Carroll Shelby’s Personal 1969 Gt500 To Be Sold At 2008 Barrett-Jackson Auction In Scottsdale

Barrett-Jackson to Showcase Shelby’s Car and More Next Week at SEMA

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – October 26, 2007 – Carroll Shelby will sell his 1969 GT500 convertible, which he has owned since it was new, at No Reserve during the 37th Annual Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Event on Jan. 12-20, 2008, in Scottsdale, Ariz. It is the only Ford-based Shelby Mustang that he has owned continually since it rolled off the assembly line. The historic muscle car will be showcased during the SEMA show in Las Vegas from Tuesday, Oct. 30 – Friday, Nov. 2, 2007, in the Barrett-Jackson booth (#20765), located in the “Racing and Performance” area of Central Hall at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

“Barrett-Jackson attracts the most important collector cars because it is the greatest stage in the world to buy and sell these fantastic pieces of history,” said Barrett-Jackson Auction Company Chairman/CEO Craig Jackson. “Last year, we sold the only 427 Shelby Cobra built specifically for Carroll in Scottsdale and now we have the only Shelby Mustang that he’s owned for the past three decades. This is an opportunity to be the second owner of a premier car and purchase it from the man himself on the weekend we celebrate his 85th birthday. This special car will also be a highlight of our SEMA display, which will be more impressive than ever this year.”

One of only 246 Ford Shelby GT500 convertibles built in 1969, Mr. Shelby’s personal 428 c.i.d. Cobra Jet powered car has only 69,725 miles and came originally equipped with automatic transmission, GT equipment group, white interior and top, intermittent wipers, power steering, power brakes, tilt steering, factory A/C, AM-FM stereo radio, tachometer and trip odometer.

The red convertible was recently restored under the direction of Stephen Becker, a world-renowned collector and broker of vintage Shelby Cobras, GT350s and GT500s. Becker engaged well known and respected Shelby restorer Jim Cowles at Shelby Parts & Restoration in Green Bay, Wisc., to complete a Concours rotisserie freshening of the car.

“The only other Shelby that Carroll has owned longer than this GT500 is the first Cobra, CSX2000,” noted Steve Davis, President of the Barrett-Jackson Auction Company. “With its recent restoration by one of the premier shops in the country, this historical GT500 would be a monumental acquisition for any serious collector.”

Another car slated for the Barrett-Jackson auction block in Scottsdale that will be featured at SEMA is the one-off 1963 Corvette “Rondine,” which will be staged in the AutoWeek booth (#20715). The Pininfarina-bodied concept car was designed by Tom Tjaarda and unveiled at the 1963 Paris Auto Show. Barrett-Jackson will also sponsor the Overhaulin’ Studio, where they will display three Scottsdale-bound cars in the silver lot.

“SEMA is a haven for gearheads and the industry’s most influential players, making it the ideal venue to showcase our lineup for Scottsdale,” added Davis. “Barrett-Jackson has taken enormous strides in the past few months to further establish our position as the world’s leading producer of collector car auctions.”

The Only Pininfarina-Bodied 1963 Corvette “Rondine” Concept To Be Sold At Barrett-Jackson Auction

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – October 24, 2007 – The world’s only 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe Speciale “Rondine” (Ron-di-nay) will be sold at No Reserve during the 37th Annual Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Event on Jan. 12-20, 2008, in Scottsdale, Ariz. Penned by design legend Tom Tjaarda while he was at the world-renown Pininfarina design house in Italy, the Corvette “Rondine” was built for the 1963 Paris Auto Show and was preserved at the Pininfarina Museum. Hailed as “The World’s Greatest Collector Car Events™,” the Scottsdale auction will feature 1000 of the world’s finest collector vehicles and lavish lifestyle events. As always, Speed will broadcast live-coverage of all six auction days.

“Over the past few years, several historically significant concept cars have been sold through the Barrett-Jackson Auction Company,” said Craig Jackson, Chairman/CEO of the Barrett-Jackson Auction Company. “This is an extremely rare opportunity to own a car designed to ignite the imaginations of sports car enthusiasts worldwide. Few Corvette concept cars find their way into private hands and the beautiful ‘Rondine’ offers an incredible opportunity to elevate a collection from very nice into the realm of the exceptional.”

Based on the 1963 Corvette C2 Chassis, the “Rondine” features a classic Pininfarina body with strong Italian influence. The front end slopes forward along a smooth curve that ends with a thin, horizontal chrome grille that provides air to the engine. This was an attractive yet practical design element to keep the engine cool. The side panel is accented by a sharp line originating from the grille. The angle runs along the front fender, through the side of the car and ends at the crest of the rear fender, giving the “Rondine” a slender, European look.

The rear end features the celebrated “swallow tail” arrangement, which minimizes the visibility of the car’s tail due to projecting rear fenders. Under the hood of the mesmerizing teal sports car lies a 327ci, 4-speed manual, Fuel Injected V8 that pumps out 360 horsepower. The “Rondine’s” interior features the original white elastic leather surfacing and comfortable wrap-around seats.

