SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Jan. 18, 2010 – This week’s 39th Annual Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction in Scottsdale is the epicenter of the Chevrolet Corvette world as numerous top tier, award-winning examples begin crossing the block today through Sunday. Enthusiasts will also be treated to “Corvette Market” magazine’s 3rd annual seminar on Thursday. The world class ‘Vettes and seminar are both part of the diverse lineup of desirable vehicles for sale, industry highlights and lavish lifestyle events that make Barrett-Jackson “The World’s Greatest Collector Car Auctions™.”
“Since 1953, the Corvette has earned its place among the elite sports cars worldwide,” said Craig Jackson, Chairman/CEO of Barrett-Jackson. “That’s why we always have the best selection of ’America’s sports car’ in Scottsdale each year. For collectors looking for a world-class ‘Vette, we’ll have several examples from numbers matching classics to wild customs. And the Corvette Market seminar will feature the top Corvette experts on the planet. We brought the seminar to WestWorld to offer enthusiasts a valuable learning experience in addition to the fun cars, great food and other activities away from the auction block.”
One of several numbers matching classics sure to garner attention in Scottsdale is Lot #1263, a 1960 Corvette convertible that was one of only three 1960 models honored with the prestigious NCRS Duntov Mark of Excellence Award in 2009. This first generation ‘Vette features the special production option 579D, which includes a 283cid/290 horsepower engine with Duntov cam and solid lifters. All Fuel Injection components, engine block, transmission, rear end and other options are correct for this car, including the documented original Honduras Maroon color.
Two late model ZR1 Corvettes will be sold as a pair at Barrett-Jackson. Lot #1320 is a blue, race-ready 2010 Corvette ZR1 featuring a 427cid/638 horsepower, 6-speed manual transmission and the new launch option that allows 0-60 times in the 3.3 second range. Also clad in blue, Lot #1320.1 is a 1995 Corvette ZR1 that began its life as a GM executive car. The 350cid/405 horsepower ‘Vette is one of 13 1995 ZR1s produced in Aqua Blue.
“This is the best offering of Corvettes we’ve ever had at Barrett-Jackson,” added Steve Davis, president of Barrett-Jackson. “With a total of 125 Corvettes ranging in model year from 1954 to 2010, every generation of this American giant will be represented on our auction block.”
Prior to the auction on Thursday, Corvette Market will host its 3rd annual Scottsdale seminar inside The Garage at Barrett-Jackson from 9-11 a.m. Led by Corvette Market publisher Keith Martin, the seminar will include two segments and cover Restoration vs. Preservation, as well as the panel’s picks to Buy, Sell and Hold. Joining Martin on the panel will be Terry Michaelis, Mike Yager, David Burroughs, Jim Jordan, Kevin Mackay, Michael Pierce, and Roy Sinor. The seminar is free for registered Barrett-Jackson bidders and consignors, Corvette Market and Sports Car Market subscribers, owners of Bloomington Gold-Certified Corvettes and NCRS Members. General admission is $10. CLICK HERE to register at the Corvette Market seminar web page. Registration to the seminar does not include admission to the Barrett-Jackson auction, which must be purchased separately.
“This seminar brings together the highest-powered players in the Corvette market in one place, which has never been done before,” said Martin. “Barrett-Jackson is the perfect setting for this seminar, as they have so many collectible Corvettes for sale. Everyone will be waiting for the experts to reveal their own personal Buy – Sell – Hold picks at the end of the seminar.”
