Barrett-Jackson Raises Over $4 Million For Charity At 40th Annual Scottsdale Auction
- 20 national and local foundations benefit from sale of 22 charity lots
- Cars from Ford Motor Company and General Motors top charity sales list
- 40th Annual Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction continues tradition of giving back to the community
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Jan. 25, 2011 – The Barrett-Jackson Auction Company helped raise nearly $4 million for 20 local and national charitable causes during the 40th Annual Scottsdale Auction, Jan. 17-23, 2011, held at WestWorld of Scottsdale. Barrett-Jackson waived all fees and commissions on the No Reserve sale of 21 vehicles and a GM engine to help maximize charity contributions.
“Due to the generosity of our consignors and bidders, Barrett-Jackson has helped raise more than $31 million for charities over the past five years,” stated Craig Jackson, chairman and CEO of Barrett-Jackson. “It’s a tradition that our customers have wholeheartedly supported. Charity is part of the Barrett-Jackson culture and we look forward to continuing this tradition throughout our year-long 40th anniversary celebration.”
The top two cars sold for charity were a 2012 one-off Ford BOSS Mustang and a 2011 Chevrolet Camaro convertible pace car. The BOSS Mustang donated by Ford fetched $450,000 for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and included driving instructions at Miller Racing School. The pace car donated by General Motors raised $225,000 for the David Foster Foundation and included the opportunity to ride in the car during the parade laps at the 100th Indianapolis 500 in May.
“Barrett-Jackson provides time on the auction block and also waives all fees and commissions on charity vehicles,” said Steve Davis, president of Barrett-Jackson. “This also includes promoting the charity vehicles leading into the event through our marketing efforts at no charge to the charity. The winning bidders have the wonderful opportunity to take home a great vehicle while supporting a deserving cause because they write their check directly to the organization.”
Approximately $280,000 was raised for the Barrett-Jackson Cancer Research Fund in Memory of Russ and Brian Jackson at TGen from the sale of a 1993 Chevy 40th Anniversary Corvette coupe and a percentage of the sale of a 1965 Shelby Cobra 4000. The Cancer Research Fund at TGen was established in the memory of Craig Jackson’s father, Russ, and his brother, Brian, who lost their lives to cancer.
Other charities that benefitted at the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale 2011 auction, include the Darrell Gwynn Foundation who received charity contributions from the sales of a 1974 Mercury Montego Street Version Race Car and 20th anniversary 1990 Coors Extra Gold Top Fuel dragster replica. The sale of the replica dragster, which has been donated back several times, topped $1 million of total charity dollars raised for the Darrell Gwynn Foundation by the multiple sales of the dragster.
The sale of a 2011 Chevrolet Corvette LeMans Racing Z06 coupe will support the National Corvette Museum and the American Heart Association is the recipient of the funds from the sale of a 2011 GM Performance Parts crate engine. NASCAR Championship team owner Rick Hendrick sold two vehicles to benefit the Levine Children’s Hospital, while a Dodge Charger race car raised money to benefit the Paralyzed Veterans of America. Proceeds from the sale of a 2011 Ford Mustang benefitted Childhelp and Victory Junction Gang Camp. The Child Safety Network and the Basketball Hall of Fame auctioned a 2007 Corvette signed by NBA legends. The Ralph Braun Foundation raised money through the sale of two historic 1981 Corvettes that sold as a pair.
Motorsports Charities Inc., dba The NASCAR Foundation, and Rusty Wallace came together and offered a Victory Vegas custom motorcycle.Casa Esperanza para Ninos benefitted from the sale of a custom 1971 Chevrolet C-20 pickup. The St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital received money from the sale of a Ford Mustang FR500S race car. The new owner of the 2010 Hurst Ford Racing Mustang Challenger Series Pace Car convertible wrote their check to the Austin Hatcher Foundation. Money from the custom 2011 Ford Mustang coupe with custom paint benefits Bennett’s House. The Chip Miller Charitable Foundation (CMCF) receives the funds from the sale of a 1973 Chevrolet Corvette coupe in Scottsdale. The sale of a 2011 Rally Fighter desert racer raised money for Cox Charities.
