Scottsdale, Ariz., – April 30, 2008 - The Barrett-Jackson Auction Company recently announced that it helped raise $1.1 million for various local and national charities during the 6th Annual Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Event in West Palm Beach, Fla., on March 26-30, 2008. Donations at the automotive lifestyle event were gathered through the sale of 18 collector vehicles, crowd donations and fundraisers during the Opening Night Gala. Barrett-Jackson, which routinely waives buyer and seller fees on charity vehicles, has helped raise over $6.1 million for charity during the 2008 auction season.
“Over 40 years ago, my father Russ Jackson and his partner Tom Barrett presented their first automotive event with one goal in mind – to raise money for the Scottsdale Library,” said Craig Jackson, Chairman/CEO of Barrett-Jackson. “Today, I’m proud that our team has succeeded in continuing the Barrett-Jackson legacy of helping others. We experienced success again this year by exceeding the $1 million mark in charitable donations for the first time in the six-year history of the Palm Beach event. In Scottsdale, we helped raise an amazing $5 million, bringing the total to over $6.1 million for this year as we gear up for our inaugural Las Vegas auction.”
With the help of Ford Motor Company, the abundant crop of charity cars sold in Palm Beach was led by the KITT Ford Shelby Mustangs from NBC’s “Knight Rider,” which sold as a pair for $300,000 to benefit Ford’s Salute to Education program (www.stescholarships.org). Salute to Education, which awards college scholarships to high school seniors in South Florida, received an additional $264,000 from sales of four other cars, including $135,000 for a 2008 Ford Mustang Roush P-51A fastback #151.
“Ford stepped up to the plate once again and brought some unbelievable cars to auction in Palm Beach,” said Steve Davis, President of Barrett-Jackson. “Last year, Ford joined Carroll Shelby on stage to unveil and sell the first Shelby GT-H convertible. And they delivered again this year with the KITT cars, a stunning one-off ROUSH P-51 Mustang and several other exceptional, one-of-a-kind vehicles.”
Barrett-Jackson, together with The Armed Forces Foundation (www.armedforcesfoundation.org) and Super Chevy magazine, fetched an impressive price of $130,000 for a 1957 Chevy Bel Air custom convertible dubbed “Project American Heroes”; an additional $1,000 was donated by those in attendance. All proceeds benefited The Armed Forces Foundation, which provides support to the families of fallen or disabled soldiers.
The Darrell Gwynn Foundation (www.darrellgwynnfoundation.org), a longtime charity partner of Barrett-Jackson, was the beneficiary of over $225,000 including $137,000 received from the sale of the 2008 Eliminator Daytona boat, and an additional $66,000 from a commemorative poster autographed by all the celebrities at the Scottsdale 2008 event and crowd donations. Founded to help provide for and ultimately cure spinal cord injuries and other debilitating illnesses, Darrell Gwynn Foundation also benefited from fundraisers held during Barrett-Jackson’s annual Opening Night Gala.
“The support of Barrett-Jackson as one of its official charities means the world to our foundation,” said Darrell Gwynn, President of Darrell Gwynn Foundation. “They are a perfect partner in allowing us to use their unique platform to raise awareness about paralysis and to provide aid and support.”
Funds raised during the gala were also donated to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (www.missingkids.com), an organization that helps prevent child abduction and sexual exploitation, find missing children and assist victims of child abduction and sexual exploitation, their families and the professionals who serve them.
Eight cars from HBO’s “The Sopranos” were sold in Palm Beach for $83,800, including Tony Soprano’s white 2003 Cadillac Escalade ESV that brought $45,000. Net proceeds from “The Sopranos” cars were donated to Childrens Hospital Los Angeles (www.childrenshospitalla.org).
Additional charity cars in Palm Beach included a 2008 Ford F-150 Harley-Davidson custom pickup that sold for $50,000 to benefit America’s 9/11 Ride Foundation and a 2008 Saturn Sky Redline convertible that brought $31,000 for the Child Rescue Network.
The exceptional charity total in Palm Beach comes just two months after Barrett-Jackson helped raise $5 million during the 37th Annual Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Event in Scottsdale, Ariz. American automakers Ford, GM and Chrysler led the way by auctioning their latest performance vehicles to gather nearly $2 million for respective charities.

