Barrett-Jackson Announces LS3 Crate Engine From Chevrolet Performance As Additional Prize For 2013 Downtown Reno Show-N-Shine Competition


Winner Will also Take Home Inaugural Barrett-Jackson Cup™ and $20,000 Cash Prize During 27th Annual Hot August Nights

RENO, Nev. (July 22, 2013) Barrett-Jackson, The World’s Greatest Collector Car Auctions™, announced today that Chevrolet Performance has donated an LS3 Crate Engine with 430 horsepower to be awarded to the winner of the inaugural Barrett-Jackson Cup™, taking place August 7-9, 2013. In addition to the LS3 Crate Engine, the winner will also receive the coveted Barrett-Jackson Cup™ and a $20,000 cash prize.

Participants in the Downtown Reno Show-n-Shine will compete daily beginning Wednesday, August 7th through Friday, August 9th. Fifteen daily “Best of Show” finalists will receive a ribbon and a spot to compete in the finals on Saturday, August 10th. The forty-five finalists will be staged in the Downtown Reno Ballroom from the hours of 9am to 4pm where the top five will be selected. Those finalists will then have the opportunity to drive their vehicles for display on the auction block during the inaugural Hot August Nights Auction presented by Barrett-Jackson at 7pm, where the winner of the coveted Barrett-Jackson Cup™ will be announced.

The LS3 Crate Engine, a brand new high-performance engine from Chevrolet Performance, provides car builders with the feel, performance and reliability of an all-new vehicle. The LS3 has 430 horsepower and is a continuation of the industry-leading V8 engines, setting the new standard in the small block world and breaking new ground for efficiency and performance.

Barrett-Jackson and Hot August Nights have also hand-picked a prestigious panel of judges whose backgrounds and reputations are unmatched in the industry, to help select the winner of the inaugural Barrett-Jackson Cup™.

Among the respected judges is Pete Chapouris, legendary hot rodder and builder, one of the Top 100 Most Influential People within the high performance industry and a Hot Rod Magazine Hall of Fame Inductee, who will bring his unrivaled reputation and guidance to the judging mix. A testament to the quality and significance of his work is that of the extraordinary Doane Spencer roadster restored for Bruce Meyer, which went on to win the inaugural Pebble Beach Concours d’ Elegance Hot Rod Classic. Bob Millard, ISCA official for nearly 50 years and General Manager of the Detroit Autorama, will also join the judging panel. Millard began his judging career at the young age of 19 and was the only judge for the first four Super Chevy Sunday shows back in the 70’s. Millard also helps coordinate the illustrious Woodward Dream Cruise. From the time he started to drive, Millard has built hot rods, muscle cars, street machines and drag cars a way of life. Famed car builder Bobby Alloway, who converted his passion for building hot rods from a joyous pastime into a full-time occupation, will also join the judging panel. Alloway has a long list of coveted accolades, including Goodguys’ Street Rod and Street Machine of the Year, the Don Ridler Memorial Award, America’s Most Beautiful Roadster, Rod & Custom Hall of Fame inductee, among many others.

Additionally, Bob Johnson also plays a significant role in helping with planning and logistics for the Barrett-Jackson Cup™ and was chosen due to his reputation and expertise in the automotive industry. Johnson, owner of Oxylance Inc., is a prestigious car showman himself and has landed in the top five for Street Machine of the Year, America’s Most Beautiful Street Rod and Best Pick-up Truck, among others.
