Mecum Announces Rare And Vintage Memorabilia

Mecum Auctions, the largest collector car auction house in the world, has announced a first-rate line up of rare and vintage memorabilia from the ‘golden age’ of the Hollywood western all set to hit the auction block July 26-27. Dozens of pieces dating from the 1920s though the 1960s will be available during the upcoming Mecum Celebrity Items Auction: Celebrating the Legendary History of Hollywood in Santa Monica, CA. Focused on vintage Hollywood, music and pop culture memorabilia, all with amazing celebrity history, the auction will feature a remarkable, wide range of personal items and hundreds of rare artifacts to motorcycles, cars and more from the Golden Years of Hollywood to present day. Select items will be available online for silent auction beginning July 5 at www.mecum.com.

Highlighted items from the western collection include the John Wayne cowboy hat worn in the 1961 film “Comancheros,” a Stetson cowboy hat worn by Jimmy Stewart, and Steve McQueen's lasso used in the movie “Tom Horn.” Additional pieces from ‘The Duke’ include a cast signed hat and the jumpsuit Wayne wore in the 1966 film “The Hellfighters,” a hand-painted commemorative cup by John Wayne from the 1954 film “The Conqueror,” and original promotional posters from his film “The Fighting Kentuckian.”

A legendary pioneer in film stunts and westerns during the 1920s-1970s, Yakima Canutt is arguably one of the most famous and important figures in helping modern motion pictures become what they are today. Canutt has notably served as a stunt double to everyone from John Wayne, Gene Autry, Roy Rogers, and Clark Gable in “Gone with the Wind”, as well as stunt coordinator and second unit director for classics such as “Spartacus” and “Ben-Hur.” The Yakima Canutt collection features his personal saddle, cowboy hat worn throughout the 30s-40s, and his 1920s-era leather chaps.

Additional golden era western items include vintage promotional posters and rare lobby cards from classic such as the 1949 film “Streets of Laredo,” “Trigger, Jr.” starring Roy Rogers, “El Paso,” the 1946 movie “The Virginian,” “Iron Mountain Trail,” and more.

Actor and Golden Boot recipient Michael Dante (“Winterhawk”) will sell a portion of mint-condition wardrobe from various films and TV shows throughout his esteemed career, and will be present at the auction.
