1969 Plymouth Road Runner Hardtop to be sold by Mecum Auction

The October Mecum Auction in St. Charles, Illinois will see a special order, limited production, 1969 Road Runner cross the block. The Road Runner was Plymouth’s answer to the problem of increasing size and weight of muscle cars in the late ‘60s and early ‘70s. This car, driven by the same owner for almost four decades, is virtually a racecar, being a competition-ready lightweight special. The car was recently purchased after staying at home for almost it’s entire life and the new owner is offering it in pristine condition.

This Road Runner features a 390HP 440 CI engine with the original M code automatic transmission. Creature comforts were left off the factory option list as these cars were made to go! The restoration work is outstanding and over 1,000 hours are documented in a museum quality rotisserie project. The original sheet metal was refinished in the original and correct High Impact R4 Red and the white interior, while spartan, is back to its original peak condition. The car was recently awarded Editor’s Choice and Best of Show in the All Mopars at Moroso event by Andy Bolig of Mopar Muscle Magazine.

This 1969 Road Runner is very special, one of only 227 made in 1969. It is a rare one-owner 440 Six-Pack, features a lift-off hood, manufactured without undercoating, wheel caps, trim, heater or radio. It has its original sheet metal, number matching drivetrain, and retains its original broadcast sheet, fender tag, and title. This is a beautifully restored example of an original very special car. It promises to be a showstopper. For more details on this car, visit the Mecum website (www.mecum.com/auctions/lot_detail.cfm?LOT_ID=CH1008-72405)
