Another Original Eleanor Mustang To Hit The Block At Mecum In Chicago
Go baby go. That was the phrase on everybody’s lips at Mecum’s Indianapolis 2013 auction where bidders determined the worth of the “Gone in 60 Seconds” movie star car known as Eleanor to be a cool $1 million. Now, another one of the movie’s “hero” cars, VIN #7R02C173895 is set to cross Mecum’s block at the Schaumburg Convention Center this Saturday, Oct. 12 at Mecum’s Chicago 2013 auction.
Built by Cinema Vehicle Services specifically for the 2000 remake of a true cult classic, this 1967 Ford Mustang Eleanor (Lot S178) is one of only three used as “hero” cars during the filming of the movie in scenes involving the actors. An iconic trend-setter that has inspired countless replicas, the car features all of the signature Eleanor pieces including the distinctive two-tone Silver and Charcoal paint and the go-baby-go shifter, all put there by the builder who is including a letter of authenticity with the sale. Eager to consign this Eleanor with Mecum, the current owner shipped the car to Chicago from his residence in the United Kingdom via air transport to take part in the upcoming auction. Following Mecum’s Indianapolis sale, the question on everyone’s mind is “Will this Eleanor hero car become the next million-dollar Mustang?”
Eleanor will cross the block along with nearly 1,000 other coveted vehicles at Chicagoland’s only collector and classic car auction this Oct. 10-12. Doors to the auction open each day at 8 a.m. Portions of all three days will be broadcast live on Discovery’s Velocity Network in addition to a live stream of the entire auction presented by Mecum at www.mecum.com.
