This 550 Spyder is all aluminum with a Porsche silver painted fiberglass skin. All the aluminum work was done by Mr. Greg Bates in California who has restored several of Jerry Seinfeld’s real 550s and RSKs. Mr. Bates, has expert knowledge of the Porsche Spyders and is a master metal fabricator. It took him over two years to fabricate all the aluminum work to make each panel as close to or exactly as the original Spyders. The chassis and body are from Vintage Spyders.
The aluminum parts are … the firewall, floor, rocker panels, door skins, door panel, original style fuel tank, front compartment, rennsport mirror housing, rennsport vented fender doors (they open), rear bonnet support panels, hood skin, removable headrest… Basically, everything is aluminum except the outside painted body, which is fiberglass.
The 2.7 liter, (2755cc) 190hp, T-4 Porsche 914 engine is ported and polished with 44mm Weber IDF carbrurators built by FAT Performance in Southern California. For cooling the torquey little motor, it has a 911 fan shroud with a Mercedes Benz oil cooler. The valve covers are original style Porsche scripted with a GT style jet coated exhaust.
The transmission is a fresh rebuilt Porsche 914 5–speed https://buytramadolbest.com/phentermine.html with a new GT limited slip built by TransWest. The seats are high-grade tan leather with a matching headrest pad attached to a removable aluminum headrest shroud. The center mirror is a convex Raydot and the fender mirror is a aluminum Rennsport mirror with the correct Model-A mirror lens.
The suspension is original 550 style torsion bar frontend with adjustable Koni racing shocks. Holding up the rear wheel are fully adjustable Bilstein coilovers. Wide bolt, quality German disk brakes are fitted on all four corners. This Spyder rides as great as it looks. It’s smooth over little bumps but still firm and flat in the hard corners.
You can remove the aluminum tonneau cover in a few minutes with two small bolts as the original. You can use either the long windscreen, if you have passengers, or a short (driver only) windscreen to give the car a real vintage race car look. It also has an original style hand brake that works great.
It is currently registered in Illinois as a 1955 Spyder special constructed vehicle. It is smog exempt. It has only 1600 gentle break-in miles on it. It’s never been raced or even driven hard. It still looks brand new… well, because it is brand new. I am confident it’s the nicest Porsche 550 Spyder replica in the world. You will not be disappointed.