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla., April 15, 2008 – When the smoke cleared on the Ford Motor Company stage at the 6th Annual Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Event in West Palm Beach, Fla., on March 29, John Porto emerged as the winner of Ford’s first ever simulated drag racing tournament. Porto, a resident of Stuart, Fla., and an avid automotive enthusiast, was awarded a new V6 Mustang from the South Florida Ford Dealers for his impressive driving. Following the victory, Porto upgraded to a Ford Mustang GT that will soon be fitted with Ford Racing’s FR1 power upgrade package and FR3 Handling Pack.
“We aim to excite at Barrett-Jackson and the Ford drag racing contest took the entertainment value of our Palm Beach auction to the next level,” said Steve Davis, President of Barrett-Jackson. “For the final race, hundreds of people surrounded the stage, creating the buzz and anticipation of an actual big-time drag race. In addition to the new contest, Ford also sold some amazing cars for charity, which helped bring our charity total for the entire Palm Beach event to over $1 million.”
Ford created a “drag strip” at the event with a pair of actual Ford Mustang Bullitts in front of an NHRA style “Christmas tree” set of lights that simulate a quarter mile drag strip. Individuals entered a drawing for the chance to compete in a series of eliminations where the winner was determined by a combination of reaction and elapsed time. With SPEED cameras capturing live coverage of the championship race, Porto recorded a remarkable quarter-mile time of 13.01 seconds, earning the title and an attractive addition to his garage.
“This was the experience of a lifetime,” noted Porto. “I’ve been attending Barrett-Jackson every year since it started in Palm Beach and this was without a doubt my most memorable trip. Ford has been extremely accommodating during the entire process, including quick delivery of the car. I gave the new Mustang to my wife, so I’ll have to defend my title next year and win one for myself.”
Porto received his Mustang GT from Advantage Ford of Stuart on Sunday, March 30, just one day after winning the drag race at Barrett-Jackson. The Ford Racing FR1 power upgrade package and FR3 Handling Pack that will be added to the car were part of the original prize from Ford.
“Ford Motor Company and the South Florida Ford and Lincoln Mercury Dealers are proud to partner with Barrett-Jackson to bring this exciting drag racing event to Palm Beach,” said Rob Johnston, Marketing Manager, Ford Motor Company Florida Region. “The entire weekend was a huge success for our team. Collectively, we were able to raise money for the Ford Salute to Education Scholarship Program, a partnership with the South Florida Ford and Lincoln Mercury Dealers that’s been in place for nearly 14 years. The program has awarded nearly $3 million in scholarships to deserving high school seniors over that period, and together with Barrett-Jackson, we were able to bring more awareness to the program.”

Record Crowd Shows Strength of Collector Car Hobby at the 6th Annual Event
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla., – April 2, 2008 – Record crowds, over $1 million raised for charity, interactive experiences, expanded live SPEED coverage and scores of new bidders for a strong group of collector cars were the hallmarks of the 6th Annual Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Event in West Palm Beach, Fla., from March 26-30, 2008. Bidders from around the world competed for 509 vehicles that sold at No Reserve for a total of $23,301,250 at the automotive lifestyle event.
“Car collecting continues to thrive and Barrett-Jackson has become the center of the hobby,” said Craig Jackson, Chairman/CEO of Barrett-Jackson. “In Palm Beach, an unprecedented number of people attended the event, consignors sold a great slate of cars, major companies created spectacular interactive exhibits and a group of vendors offered an amazing selection of items for sale. The feedback from our bidders and consignors was extremely positive and the mood throughout the week was very upbeat, which quieted concerns about the unsteady economy.”
Approximately 67,900 people attended the automotive lifestyle event, setting a record and surpassing last year’s attendance by 5 percent. Barrett-Jackson also raised over $1 million for various charities during the auction, including $300,000 from the KITT Ford Shelby Mustangs to benefit Ford’s Salute to Education charity program. SPEED captured 19 hours of high-definition coverage during the auction, while cars ranging from premium American muscle cars to European classics crossed the block. In addition, SPEED and Barrett-Jackson announced a new long-term contract extension through 2011.
“Even with questions about the economy, we built an impressive docket of collector vehicles that brought solid prices across the board,” said Steve Davis, president of Barrett-Jackson. “We continually attract the best vehicles and savviest bidders each year. Every vehicle sells for a fair price at Barrett-Jackson where the marketplace determines the real value of a collector car.”
New bidders bought 44 percent of the cars and were responsible for 39 percent of the sales, which are significant increases from last year. Sales of automobilia were $289,120, which represents a 21 percent increase. Additional increases from last year include a 180 percent boost in total Internet sales and a 12 percent increase in total sales to foreign buyers.
