World’s Greatest Collector Car Auctions Celebrates 10 Years in Southern Florida with an Increase in Sales and Attendance
SCOTTSDALE, AZ. – April 10, 2012 – Barrett-Jackson Auction Company, The World’s Greatest Collector Car Auctions™, announced today that its 10th Annual Palm Beach Event, held April 5-7 at the South Florida Fairgrounds, generated more than $18 million in sales of Classics, Muscle Cars, Hot Rods, Resto-Mods, Exotics and Contemporary Collectibles in front of a crowd of over 55,000.
Both attendance and sales figures were up from last year. The three-day event, which featured nearly 450 vehicles, was also enjoyed by millions across the country on SPEED, with more than 20 hours of live coverage. Attendance and sales figures exceeded last year’s numbers, further signifying an economic upswing.
The 10th Annual Palm Beach Auction also brought in a large number of new bidders with 42 percent having registered to bid at the event for the first time. Additionally, Barrett-Jackson saw some fantastic individual sales, including the following vehicles:
- Lot #3007 2011 Ford Shelby GT 500 2 Door Hardtop - $1,000,000 (Sale benefited Wounded Warriors Family Support)
- Lot #699 2010 Spyker C8 Spyder SWB Convertible – $220,000
- Lot #679 1959 Chevrolet Corvette Custom Convertible – $203,500
“We had a very successful 10th anniversary in Palm Beach,” said Craig Jackson, chairman and CEO, Barrett-Jackson. “I’m thrilled to see a continuation in the recovery of the economy. Barrett-Jackson auctions have consistently been a strong leading indicator of the economic climate and this year has proven to be a very positive trend.”
Barrett-Jackson also helped to raise nearly $1.8 million for local and national charitable organizations that included Wounded Warriors Family Support, The Darrell Gwynn Foundation and many more. The charitable efforts began during the Barrett-Jackson Opening Night Gala on April 4 where a silent auction benefitting The Darrell Gwynn Foundation raised $55,000. Eight charitable vehicles were sold in total and Barrett-Jackson waived its consignment fees and buyer’s premiums for each one.
“I’m a big fan of Palm Beach and the collectors who come here from all over the East Coast,” said Barrett-Jackson President Steve Davis. “The fact that we see more enthusiasts here every year is a testament to their dedication to the hobby.”
