Barrett-Jackson To Celebrate 40 Years Of The Automotive Obsession With Collections From Celebrated Consignors

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Jan. 14, 2011 – Barrett-Jackson Auction Company, a leader in the collector car industry, will sell more than 1,200 vehicles at No Reserve during its 40th Annual Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction from Tuesday, Jan. 18, to Sunday, Jan. 23. WestWorld of Scottsdale will be home to an eclectic group of Hot Rods, Resto-Mods, classics, new collectibles, muscle cars, exotics and much more when it opens its gates to automotive enthusiasts from around the globe. Notable car collectors and celebrities will be among the consignors offering vehicles on the Barrett-Jackson auction block. SPEED will capture the excitement with an unprecedented 40 hours of live coverage in celebration of the 40th anniversary.

“In celebration of this milestone in the company’s history, we’re presenting one of the broadest selections of collector vehicles ever offered for sale at one auction,” explained Craig Jackson, chairman/CEO of Barrett-Jackson. “From celebrity collections to cars from some of the most respected automotive enthusiasts in the country, bidders will be impressed with the diversity of vehicles available for purchase at Barrett-Jackson.”

The Celebrity Corner

Barrett-Jackson has always attracted some of the most popular names in film and music, but this year, an unprecedented number of celebrities will be auctioning their rides (and former rides) in Scottsdale.

Starting with one of the most recognized screenwriters and actors in Hollywood, Barrett-Jackson will sell five special vehicles from Sylvester Stallone’s personal collection. Two of the vehicles offered, a 1955 Ford F-100 (Lot #1014) and a 2009 Special Construction Custom Chopper (Lot #1014.1), are from Stallone’s latest film, “The Expendables.” The sleek black 1955 F-100 custom pickup was not only featured in the movie, but appeared in the TV show “Street Customs.” The truck includes a new Ford 347cid Edelbrock engine, and a B&M equipped AOD transmission with Gibson exhaust. The Heidts Mustang II front suspension is teamed with a Heidts four-link kit and a Ford 9” axle in the rear.

The custom chopper comes equipped with a 124cid engine, Baker transmission, DNA chassis and Springer front end. The entire bike is encased by black paint. Other vehicles from his collection include a 1932 Ford Hi-Boy custom convertible (Lot #1014.2), a 1967 Chevrolet Nova custom two-door coupe (Lot #1015) and a 2006 Ford Mustang custom convertible (Lot #1015.1).

Rock legend and television star Bret Michaels has consigned (Lot #1288.1) his personal 1969 Camaro. An avid car and motorcycle enthusiast, Michaels was recently named People Magazine’s “Survivor of the Year” and FOX411’s “Celebrity of the Year.” In May 2010, he was hand-picked as Donald Trump’s Season 3 winner of Celebrity Apprentice. The Camaro has been featured on MTV Cribs, VH1”s Rock of Love, VH1”s “Bret Michaels: Life as I Know It,” and in his latest video “Driven.” This Custom Dream Machine sports a custom Moonbeam silver paint job with black racing stripes and black leather interior. As an added bonus, Michaels will include a “Bret Michaels Signature Dean Custom Guitar,” which will be personalized to the winning bidder. The buyer will also receive two tickets and backstage VIP passes to any Bret Michaels or Poison show during summer 2011.

The 1963 Ford Thunderbird custom convertible that starred alongside Robin Williams in the 1997 Walt Disney hit “Flubber” will take the stage at (Lot #1268). This movie star has since been customized by Mike Goldman Custom’s, Inc. The Thunderbird received a complete rotisserie restoration featuring LS1 power, 4L60 transmission and a custom air intake engine panel under the hood. The car comes with Wilwood 14″ six-piston brakes and 20″ Dayton true knock-off wheels.

The green on black 1971 Plymouth ‘Cuda custom two-door coupe offered as (Lot #1286) is a celebrity in its own right. Nicknamed the “Frankencuda,” this bad boy is featured in the fifth installment of the “Fast & Furious” motion picture series. The car has been invited to the movie premiere in June 2011 and was signed by Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Justin Lin. It is the cover car on the September 2009 “Mopar Collector’s Guide” magazine and was featured in “Hot Rod.” The car is built on an Art Morrison G Force chassis, four-wheel Wilwood power disc brakes and Budnik wheels. The engine is an all-aluminum 636 HEMI with a 14:71 blower and Ultra Dominator carburetors.

Jesse James, of West Coast Choppers fame, will sell a custom creation from his collection, a 1954 Chevrolet 210 custom two-door hardtop (Lot #1312). The vehicle was built on the hit TV show “Monster Garage” by a team of professionals made up of Gene Winfield, Bill Hines, Dick Dean, Fat Jack, Norm Grabowski and Jesse James himself.