Eighteen vehicles were sold to benefit various charities such as “The Soprano’s” Escalade and seven other vehicles from the award-winning HBO drama, the “Project American Heroes” 1957 Chevy Bel Air, a 2008 ROUSH P-51 Mustang, a Saleen Mustang prototype, a custom Ford F-150, the two KITT Ford Shelby GT500KR style Mustangs, a 2008 Saturn Sky and an Eliminator Daytona boat.
“We had one of the most exciting, amazing days in our history at Palm Beach on Saturday,” added Jackson. “The energy in the room was unbelievable as an impressive run of cars repeatedly fetched over $100,000. And during this excitement, some people were driving Corvettes and Mustangs on our test track. At the Ford display, individuals were drag racing to win a new V6 Mustang from the South Florida dealers. And many came just to see all of the fantastic vehicles at this amazing show.”
Overall, values held steady for the 509 vehicles sold this year in Palm Beach.
“We consigned a well-rounded selection of vehicles for our customers,” explained Davis. “While MOPARS were very hot in early 2007, GM and Fords grew in value this year to make the market more balanced. Shelbys remained strong and other rare muscle cars commanded high values as well. Another trend we are witnessing is that cars sold at Barrett-Jackson are not typically flipped between auctions, as our buyers keep and drive them.”
The excitement surrounding the hobby in Palm Beach translated into increased anticipation for Barrett-Jackson’s upcoming Las Vegas event on Oct. 15-18, 2008. A pristine 1971 Hemi ‘Cuda owned by Al Jardine of The Beach Boys was on display in Palm Beach and will be one of the crown jewel cars sold at the Las Vegas event.
“We’ve already received hundreds of inquiries from people who are interested in consigning their cars for Vegas,” noted Jackson. “We believe that bringing our auction to Las Vegas will continue to fuel the growth of the collector car industry while adding a dynamic third dimension to our event lineup.”

Multi-year Deal Includes Coverage of the Scottsdale, Palm Beach and Las Vegas Events
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla., March 28, 2008 – The world’s premier collector car auction company, Barrett-Jackson, and SPEED , the definitive motorsports and automotive lifestyle network, have reached an agreement on a multi-year contract to continue live broadcasts of the Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Events in Scottsdale, Ariz., and West Palm Beach, Fla., and extend coverage to include Barrett-Jackson’s new Las Vegas auction. The deal gives SPEED exclusive rights to live coverage of Barrett-Jackson’s three auctions and will include multi-platform support such as SPEEDtv.com, mobile, “video on demand” and Fantasy Bid.
“Our new contract is a testament to the growing passion of the collector car hobby,” said Craig Jackson, Chairman/CEO of Barrett-Jackson. “Over the years, our companies have formed a dynamic partnership that has been instrumental to our growth, as well as to the development of this amazing hobby. Barrett-Jackson and SPEED are a winning team, with high ratings, impressive sales numbers and record breaking attendance to prove it.”
The relationship between Speed and Barrett-Jackson began in 1997 with six hours of coverage during the Scottsdale event. Since then, the Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Events and auction programming have become one of the highest-rated shows on the network. The coverage, highlighted by over 40 hours of live action in 2007, has vaulted the thrilling collector car hobby into the mainstream, making it accessible to millions of new collectors across the globe.
“Barrett-Jackson has done a great job of consigning a range of cars from many price ranges – with entry level cars early in the week giving way to the high-dollar vehicles as the weekend goes on,” noted Rick Miner, SPEED SVP of Production & Operations. “What they’re doing is consigning cars that the public wants to buy and that everyone wants to see on television. It’s a great event.”
Barrett-Jackson auctions were born in 1967 from a simple charity car show called “Fiesta del los Auto Elegance” to benefit local Scottsdale charities. By 1971, the show had grown, featuring classics from Russ Jackson’s and Tom Barrett’s personal collections, including Mr. Barrett’s Mercedes 770 Phaeton that fetched $153,000 – setting the automotive world abuzz.
The ’80s and ’90s saw massive growth in the industry and big changes as Craig Jackson took over the company and forged an aggressive, long-term plan of growth, which included a new relationship with SPEED. Over the past 11 years, that relationship has helped position Barrett-Jackson as the premier auction company within the collector car hobby.
