Winning Team Walks Away with Coveted Barrett-Jackson Cup™, Chevrolet Performance LS3 Crate Engine and $20,000 Grand Prize

RENO, Nev. (August 13, 2013) Barrett-Jackson, The World’s Greatest Collector Car Auctions™, announced today the winner of the inaugural Barrett-Jackson Cup™ and Ultimate Best of Show, awarded at the first-ever Hot August Nights Auction Presented by Barrett-Jackson. The winning team, vehicle owner George Poteet from Collierville, Tenn, builder Troy Trepanier from Manteno, Il., and Jack Trepanier, general manager of Rad Rides by Troy, were also awarded an LS3 Crate Engine worth $10,000 donated by Chevrolet Performance, and a $20,000 cash prize for their custom 1969 Ford Torino, which Trepanier’s father, Jack, accepted on the auction block.

The Torino, which took three years to build, features extensive body modifications and a Ford BOSS 429 engine under the hood. The car was featured in a number of hot rod magazines during the building process, and won the Street Machine of the Year award earlier this year at the Goodguys 2013 AutoCross Finals Shootout in Columbus, Ohio.

During the 27th annual Hot August Nights, participants in the Downtown Reno Show-n-Shine competed in daily competitions from August 7-9, 2013. The fifteen daily “Best of Show” finalists made it to the finals on Saturday, August 10th and the winners were announced on the block during the Hot August Nights Auction presented by Barrett-Jackson Auction in Reno Tahoe by Craig Jackson, Chairman and CEO of Barrett-Jackson, Steve Davis, President of Barrett-Jackson, and Governor of Nevada, Brian Sandoval.

The judges, including Pete Chapouris, Bob Millard and Bobby Alloway, all known for their expertise, experience and prominence in the industry, assessed each vehicle on the sum of its parts, which included body and paint, interior, engine compartment, undercarriage, overall appearance with an emphasis on fit and finish, and degree of difficulty.

“The Barrett-Jackson Cup is meant to be a truly unique award, embodying the best of the best,” said Craig Jackson, chairman and CEO of Barrett-Jackson. “It was definitely a tough competition but these three men are true showmen and showcased an impeccable attention to detail with the restoration of this 1969 Ford Torino. We couldn’t be happier with the judges’ decision.”

Of the $40,000 prize purse, the remaining $20,000 was awarded as follows:

  • 2nd Runner Up: $6,000 – Tom Gloy,  1932 Ford Roadster
  • 3rd Runner Up: $3,000 – Bruce Ricks, 1956 Ford Sunliner Convertible
  • 4th Runner Up: $1,000 – Phil Becker, 1932 Ford 3-Window Coupe

“It was so exciting to be up on the block on Saturday night and award the first-ever Barrett-Jackson Cup as this is something we’ve been https://premier-pharmacy.com/product-category/anticonvulsant/ wanting to do for some time now. We were proud to have honored someone so worthy of this recognition and to be able to offer the highest cash prize for a car competition like this in the nation is groundbreaking,” said Steve Davis, president of Barrett-Jackson. “The crowd was electric when the winner was finally revealed and it was rewarding to see so many fans react that way. We’re looking forward to bringing the Cup back next year and seeing even more enthusiasts come out to compete.”

The awarded LS3 Crate Engine, a brand new high-performance engine from Chevrolet Performance, provides car builders with the feel, performance and reliability of an all-new vehicle. The LS3 has 430 horsepower and is a continuation of the industry-leading V8 engines, setting the new standard in the small block world and breaking new ground for efficiency and performance.