The auction lineup will include a noteworthy collectible from the most famous of daredevils. The 2002 Ford F-150 Evel Knievel Gladiator (Lot #1265.1) is #000 prototype of 2000. The vehicle has 19,023 actual miles and was incorporated into every known public appearance Evel Knievel made starting in 2002 and continuing until he could no longer drive due to health problems. Evel even used the truck on an appearance on “The Jimmy Kimmel Show,” insisting they record his segment with him sitting in the truck.

The stars of Nashville will also be represented through the collection of country music superstar Alan Jackson. He will auction four vehicles from his personal collection, including a 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T two-door convertible (Lot #1008), a 1970 Pontiac GTO two-door coupe (Lot #1008.1), a 1965 Amphicar convertible (Lot #1008.2) and a 1967 Chevrolet Corvette convertible (Lot #1009).

The GTO is a fully restored hardtop powered by Pontiac’s legendary Ram Air IV 400cid 370 horsepower V8. The car received a full body-off-the-frame restoration, including the M21 4-speed transmission, 4.33:1 Safe-T-Track limited slip axle, Rally gauges, power steering, power front disc brakes, pushbutton AM radio and Rally II wheels with white letter radial tires.

One of the most beloved musicians of all time will be at Barrett-Jackson in spirit through his 1976 Cadillac Seville four-door sedan (Lot #1276.1). This Cadillac was originally given as a gift by Elvis Presley to his long-time friend and dentist, Dr. Les Hofman. This vehicle comes with a copy of the car’s original title signed by Elvis, a copy of the original signed affidavit transferring the title to Dr. Hofman and a letter from Dr. Hofman describing the day Elvis personally delivered the car to him.

Considerable Collections from Significant Consignors

Scottsdale is not only the largest of Barrett-Jackson’s four auctions, it also serves as the setting for the most well attended gathering of renowned collectors in the industry.

For 34 years, this consignor has been bringing his vehicles to Barrett-Jackson. While he wants to remain anonymous, his collection is anything but. Six vehicles from this collection will grace the stage, including several classic and pre-war cars. Lot #1307.1, a 1938 Cadillac Series 90 four-door convertible, is stunningly preserved in its original colors and equipment, exactly as presented in the build sheets which accompany it. The convertible still rides on its original bias ply tires, not made or reproduced in over a half-century, and shows fewer than 15,000 original miles on its odometer. This classic was a CCCA National First Prize winner in 1960.

From the road to the racetrack, the next featured consignor will rev up any enthusiast’s engine. Championship race team owner Rick Hendrick’s 13 vehicles will generate buzz when they hit the auction block at WestWorld. A silver with black stripes 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 396 two-door hardtop (Lot #1271.2) features a Cowl Induction hood, 396cid engine that generates 350 horsepower, power steering, power disc brakes, factory air, automatic column shift, black interior bench shift, factory AM/FM radio, frame-off restoration and comes with two original build sheets.

Located in Texas, Amos Minter has been restoring 1955-57 Thunderbirds since 1969. Many of the restored Thunderbirds that have sold at Barrett-Jackson have earned awards at shows and concours across the country. The three convertible Ford Thunderbirds selling at No Reserve include a 1957 (Lot #1006), a 1956 (Lot #1006.1) and a 1955 (Lot #1006.2).

Long-time consignor Keith Henderson will sell 10 vehicles at Barrett-Jackson’s Scottsdale auction. The collection features great examples of late ‘60s and early ‘70s muscle cars. Lot #1249.2, a white on black 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 coupe carries the original 302cid V8 engine with a 4-speed transmission, power steering and brakes. It is documented with the original window sticker, Protect-O-Plate and is certified by Jerry McNieish.

From the garage of Lance Moretensen/Double L Ranch Collection come 12 noteworthy cars, including a 1967 Chevrolet Corvette convertible (Lot #1010.2). The award-winning Corvette is a matching-numbers true survivor, right down to its factory-applied Marlboro Maroon lacquer paint. The car still rolls on its original Uniroyal non-DOT, 7.75” x 15” white stripe tires, and has its original exhaust system, plus original belts, hoses and spark plugs. The car also features only 17,800 miles on the odometer.

Lance will also take the stage with 11 other vehicles:

Muscle car owner Todd Werner will part with a few vehicles from his 15,000 square foot climate controlled garage. Known as one of the rarest Mustangs to date, Lot #1324.1 was originally built at Kar-Kraft in Dearborn, Mich., along with 858 other original BOSS 429s. The 1970 BOSS 429 is clad in Grabber Blue with White Knit Hi-Back bucket seats and interior trim. Its most important feature is the massive BOSS 429 engine. The 4-speed manual close ratio transmission features a Hurst shifter and 3.91 rear gear ratio with locking rear axle.
