Mecum Adds Antique Tractors to Des Moines Auction
Mecum Auction will offer two rare International Harvester Orchard Antique Tractors up for bid during its Des Moines Auction, July 17-18, 2009, at the Iowa State Fairgrounds.
The Mecum Des Moines Auction, which has been expanded to two days, will take place in the air-conditioned Varied Industries Building at the fairgrounds.
Mecum will offer a 1951 International 0-6 Orchard tractor that has been restored with the original sheet metal. Featuring sheet metal cowlings and streamlined rear fenders, the 0-6 Orchard has a lowered seat, steering wheels and controls all protected by sheet metal. The 0-6 uses a hand-operated over-center clutch and air cleaners.
Also up for bid is a 1951 0S-6 Orchard Standard tractor – one of only 820 made. The OS-6 began production in 1945 as a less expensive alternative to the original 0-6, and came without fenders to save on cost.
The tractors will begin selling at 10 a.m. Saturday. There is still time left to pre-register to bid at the Mecum Auction.
Mecum’s Des Moines Auction is open to the general public, with tickets available at the door for $10. Attendees can be part of a live television audience while the auction broadcasts on Mecum’s popular television series, “Mecum Auto Auction: Muscle Cars & More” on HD Theater – Discovery Communications’ first 24-hour high-definition cable network, offering compelling real-world and motorized content.
