 motorcycle engines, this 1956 Isetta 300 features the more powerful 298-cc single cylinder engine and is fully capable of 45 mph cruising around town or to the country club.
Expertly restored to showroom stock condition, this example is “loaded” with electric windshield wiper, electric windshield defroster and heater, white wall tires, driver-side sun visor, pedal pads and steering/gearshift boots. Built on the more desirable fixed side-glass body configuration, the entire fabric roof folds back and down for open air motoring on sunny days.

1959 Fiat Jolly
In the late ’50s and early ’60s, Fiat commissioned Carrozzeria Ghia to build a small number of custom bodies for the Jolly roadster on the diminutive 600 chassis. This sporty little vehicle, with its wicker seats and fringed top, was the car of choice for wealthy European playboys and their supermodel girlfriends in the Riviera resort communities such as St. Tropez and Monte Carlo.
Jollys were rare even in their heyday, and fewer than 100 are believed to exist today. Seldom offered, this is a finely maintained example. The wicker seats have been painstakingly renewed, with all other mechanical and cosmetic elements in excellent condition. The vanity license plate MNKY CAR reflects use on Monkey Island, Grand Lake, “The Oklahoma Riviera.” A Fiat Jolly is both an interesting and unique collectible automobile as well as a toy that can be used and enjoyed.

This 1940 Ford Woody Wagon (Lot #2021) was restored by Doug Delorme, a 30+ year employee in the design department of Ford Motor Company. Delorme acquired the car from the family of Mrs. Kales of Whitehead and Kales and the car was reportedly a gift from Henry Ford to Mrs. Kales as a wedding present.
The Woody Wagon was a complete body-off restoration done to a very high level. Period-correct, it would undoubtedly score very high in an early Ford V8 show. The structural wood is the original wood that came on the car with all-new birch paneling throughout. The Thorne Brown paint was a 1940 Ford color.

This 1907 Harley-Davidson Motorcycle is one of more than 140 vehicles from the Ron Pratte Collection crossing the block at the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction in January.
Commonly referred to as a “strap tank” because of how the oil tank is secured to the gas tank with nickel-plated steel straps, this 1907 Harley-Davidson Strap Tank (Lot #2506) was produced during the legendary Milwaukee firm’s third year in volume production.
It is one of 150 motorcycles built in 1907 and is powered by a correct 27cid single cylinder engine. Originally delivered new to Los Angeles for use by the city police department, it spent much of its life in California except for a stint in the hands of a New York collector some 30 years ago.
It was stolen in the mid-‘70s when it was in pieces awaiting a previous restoration. Justice prevailed, and the cycle was subsequently purchased by Otis Chandler, who set things right by obtaining many of its misplaced original parts with help from early Harley-Davidson specialist Stu Munger. No expense was spared, and the results speak for themselves. The leather belt drive pulleys, crankcase handlebars and idler/tensioner brackets are chrome plated and complement the Renault Gray frame with red pinstriping while the gas tank bears the Harley-Davidson logo in real gold leaf foil.

1929 Indian 401 Motorcycle
The ultimate expression of the American inline 4 cylinder motorcycle, Indian’s 401 would define the smooth, quiet 4 cylinder motorcycle for nearly a generation of riders. Formerly of the Otis Chandler Collection, this 1929 Indian 401 (Lot #2058) has been restored to as-new condition and is ready to be ridden.
Its powered by a 77.2cid F-head inline four with a 3-speed gearbox and kick starter and the brakes consist of a contracting drum brake (rear) and enclosed, expanding drum brake (front). In keeping with Indian’s legacy, shifts are accomplished via a chromed shift lever capped by a black ball positioned at the rider’s right knee.

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Dec. 18, 2014 – Barrett-Jackson, The World’s Greatest Collector Car AuctionsTM, will bring an exciting group of Shelbys based on the Ford Mustang to the stage during its Scottsdale auction Jan. 10-18, 2015, at WestWorld in Scottsdale, Ariz. Among the featured Shelbys will be a ’68 Shelby GT500 KR convertible (Lot #5013) that is one of only 51 painted in Acapulco Blue.
“Barrett-Jackson has a deep appreciation for Carroll Shelby and the lasting impact his cars have made on American performance,” said Craig Jackson, chairman and CEO of Barrett-Jackson. “The magic he built into the Ford Mustang line over the years is simply legendary. A Shelby favorite to cross the Scottsdale auction block will be a ’68 Shelby KR in Acapulco Blue with deluxe black interior (Lot #5013). This King of the Road Shelby Mustang has been refinished to MCA and SAAC standards and includes a 4-speed manual transmission, power steering, power front disc brakes, tilt-away steering column and AM radio. Every component on this Shelby KR, from the correctly dated motor to the original carburetor, is either original or correctly replaced.
“Our Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction will be almost 50 years to the day that Ford first launched the Shelby GT 350 Mustang at Riverside, California,” said Steve Davis, president of Barrett-Jackson. “This will be an exciting opportunity to honor the Ford and Shelby relationship with some exciting Shelbys on the docket.”
Also highlighting the collection of Shelbys on the Scottsdale docket is a Candy Apple Red ’70 Shelby GT500 Fastback (Lot #5028) with ultra-rare deluxe red interior. Only seven 1970 GT500s were built red with red interior. This particular Shelby is loaded from the factory and includes an automatic transmission, power steering, power brakes and deluxe console. It features all matching numbers between the engine, transmission and the rear end, and is fully documented with the original Build Sheet, Eminger Sheet and Marti Report.
“Carroll Shelby’s” ’69 Shelby GT500 convertible (Lot #2511) and a ’66 Shelby GT350 Fastback (Lot #2032), from the Ron Pratte Collection, will also cross the auction block in Scottsdale. Owning it for more than three decades, the Shelby GT500 was Carroll Shelby’s personal car since new. It was named the number-one car on Mustang Monthly’s “Top 10 Dream Cars” in July 2001. The Shelby GT350 was fully restored in 2003 in the factory-correct Ivy Green with white LeMans stripes and black interior. Under the hood is the original 306hp, high-output 289 V8 backed by the original 4-speed transmission, both of which have been fully rebuilt within the past 1,000 miles using correct NOS parts.

By 1934, the Chrysler Airflow was introduced to the market and sold through 1937. The aerodynamics concept was so advanced, that after four years the buying public still hadn’t caught up to this otherworldly image and sales dwindled. Throughout the rest of the ’30s, most Chryslers looked like their design had taken a step backward. You could say it was the industry’s first attempt at retro-styling. The fact remains, the Chrysler Airflow opened the door to the future of automotive design, and imaginative engineers have been charging through it ever since.
