1957 Chevrolet Bel Air Convertible to be Offered at Mecum Auction

The Mecum Auction at the Pheasant Run Resort in St. Charles, Illinois on October 3-5 will be the setting when a 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air “Fuelie” convertible is sold. The ’57 Chevrolet Bel Air embodies the best of fifties-era American automotive styling, its form and details symbols of an automotive golden age. The Bel Air convertible was the showcase for Chevrolet’s styling and performance leadership. The Bel Air struck just the right chords with the public, who loved the basic car’s modern design and wide range of appearance, convenience and engine options.

Chevy got it right under the hood as well, with the new 283 cubic inch small block V8 in configurations that ranged up to the 283 horsepower Rochester fuel-injected version that gained immediate fame as the first production engine to generate 1 horsepower per cubic inch.

The 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air convertible on offer is an extremely rare car originally equipped with the 283/283hp Fuel Injected V-8. Finished in Turquoise with two-tone Turquoise and White interior and White top, this car is fresh from an extensive, professional frame-off rotisserie restoration completed in February 2008. Much more than a cosmetic overhaul, the mechanicals were renewed as well. The engine was completely rebuilt using a new correct solid lifter cam, the fuel injection unit completely overhauled, and the 3-speed manual transmission rebuilt using new needle bearings and thrust washers.

This ’57 Fuelie convertible is exemplary in every detail. Color, interior, engine numbers, new whitewall tires and spinner hubcaps are all completely correct. Stainless and chrome trim are either restored or replaced, and tinted glass, power top, deluxe heater, backup lights and more are new and correctly date-coded.

'57 Chevys are widely considered the most well known, desirable collector cars in existence, and it just doesn't get any better than a pristine and exceptionally rare '57 Fuelie convertible. For more details on this car, visit the Mecum website.