“The Corvette ‘Rondine’ is the ultimate marriage of pure American power and bold Italian design,” added Steve Davis, President of the Barrett-Jackson Auction Company. “American Tom Tjaarda, who also designed the Ferrari 330, created a masterpiece at Chevrolet’s behest during his tenure at Pininfarina. Since the Corvette ‘Rondine’ was part of the Pininfarina Museum collection since it’s unveiling, the car is in pristine condition. The important historical significance of this Corvette will make the ‘Rondine’ one of the most anticipated cars available during our Scottsdale event.”

Ironically, the 1963 Ford “Italien” Thunderbird concept will also be sold at No Reserve during the Scottsdale Auction. The “Italien” was designed and built by Ford’s Thunderbird stylists in Detroit. It was showcased in Ford’s 1962-63 “Custom Car Caravan,” numerous Autoramas across the country and in the 1964 New York World Fair’s “Cavalcade of Custom Cars.”

“Forty-five years ago, Ford and Chevrolet were heating up for battle on the showroom floor with concept cars like the ‘Italien’ and ‘Rondine’,” noted Jackson. “With the introduction of several new models from the ‘Detroit 3′, history is repeating itself.”

Pent-up demand for concepts like the “Rondine” makes it a natural for the classic show-car circuit. If the new owner chooses to participate in such events, the awareness and excitement that is sure to follow will continue to elevate the significance of this one-of-a-kind Corvette.

“I am the president of a classic car Concorso which will feature primarily one-off concept cars,” said “Rondine” designer Tom Tjaarda. “I anticipate that an invitation will be issued to the new owner of the ‘Rondine’ to show their car at this prestigious event next September in Rome.”

37th Annual Barrett-Jackson Auction To Feature The World’s Only 1963 Ford Thunderbird “Italien”

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – October 18, 2007 – The 1963 Ford Thunderbird “Italien” concept car will be sold at No Reserve during the 37th Annual Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Event on Jan. 12-20, 2008, in Scottsdale, Ariz. Oozing with European panache from the aerodynamic roof line to the front and rear leather bucket seats, this one-off, Ford-designed concept was an extreme departure from the traditional classics rolling out of Detroit in the early 1960s. Hailed as “The World’s Greatest Collector Car Events™,” the Scottsdale auction will feature 1000 of the world’s finest collector vehicles and lavish lifestyle events. As always, Speed Channel will broadcast live-coverage of all six auction days.

“It’s rare for such a classic concept to be offered at auction,” said Craig Jackson, Chairman/CEO of the Barrett-Jackson Auction Company. “The ‘Italien’ features design cues that were virtually nonexistent in the United States during its time of production. This could be the most sought after and significant Thunderbird to ever cross the block at Barrett-Jackson.”

“The ‘Italien’ was born during an exciting period in automotive history,” added Steve Davis, president of Barrett-Jackson. “In the ’50s and early ’60s, concept cars were showcased across the world in parade-like settings. This rare Thunderbird was a great attraction at many famous shows, and we plan to recreate that same exciting atmosphere in Scottsdale. When it hits the block in January, it will be the first documented public appearance since its showing at the World’s Fair in 1964.”

While most Ford concept cars were destroyed after their world tours, the “Italien” was rescued by actor Dale Robertson of TV’s “Tales of Wells Fargo,” “Wagon Train” and “JJ Starbuck.” Tom Maruska purchased it from noted Ford collector Don Chambers in January 2006, and immediately began its restoration to original specifications.

Barrett-Jackson continually reaffirms its leadership position in the collector car market by elevating consignment standard and serving as the barometer for market trends. Barrett-Jackson recently announced that Portland-based Endeavour Capital purchased a significant minority share in the company, further validating the integrity and growth potential of the world’s leading automotive/lifestyle event.

Fire-Breathing Robosaurus To Light Up Scottsdale At The 37th Annual Barrett-Jackson Auction

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – October 12, 2007 – Robosaurus, the fire-breathing, car-crushing robot known for thrilling crowds across the globe, will be sold at No Reserve during the 37th Annual Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Event on Jan. 12-20, 2008, in Scottsdale, Ariz. The 31-ton mechanical dinosaur was constructed in 1990 and consigned by its original builders. Hailed as “The World’s Greatest Collector Car Events™,” the Scottsdale auction will feature 1000 of the world’s finest collector automobiles and lavish lifestyle events. As always, Speed Channel will broadcast live-coverage of all six auction days.

“This is without a doubt the largest, nastiest, most intimidating piece of machinery that we’ve ever consigned at Barrett-Jackson,” said Steve Davis, President of the Barrett-Jackson Auction Company. “Robosaurus is the first Life Magazine cover ‘star’ that Barrett-Jackson has ever featured – awesome!”

Created by Monster Robots, Inc. of Southern California, Robosaurus is an entertainment legend with numerous TV and movie appearances. Standing 40-feet tall, Robosaurus is operated by a human pilot strapped inside the monster’s cranium. The operator also controls the 20-foot flames that erupt from his nostrils and the foot-long stainless steel teeth that rip into and twist metal with 20,000 pounds of crushing force.

“Barrett-Jackson is entertainment for the entire family,” added Davis. “Attractions like Robosaurus appeal to the kid in us all. Where else can you see a Ferrari Daytona and a fire-breathing monster in the same show and potentially even take them home? This diverse lineup helps us attract thousands of new bidders and enthusiasts to the collector car hobby every year.”
