The 49 Mercury is powered by the 255 L-Head V8 which produces 110 horsepower and 200 pounds of torque. A column shifted, Borg Warner 3 speed transmission selects gears in conjunction with the Touch-O-Matic overdrive system all recently rebuilt. The overdrive, is operated by a cable to left of the steering wheel and improves efficiency and drops RPMs while increasing the speed range.