“There have been many great moments in more than a decade of broadcasting from the auction block,” added Miner. “One of my favorite memories actually happened in Palm Beach, when they sold the Howard Hughes 1953 Buick Roadmaster. It was a very dramatic moment, especially when it hit a million. You knew the Palm Beach auction had really arrived at that point.”
“Nothing tops the legendary sale of Carroll Shelby’s ’66 Cobra Super Snake last year in Scottsdale,” said Steve Davis, President of Barrett-Jackson. “The electricity in the building was unlike anything I had ever witnessed. Like most of the memorable moments at Barrett-Jackson, the entire sale of the Super Snake was captured by SPEED. They were able to catch the intense exchanges between our auctioneers and the bidders, as well as the reactions of the consignor and Mr. Shelby when the car sold for a record $5 million.”

Ford Also to Auction Cars with Proceeds to Benefit to “Salute to Education” Program
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla., March 27, 2008 – Ford Motor Company and the South Florida Ford Dealers will give the pink slip for a 2008 V6 Ford Mustang to the winner of a series of simulated drag races on Saturday, March 29, 2008, during the 6th Annual Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Event on March 29 in West Palm Beach, Fla. In addition, Ford will sell six high profile vehicles during the weekend event with proceeds to benefit Salute to Education. SPEED will broadcast the sale of approximately 600 cars at No Reserve during its auction coverage in the Americraft Expo Center at the South Florida Fairgrounds.
“Barrett-Jackson events are designed to give enthusiasts a ‘total experience’ that is unmatched,” said Steve Davis, president of the Barrett-Jackson Auction. “In addition to the fantastic cars that will roll across the block at No Reserve, we’ve worked with partners to create interactive experiences like Ford’s drag race. It gives everyone an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to roar down a simulated drag strip in a real car. And someone will win the ultimate souvenir, the title to a new Mustang.”
Ford has created a “drag strip” at the event with a pair of actual V6 Mustangs in front of an NHRA style “Christmas tree” set of lights that simulate a quarter mile drag strip. Individuals enter a drawing for the chance to compete in a series of eliminations where the winner is determined by a combination of reaction and elapsed time. On Saturday, a series of rounds will be held from the best times until two people face off to win a new V6 Ford Mustang that will include Ford Racing’s FR1 power upgrade package and FR3 Handling Pack. The drag race winner will be crowned around 4 PM on Saturday; they will then receive instructions and credit to take to their local dealer to select their V6 Ford Mustang.
“The relationship between Ford Motor Company and Barrett-Jackson in Southern Florida has been beneficial for everyone,” said Rob Johnston, Marketing Manager, Ford Motor Company Florida Region. “We’re showing some of our latest products, selling several cars for charity and have our fantastic drag racing experience. This interactive display will put people into one of the most exciting seats in the house, behind the wheel of a V6 Mustang. Once the dust settles, someone will even get to take one of these fast ponies home thanks to our South Florida Ford dealers.”
The V6 Mustang is part Ford’s “steed for every need” program. The pony car comes in both coupe and convertible body styles, with a 4-liter engine that produces 210 horsepower and 240 pound-feet of torque. The engine can be paired with a 5-speed manual 5-speed automatic or transmission. The credit from Ford is for a base V6 car and the winner can choose from a variety of colors at the local dealer.
In addition to displaying an array of production and custom Fords, the Company is sending six vehicles across the block with all proceeds to benefit charity. These include two of the KITT Ford Shelby Mustangs used in NBC’s “Knight Rider” pilot (Lot #665 and 665.1), a 2008 ROUSH P-51A Mustang (Lot #667), a 2005 SALEEN Mustang prototype/development car (Lot 48), a 2007 “Dub Edition” Lincoln MKZ (Lot #367.1) and a custom 2006 Mercury Milan Voga “Miami Auto Show vehicle” (Lot #926) will be sold at No Reserve.
Ford Motor Company, participating Ford and Lincoln Mercury dealers and Ford Motor Credit fund Salute to Education. Through programs such as Salute to Education, more than $7 million has been given to high school students over the last 16 years to jumpstart their education with scholarships for college.
With all proceeds benefiting Salute to Education, the cars will join a long list of cars in Palm Beach that will be auctioned for charity including several from the hit HBO series “The Sopranos.” On March 26, Barrett-Jackson hosted their annual Opening Night Gala to raise money for The Darrell Gwynn Foundation and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. During the 2007 Palm Beach event, Barrett-Jackson raised over $500,000 for various charities.
